Now that Joe Biden has chosen Kamala Harris as his running mate, we may as well start our 2020 U.S. Election thread.
This will surely turn out fine.

Just waiting for people to say there’s no difference between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence...

Can't say I'm happy about this. Though, I'm not at all surprised. Two of the worst viable candidates of this cycle have secured the top positions of the country (most likely). Both performed terribly in the debates overall, Kamala did slightly better than the walking zombie, but then sunk herself. But somehow, here they are regardless. Again, not surprising. They're corporatist, pseudo-conservatives posing as liberal democrats, which is reflective of the Democratic party overall. It all needs to burn. True democrats don't have a chance anymore in this country. It's all one party and there's only a divide between conservatives who support social progress and conservatives who don't.
I won't be lowering my standards to choose between two shit sandwiches. Vote shame be damned.

Yea, I'll vote for Biden/Harris just because the Obama years were good and the Trump years have been a nightmare for the U.S. After this, though, it's game on for change. We need it in this country, bad. I was disappointed when Bernie had so much momentum and then Super Tuesday magically turned the race in Biden's favor, especially after candidates like Pete Buttigieg dropped out. Speaking of Pete, I had hope in him, especially when he was talking about an innovative plan he had to reform the Peace Corps and Americorps that would make it into a third option for young Americans (aside from post-secondary education and the military). There's a lot of good that would come from that for people who are into construction, electrician work, and other ventures that aren't satisfied with going to college or being in the military, to where they could grow themselves and grow the country as a whole from it. But it wasn't time, which is sad. I did my part, I voted Bernie in my state's primary after Pete dropped out, but it wasn't enough. The time has got to come soon enough though.

Surely anyone has got to be better than Trump. The sooner he goes the better and if America votes him in again then I'm sorry but they need their heads looking at. It'll be even wrose than ever.

Will be voting at the polls tomorrow. Everyone I know has voted. Young people are turning out in droves which bodes well for Biden. I am not expecting "bedlam" tomorrow - I'm in California and it is very clear where we land. I do expect Trump to just "claim" he won but good luck with that. I don't even think his supporters in the Senate will support that clownery - truthfully, I think even they are tired of him and all his drama.

Due to the time difference, I won't be able to stay up late tonight to follow the news, but I do hope, from the bottom of my heart, America gets anyone than Trump as their President. I have friends in the US and it's the other side of ocean, but We can't just close our eyes to pretend it doesn't effect our lives.

If you don’t see a difference between Trump and Biden, then you’re very lucky not to have experience or feel that difference.
Hopefully this is a rout for Biden tonight.

I am American so I am just gonna say this...............despite what you hear, read or see over the last 20-50 years in America, this country is still extremely racist and sexist behind closed doors. Unfortunately it is so deeply rooted in the fabric of this nation since its creation. I hate saying that but we see it time and time again. Trump is the "Id" that many people bury deep down inside them. He is the avatar for all of them to be racist or sexist or extreme capitalistic.

I'm not doubting that at all, there's very much similarities between there and here in the UK. But I do believe that while it won't be eradicated with a change of leader who is much more palatable, electing somebody like Biden does lessen the legitimacy of such toxic attitudes and behaviour. I was reading a New Yorker article last night about labor workers in the manufacturing industry and one of the black workers stated that colleagues she had known for years, even been friends with, suddenly changed their tune, wearing MAGA hats and stating that Trump 'allowed us to be ourselves', meaning controversial, insensitive and racist statements were acceptable again. This kind of attitude perpetuates a lie now that there are 'two sides to every story' and makes racial killings even less shocking and less controversial, and allows it to become the norm. 'There must be a reason why this lad was killed'. You even see it in the Israel/Palestine debate on the left - an online memorial to Anne Frank will be swamped with 'yeah but what about the memorial to massacred Palestinians'. That's just antisemitism, somehow the mention of innocent Jews unconnected to such issues bizarrely conflates to the atrocities against Palestinians? It allows atrocities to go by without a blink of an eye and it takes the attention away from the heart of the issue at what is being said. The hysteria around Trump four years ago was ridiculous, like he was going to nuke the entire world. That took away from the real insidious reasons why he is dangerous. As we've seen all too often, leaders like Trump is all about the legitimisation of such toxic attitudes and we've got it in the work force in the UK too. I despise the idea that Biden 'is just the same'. Well these folk obviously severely underestimate the level of toxicity a leader like Trump legitimises or either, in reality despite all their soapbox rantings, just don't care about it too much. Once the debate on issues of identity, whether that be social class, race or gender comes back to a mature way of thinking and serious discourse, then we can start moving in the right direction. The President of the US is very much a figurehead for all of this throughout the Western world, and whether or not he brings revolutionary change is beside the point at this stage, as I'm only looking towards the short term. Having such a reactionary leader like Trump means there will never be control of such debate. For that reason, I pray Biden wins tonight.

I won't be staying up to watch the results but please America use your vote wisely and get rid of Donald Trump. He's not good for America or the rest of the world and he is a very dangerous man.

It's kind of funny that while no one can say it's 100% certain Biden will win, there is absolutely no one who thinks Biden won't get the most votes.
"Democracy".
