This is a great question and one I will have to think long about before answering.

The Unplugged show has the orchestra and Stand By Me, Sad Song etc. which are simply sublime. However...the River show is the single best thing since Oasis, so...yep that!!!

Maybe the real question is why neither are available on iTunes?

Liam didn't sound all that great on unplugged. Some rough moments. Thames easily.

Thames 100%. I will buy the shit out of that when/if its released. Best Liam-based gig since the 90's.

I was somewhat impressed by his Unplugged performance, but I was absolutely fucking astonished by Down By The River. Almost couldn’t believe what I was watching and have been dying to see it again since the minute it ended.

Nice to see it’s not even close.

I don't think it's fair to compare the two because they were for different types of settings/promotion.
But Thames does what we as a fanbase probably needed right now, the big ones from DM and then a proper sendoff of WTSMG's 25th that wasn't just Roll With It, Wonderwall, and everything else he's already done in the last few years.

Very good question, the Gig at Down By The River Thames is like a movie in the cinema with high fidelity sound, MTV is somewhat intimate and has the plus of people and orchestras.
If BD and DVD come out of both I buy them without hesitation

Too different to compare for me. The beauty of MTV Unplugged is the electric connection between Liam and the audience, which is so central to what Liam is and has always been about. The river gig is a lush cinematic experience that also floats back into the raw excitement of early Oasis, but it feels almost like a dream.
The river gig has the sonic edge of course.
But together, they're kind of bookends on the strange turn the world took between 2019 and 2021.

"Down The River". Brilliant show, the boat idea was great, the setlist was great. The sound mix, the guitars sounded super powerful. Fade away was perfect, Headshrinker was awesome, liam was on fire !! Another unique moment was "Once".
It Was a perfect night, one of the best of Liam.

If anything, Liam being in an intimate venue with acoustic guitars means he should sound better on Unplugged. He objectively doesn't. MTV Unplugged is a slightly above average 2020 Liam vocal. Down By The River Thames is his best show since the 90's. Not even close, and they don't have to be the same to know that. Also, stop saying 'too different to compare'. That makes no sense. You should objectively analyze how each works on it's own terms and then say which one's better. It's that easy. No need to act like it isn't.

Liam didn't sound all that great on unplugged. Some rough moments. Thames easily. It was only when i listened to just the audio of Unplugged that i realised he actually sounds quite poor on some songs. Something about watching the video and willing him to do well alters my perception of how it sounds strangely. I think the river gig and the radio version/jonathan ross version of Once are his best performances since Oasis.

The Thames for balls out in your face power. MTV was nice to hear his new music but I end up skipping tracks such as NTIFY now. I can't see myself ditching any of the Thames Gig tracks.

I must admit that I don't listen to the MTV Unplugged gig a lot but I do like to go back to it now and again. As for the Down On The Thames gig I'll probably listen and watch it more but not all of the time.

Can’t believe people don’t like the unplugged gig. I fucking loved his vocals there on every tune, apart from maybe his some might say was a bit ropey. Easily the best version of FWIW and the other oasis songs sounded epic.
There’s a place for both gigs in my collection.
And this is still my favourite version of The River
