Not sure if this is true, but Liam looks like he is inside the venue in the photos. LIAM GALLAGHER was paid £500,000 to sing at a lavish 50th birthday bash for B&M retail king Bobby Arora. The ex-Oasis rocker, turned solo star, earned the payday for just a 30-minute set at historic Paris opera house the Palais Garnier. The white-tie champagne do, where guests were also entertained with ballet and opera, must have made a change for parka-wearing, lager-loving Liam. At one point Liam, whose hits with Oasis included 1995 anthem Roll With It, was joined on stage by birthday boy Bobby, co-owner of discount store chain B&M with brothers Simon and Robin. Guests at the party included Fred Siriex, French maître d’ of Channel 4 show First Dates. A source said: “It was the party to end all parties.

Seems to be the new deal – private patronage gigs for the 1%. Supposedly Bruno Mars rakes in millions with them (yachts gotta have that uptown funk). Hell, even Dylan has done at least one. At least you can say Liam is making plenty of hay while the sun is shiiiiiining.

TBH if you wouldn't do a handful of songs for half a million you're an idiot, I'd be straight there

I applaud the rich dude for having great taste and not getting Ed Sheeran or someone like that.
Wish I could afford it!!!

Would I do it for 500k in my current situation? Immediately. If I had the wealth Liam has? No thanks.
The only thing that would perhaps make a difference to that would be if It was a friend or perhaps playing in a venue like that.

in fact it belongs to a French friend of Debbie and her twin What belongs to a french friend ? The birthday man isn't french and he's clearly the guy who wanted Liam to play. ^^ And french or not, no one owns the place. It's a State owned opera, and an event like this is only possible if somebody payed a very big lot of money to privatize the place. That's the one thing I blame, I hate when people privatize what is public property, but that's not on Liam. ^^ I don't blame Liam at all for doing it, it's a bit weird to play for guys like that when you claim to be a man of the people, working class etc because the party was the exact opposite... But we all contradict ourselves at some point, no big deal. At least he isn't playing for a dictator in Kazakhstan or else like some others ^^ But no need to deny that this is all about money, even if the place is really beautiful, it's just obvious. You don't get payed that much money if you do it for a friend. Or that's a really weird friendship

I've been on both sides of this equation - I've managed bands that have been paid to do private events, and I've handled events where we paid bands to come play (usually corporate conferences). As recording income has gone down, streams of income like this are definitely now a part of an artist's earning capacity. Even bands past their prime command big money - prices basically start at $200,000 and go up from there. If they've had hits, they can get that easily. All the major touring agencies have departments just for gigs like this. In my opinion, go for it.

I also wrote it to you in some Threads but nobody cared. Today, however, I see that the thing interests and that Liam needs permission of some and there are users of this forum to evaluate whether he did well or did it wrong. And there are also those who get angry that Liam played there. Soon the users of this forum will also decide if Liam pisses at the right hours of the day or not. Pathetic discussions.

I understand and would prefer if they didn't do things like this, but to be fair this isn't a "shitty pop artists" behaviour. Dylan, Stones, Neil Young etc... they almost all did this kind of thing. There's not that many artists or band who would refuse that much money, and Oasis never was that kind of band. I suppose that only artists with very strong political engagements, in a radical way I'd say, would refuse these things by principle. Or those who aren't famous enough to be asked to do things like this, but that's easy. ^^ How many big names aren't doing stuff like this, a handful at best.

You got me wrong. I don't blame him at all, don't like these things personnaly, but don't mind and I clearly said it ^^ But as already said, you don't get paid that much for a friendly show. That's business obviously, no shame about it, no crime commited, and he does what he wants. End of story. ^^ If that's pathetic to talk about it, why did you talked about that friend story, it's the same kind of things, you can speak but others can't because they see things differently ? No need to start with the "pathetic" easy line, could send it back to you very easily, it's pointless and useless, and I don't see the point to turn against you. Never said he was wrong and you're clearly over-reacting, my opinion about it is nothing more than my opinion. At no point I pretend to tell him what to do. You completely made that up, no need for that either. I mean, I insisted on the fact that he wasn't the only one doing it, and insisted on the fact that many did much much worse than this. Did you missed that ? If you don't think it's about money. Fine. But you can't force people to think like you and tell us what to say or not, or deciding if we piss at the right hours of the day. (see what I did here ? just joking of course)
