I guess it's different for everyone, but what made me an Oasis fan was Noel's incredible melodic talent and Liam's voice and attitude. All these vague discussions about 'production' from people that I strongly suspect have never been close to a recording studio never stop to amaze me. I know profesional sound engineers far less categorical about how drums sound in a final mix than the guys in this forum That said, if David Holmes is available for producing Noel's next album, I am 150% up for it. Two amazing talents in a studio is always better than one, and I still think WBTM is Noel's best since 2000 I never mentioned production, though? The "sound" of Oasis is more than that - it's Liam's voice, the energy, the arrangement of those early tunes. That's what made me a fan. My point is more that "not-experimental" does not equal "good melody". I think Noel has plenty of great melodies in his traditional HFB style, plenty of great melodies in his "cosmic" style, and plenty of not-great melodies in both. For me, this is just a bit of a mediocre tune. It's alright, but it sounds like a song I've heard from Noel before (and I mean the melody, not the production) and it doesn't have the quality to stand out from that background. I certainly wouldn't compare it to the melodies that made me an Oasis fan. Like I said, though, it's only a demo, so I don't want to burn Noel at the stake for it. Nice to have, glad people enjoy it, but doesn't do much for me. It is a shame how almost every discussion about new Noel output turns into "production stuff vs good old fashioned melodies" at some point, though. It's a tired argument and ends up with people just misrepresenting each other's points. For example - it's perfectly possible to discuss the production of a track without being a professional producer in much the same way as it's okay to discuss the lyrics of a song without being Bob Dylan. Both production and melody matter in music, and for me this doesn't really deliver on either front. But that's alright, I'll just wait for the next tune and see if that grabs me more. It's all love. My comments about production were not intended as a response to your post (the part about reasons for becoming an Oasis fan was the one responding to your post). Of course non professionals will have opinions about the inventiveness or the overall sound of a production, as with any other creative part of music. We are the audience. But I cannot avoid rolling my eyes at some categorical comments in the forum about the most technical aspects, especially about the sound mix

Well I had been in recording studios, recorded demos... but I believe people can criticize sound and production when they haven’t. Just like I can criticize a movie although I never filmed one or acted. The key is to have knowledge and arguments to back up claims. It can be tastes too.
Sure some technical aspects will be missed, but you can definitely spot shit drums, mistakes and stuff even if you’re not a musician.
Plus some sound engineers can be bad at what they do too. I mean, some of them do create some shitty productions. Like in any other profession.
Anyway it’s just demo right ? Noels done better demos, but this one is ok. Can’t say I remember if drums were good or not though.

Agreed you can criticise the technical aspects and spot mistakes, especially when you've listened to lot of music, but I wouldn't really criticise the technical aspect of a demo (and he stressed this enough to make me think he's aware this is far from perfect, or finished) I'm pretty sure this is a drum machine as well

I think it’s fine to express thoughts even if you’re not a music technician or credible critic, especially on a forum for this kinda thing. There are a lot of pretty experienced musicians here, from what I’ve learned, and I’m interested to read their opinions. I’m really enjoying this demo. Musically, I’ll leave the drums comments to others, I’m happy with it but don’t know enough to have a valid opinion. Lyrically there are some real sweet spots (dice... twice...) which did get me where they should. I feel that there are some cliches (...believing ...feeling) but as it is just a demo, and we know Noel switches lyrics for final versions, maybe he just dropped those in to fill gaps for completion reasons so he could contemplate the song as a whole and decide whether to take it further, in which case he could address these. Going forward, I don’t think he’ll have any plans to release this, possibly a b-side as is. He calls it a demo, but I’d have thought a lot of work has been put in to get it this far and this is as far as it can go. He’ll be sitting on better material more deserving of time and financial commitments. It’s ~7 for me and better than some of his actual releases; I guess that’s just down to taste. Really enjoyed your cover Rolo; divine as always and I loved the twinkly lights behind you, really fitting ✨ The song in terms of structure is pretty much done, but I'm not convinced about this It's a very simple demo (rhythm guitar, bass, drum machine, vocals and some recreated horns very low in the mix) Obviously he's not going to turn it into Live Forever, but with better mixing, a proper brass arrangement, some lead giving it a bit more depth and a solo where the instrumental break is (all pretty achievable and not far from Noel's usual habits) it could serve as a very nice album track

Since 99 his demos / finished songs have all very fine lines anyway, he’s using a lot of recorded material during « demo » sessions in finished tracks.
This one feels unfinished, especially the end. Missing overdubs and stuff happening, like a solo and backing vocals. Other instruments too to make it interesting.
The guitars are plug and play too. Basic sound that is used / just tweaked a little in a lot of his « demos »

I loved it on first listen and then I listened to it about 10 times in a row. Yeah it sounds a bit like the first HFB album, but it has that early Oasis lyrics and soul.
Maybe it lacks a strong lead guitar at some points, but it doesn't matter that much.

What is it with Noel trying to capitalize on moments right now? The first was last year when he wrote a Christmas song despite previously stating he despises Christmas and everything to do with it. Then during the first wave of the COVID-19 whilst people were clapping for the NHS he releases an old demo with a chorus of " Don't stop being happy, don't stop your clapping" and releases the Oasis-era version to maximise exposure. And now during the beginning of the vaccination period for COVID-19, whilst everyone is stuck at home for New Year, he released a demo entitled We’re Gonna Get There In the End. Noel would never release demos to unreleased, unfinished songs in the past so why now? Are these timely gifts for people to enjoy during a less happy time in the world? Probably so but the cynical side of me does feel a bit like Noel's manufacture another Don't Look Back In Anger moment ala 2017. Maybe that's unfair and not at all the case but I do get that vibe a bit. I think part of it is the lower than expected quality of the songs that ordinarily I doubt would see release. For me Wandering Star is one of Noel's worst ever and this new one isn't a hell of a lot better (though I do appreciate it is only a demo). Don't Stop... is decent enough but it's been passed over on at least 3 LPs and 3 EPs now so I don't think Noel rates it that highly really. Edit: Just to be clear as it probably doesn't come across in the post above but I do genuinely appreciate these more regular releases by Noel btw. As you all know Wandering Star was part of the EP releases, which on the whole I did enjoyed, just not so much that song. Oh and I'm as game for a demo as anyone. Erm, I don't think Wandering Star was planned as a Christmas song when he wrote it. They just put sleigh bells on it and it ended up sounding Xmasy, so they made it so. I really think you're clutching at straws. Listen to Oasis' back catalouge. Their songs stand the test of time because - even if the lyrics aren't great at times - the melodies and words always seem to be able to capture that emotion. Noel literally said in his post he was noodling about and then when it came, he realised the lyrics were quite suited.

Anyway, found this for anyone who wanted to give it a try: yeah it'll definitely be that version No chance Noel faffs around with playing a barre chord if he can avoid it

Guys... it's just a demo
We've had three great songs this year, in their own right.
A 14/15-year-old Oasis song released and it managed to capture the time - because as I said in that other post, that's what Oasis/NG/LG (to a lesser extent) manage to do with their songs and lyrics. And no, I don't believe it was Noel trying to capitalise on anything. 'Don't Stop...' was pretty much the last Oasis song post-2000 never heard properly. Everything else has since been put out either by Beady Eye or NGHFB.
All You're Dreaming Of - Think it's a great little Xmas song and didn't it go number one? Not one I've listened to over and over but in all honesty I'm not listening to loads of Oasis/Liam/Noel atm. But it's great and Liam's voice sounds top.
And now this. A demo but even if it never gets released it's a nice upbeat tune and there's some classic subtle hints in there (amazed more people haven't picked up on the Champagne Supernova walkdown at the end, or is that just my ear playing tricks??)
Plus Liam down by the River, plus Noel on the podcasts.
2020 was a shit year, start of 2021 is probably gonna be even worse, but at least we're getting stuff out there. Not saying it can't be critiqued etc, but it seems this song was literally written and demo'd in the last month, so we're not doing bad.
Could be set for another album from each of them on the way in the next 12-18 months.

I would love to hear Liam's take on this song but of course that's not going to happen. But Noel should do something else with the song and release a proper finished version of it even if it's only a b.side.

Noel literally said in his post he was noodling about and then when it came, he realised the lyrics were quite suited. Huh? Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding your post (apologies if so) but are you saying I'm "clutching at straws" calling Wandering Star a Christmas song? When I wrote that post I knew that it was going to get some pushback (and correctly so) but I never expected the point about Wandering Star to be contested. And you're not the first person to do so! So let me get this straight... - The songs lyrics are (as stated in your post) "suited" to being a Christmas song. The title striking an obvious reference to the biblical story of the three wise men following the wandering star to Jesus's birth place, an event that we now celebrate as Christmas. - The song has sleigh bells on it making it (as stated in your post) "sound Xmasy". - A deliberate effort has been made to make a Christmas themed music video for the song featuring a renowned actor dressed in a Santa Claus outfit. - And finally (and most importantly) the song was deliberately saved to be released just before Christmas.
Again, apologies if I've misunderstood your post, but how is it "clutching at straws" to call a song that has been deliberately released for Christmas, featuring all this Christmas related stuff, a Christmas song?!Just because the song wasn't initially written to be a Christmas song? Noel made it Christmas song. He deliberately made decisions to make it one.

My equally irrelevant take is this.
It’s not groundbreaking. It’s conventional. But in these strange times maybe something conventional, melodic and familiar...it’s what some of us could do with RIGHT NOW.
And that’s me off.

Production on this is better than on several of the EP songs lol... Not a bad song though definitely would appeal to fans of the first 2 HFB records.
