With Council Skies, Noel's been releasing music for nearly a year now when the album was released 2 months ago. He did a seemingly underwhelming tour in the US. Now he's touring Europe but doesn't do any press or anything when we usually get interviews regularly during a tour. The album doesn't seem to be making any waves and didn't reach number 1 in the UK (except on the independant chart) even after 5 (five!!) singles.
This is a weird release cycle. Has he already thrown the towel on this record? It sure seems like it. I feel like it's one of the most underwhelming release cycles he was ever involved in.

My guess is they don't really think it's worth the effort financially when the best you can get out of it at this point is a gold certification and a single hardly making the top 100. Noel can churn out records and sell out decent-sized venues as long as he wants but it makes no sense to put up some massive promo campaign when you probably won't get much better results Liam's latest releases have followed a similar path and he's on a major label The album not going #1 was more of a matter of bad luck than anything, with the sales it had it would've gone #1 easily most other weeks
On top of it, he's also not going through the best of times so I think he'd rather be lowkey, the UK tour is going great and that's what matters
There's probably gonna be a bit more press when he tours Europe, Japan+Korea and he plays arenas in the UK, I guess he'll add some South America and Australia dates too

Noel could've released his album on a different week though and not on the same week as the Foo Fighters then it probably would've got to number one.

He's 55 and off the treadmill. I can't think of many artists in their mid fifties who continue to do the same amount of press or appearances.

Agree the release cycle was weird but he's done a shedload of interviews since Jan, one point there I couldn't keep up with them all, plus a regular podcast with Matt Morgan, not that I listen to that, I just look on here for a summary. Point is he has done media. If you just follow his twitter or instagram chances are you think he's been quiet because his team are not great at promoting all the different things he's done.

Yeah except he decided on the release date in like 1977, so once that was announced he would have had to move it after FF announced their release date. He's 55 and off the treadmill. I can't think of many artists in their mid fifties who continue to do the same amount of press or appearances. Mmm I don't think it's age. Liam's always pretty present and when Tears for Fears released a record last year they did a ton of interviews and special thingies for social media. I was expecting him to pop up more when he got out of the US. I search YouTube to check but there's never anything. But you're right, he was kind of active before the record was released. Maybe it's because he's been releasing music for this record for 109 years that I feel like he's not as present as he usually is. I hate the "mates chatting" type of podcasts so thank God some users here can give us the condensed version of what he talks about because I'm not listing to Matt Morgan's podcasts.

But if he really wanted another number one album he would've done that. Or maybe he's just not bothered about getting to number one anymore.

In hindsight, a long US Tour through obscurity right at album release took a lot of wind out of the hype.
(And I say this as part of the obscurity here in ‘Merica)

Noel's team's marketing strategy is awful and ineffective, in other news, water is wet...

The reaction to his interview on that pedal show was really positive, it’s now had over 1 million views! It shows his potential reach if his management did a better job

How many more albums would he realistically sell compared to the time spent on interviews? He's probably perfectly happy with whatever the album has sold and that he's got an excuse to tour various parts of the world. On top of that he's going through a divorce and probably has different priorities at the moment.

It's absolutely his choice to do it all like this. It isn't like he's been forced into it through being less popular. He could easily have done all major shows here and all the usual promotion but he is clearly happy going down this route.
Having said that i am sure he wouldn't do the USA tour now looking back. Not least because of it clashing with Man City's treble. But from the album cycle perspective it killed it dead for the sake of half empty gigs in a country he is never going to make any new waves in. Made no sense at all.

He’s 55 he still sells a lot of albums compare him to others his age .. just because the album hasn’t set the charts alight it will be selling steadily well as do his singles .. I think he tied in that American tour with release on purpose , he’s past the fanfare , it’s the same old now on interviews , his acoustic album will be done and if you look he’s not booking past this year yet tour wise … He’s also going through a massive break up , he’s looking healthier and he’s put some weight on.. I think that marriage was mentally draining it seems she stopped a lot notice his oasis haircut coming back!! And mark my words money will talk in the next 18 months ….

"not booking past this year yet" - he said on Jools he was hoping to be touring this record into 2024, I'm hoping we get a more sensible "medium sized urban theaters" US run at some point next year. Do 3 weeks of playing your songs for your fans and leave with a better taste in your mouth than this summer.

If you don’t see any dates coming up soon in the new year then you know something is happening and at minute it’s all this year … it seems in recent years his private life has been a massive effect on his character , clearly the issue with Liam, oasis and his image , he’s looking like Noel again .. there were strong rumours about his mrs being into weird shit . The next 2 years are massive and there’s no way he’s gonna turn down reunion offers for long

I have to admit I prefer bigger interviews like the Pedal Show or Gibson's Icons than regular interviews where it always ends up with the same old "When is Oasis getting back together" shit.
But still my main point was that there's an overall lack of "oomph" or excitement that was always there before. Not just from him, but around here too. There was always a great... I'm going to say energy... that would keep us all excited. What's the next single going to be, how crappy the video is going to be, interviews, stories about the recording, etc.
The fact that those who bought the digital version for the documentary still don't have the whole thing and don't know when they'll get the rest also plays into this.
It feels abandoned. It feels like this record has been abandoned.

It's a weird situation because then you look at the gigs and it seems as if there's never been as much excitement since going solo, even HE looks like he's enjoying it But I totally get what you mean. He sounds the most self-aware he's ever been in recent interviews, so I wonder if he just really believes no one gives a shit about anything besides the Oasis reunion so he's just making the records as he likes and that's it, no need to try to sell (not just physically, in a metaphorical way) something that most people just won't give their time to Could also be that, given what he's going through, he just wants it to be as lowkey as possible It's true that it used to be different around here, but the excitement also thrives on what we get fed

Apparentely Oasis is listed as a potential headliner for the line up of 2024. Don't know how realistic they're making their list but it's certainly strange they're putting Oasis there and not Liam or Noel.

It’s true .. oasis are the top of gig lists for agents .. behind the scenes it’s thawing ..the money , demand, curiosity and age will start to creep in and they’ll be curious to see just what they can do.. the only reason oasis split and haven’t got back is quite clear (NG wife) he looks a totally different character on stage like the old Noel .. the divorce maybe interesting reading
