Something I'd never thought about before; would you rename any Oasis songs, and if so what would your change be?
This could be because you don't like the title it has, you merely think something else would work better, or both.

When I saw this thread title, I thought “please don’t fucking tell me cancel culture got to Oasis.”
That being said, calling Alan White “Whitey” is as racist as it get. Obviously.

I never even thought of links to cancel culture tbh, it's more altering titles slightly. Or using a different phrase from the lyrics as the title. Like with the latest song Don't Stop, i would probably have called it Hold Back The Night, or maybe combined the two. I don't know what I'd rename it, but as much as I love the song I've never been too fond of the title Importance of Being Idle. And while the live album may have influenced it, I may have given Fade Away the title The Dreams We Have As Children

I would rename magic pie to "leave now, the party's over"

Magic Pie to Shit Pie.

I thought someone would bring up Magic Pie haha. I’d have been fine with it as a B-side myself, but I’m not hugely fond of its name.
Don’t know what I’d call it though, without changing any lyrics first.

You cannot change it, as it makes the song, but I am slightly embarassed about the fact that the title of my favorite Oasis song, Morning Glory, can be seen as standing (!) for something, well ...

I'd turn this thread in another direction - I'd like to see more Oasis songs with words in its title that disappear in lyrics. I mean, Be Here Now as a title sounds amazing than Trip Inside. Adding 'gas' to SOTSOG song create a picture of chaos in the crowd. Columbia is absolutely nonsense that I really like, this title makes song bigger. Same with The Importance Of Being Idle. Making songs mysterious by title is even more enjoyable to listen to. p.s. the only Oasis song title that I really dislike is, ironically, The Hindu Times and I'd turn it into... 'Demo Was Better'

'Mirror and the Razorblade', 'Chained to the Mirror' or even just 'What's the Story?' are all great titles. Really like the first two but they don't sound like very Oasis-y titles.
This thread made me realise just how good Oasis are at naming songs cause there are very few (at least from the first few albums) I would want changed.

That last point was partly where i got the idea for the thread; for years my parents have said i shouldve been a music critic as im soooo picky and analytical, and i only thought of a handful that id change.

Hands down. Every single thing about that song is perfect. I adore it.

Probably Bag It Up - mainly because it’s also the title of a Geri Halliwell song. Maybe it should have been called something like Gold & Silver & Sunshine (which would have been a good album title instead of the generic and dull ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ that reads like a slogan on a Tesco’s own brand hippy styled t-shirt).

Noel was pretty good about naming tracks and albums, to be fair.
The grammatical mistake on SOTSOG pisses this perfectionist right off though.

Spot on. Has to be one of the most misquoted Oasis songs, period. In the early days of file sharing like Napster and Limewire it was extremely common for this to be labelled as Right Here Right Now 😂

Do You Wanna Be A Spaceman? Round Our Way Rock And Roll Star etc...

I think any song without a Noel Gallagher bracket should be retitled to something with brackets.
E.g.
(You're my) Wonderwall Don't Look Back In Anger (I Heard Yo Say) (Tonight I'm a) Rock n Roll Star

I don't know about Oasis songs but from Noel's solo catalogue I'd change Dream On to Skip Me

I Can See A Liar → Overdose
"I can see a liar" is a shite lyric, so much so Noel has even owned up to it, so why name the song after it? Overdose is much more punchy and evocative.

Noel probably thought it was too dark of a title for an Oasis song.

Noel probably thought it was too dark of a title for an Oasis song. I agree he probably would and it may create censorship issues too but I think it's a better alternative personally.

I would re-title "Dream On". I hate when artists name songs that are already famous from other bands. I always think "Dream On" by Aerosmith.
