You’re coming across as slightly deranged here. Whatever. I don't think celebs have any valid opinions on society, Noel especially, and I'll keep that opinion. Well you’re narrow minded then. What a ridiculous outlook.

Going by your logic, because you're removed from celebs and celebrity society, you've no valid opinions on them either. After all you haven't a clue what goes on in Noel's head or what he thinks, none of us do.

The AKA What a Life! Music video is very problematic now The Daily Mail has already jumped on it. That video was incredibly shite though - even back in 2011.

how can he claim he was unaware of the incident when he is heard discussing it on the audio? Not a good look, indeed.

That audio clip is awful with the current context but I don't think Morgan knew the severity of what Brand was getting up to. The documentary was called "In Plain Sight" and that was exactly what Brand was doing -- hiding in plain sight with his "comedy" antics about sex. His co-presenter Matt Morgan told the BBC he was "not aware until now of the nature of this encounter"I believe him when he says that. However Noel needs to be very careful as this story unfolds further. There is more to come out I'm sure and it will very easy for them to latch onto "best man at Noel Gallagher's wedding". I hope his team are telling him to stay well out of it.

It seems like a lot of people Brand worked with enabled the behavior. You don't think a rapist can have close friends and them not know about it? Obviously I have no idea about the reality but Morgan has always come across as someone who I would like to think wouldn't enable someone to go around raping women, especially some as young as 16.

There is a difference between getting your nob out and raping a 16 year old girl. I don't think 'getting your knob out' really does justice to the scenario of cornering a woman you dont know in a bathroom on her own and making her fear for her safety while exposing his penis. It makes it sound like a jolly prank, which is what Brand and Morgan are passing it off as in the audio. Let's call it what it it, sexual assault. And Morgan was fine with it at the time, so his claims to have been unaware are rather pitiful.

And Morgan was fine with it at the time, so his claims to have been unaware are rather pitiful. Ok I will spell it out. With the context that we now have, the audio of that show sounds horrific. However I don't believe that Morgan knew at the time the seriousness of what was going on i.e. the account described by the woman in question in the documentary, which is unquestionably sexual assault as you said. This is compounded by the fact that Morgan stopped working and being chums with Brand soon after this period. Again, I have no idea about the reality, I am basing my opinion that I have formed on Morgan from the way he comes across. He could be a serial rapist as well for all I know but I am making an informed opinion based on what I see. And I absolutely do not think that Morgan was "enabling" Brand going round raping jail bait girls. Given all of the above, whichever way you slice it, it is still not a good look, absolutely not. But I think it is entirely possible to be good friends with a rapist and not know about it. I would like to think that Morgan didn't know based on my own opinions.

What Brand did was unquestionably sexual assault. My comments are based on the fact that I don't believe Morgan understood the severity of what was going on, neither did a lot of people, hence why Brand was able to continue on for over a decade doing what he was doing.

I'd love to believe that the tone of that clip suggests Matt was deceived in the same way that I was into thinking that Russell's "antics" were playful and well-received by women who were consenting and enjoyed Russell's mad sexual persona. I could imagine Russell painting the story that way to him at least, making it seem jolly and consensual, hence Matt just chuckling about it and actually mentioning it on-air. I can't imagine he would do that if he knew Russell cornered her and left her devastated? It sounds as if Russell even changed the identity of the woman in question when he told Matt.
Still, of course, even if he did think - as I did - that it was all OTT fun with women who were okay with it, even exaggerated for a conceit on the show, then Matt and I should both have realised how inappropriate it is to get your dick out at any point at work. Amazes me that I didn't notice the signs more seriously all these years. I think that was Brand's weapon: having the charisma to pass it all off as mad schoolboy antics with charmed women, making himself a loveable rogue able to flirt with women in mad ways and have them still be in on the humour of it. I'd like to think Matt was just the most intimate of those he fooled, but it really is hard to say now.
Clearly there was no humour to him at all when he started his attacks, and the fact that he could return so quickly to a light-hearted persona that if I'm being honest I still find quite charming and funny, genuinely gives me chills.

Just put Radio 5 on and heard them discussing Matt Morgan's clip. My first thoughts after all that stuff had come out was the attachment to Matt Morgan and all the digging they'll do to find clips.
I am in no way a fan of Matt Morgan. I've had a couple of exchanges with him where he was actually just a complete bellend.
But it's shitty if we start to go after him because of the alleged actions of Russell Brand.
None of us know what we would do with information on someone so powerful within the industry. It's all well and good assuming we'd all be Mother Theresa but the threat of losing your livelihood and everything that comes with it just for speaking out is a lot easier said than done. It appears to me he did the right thing and just distanced himself from him as an individual. That's probably what I'd have done.
Matt Morgan isn't like others where he can just go off into the sunset with his millions. He's got a patreon and obviously struggled a lot like us all during Covid. Last thing we need is the virtue signalling warriors after anyone they can cancel because of the actions of someone else.

Listening back to the old clips that I've loved for years and if I'm honest, ten minutes in, I find myself creasing laughing at the dynamic between Russell and Matt almost as much as ever. Russell seems just like he did when I found the shows: a genuinely good bloke, who owns and exagerrates his flaws for comedic effect. I think what I'm forced to confront is that people can have large swathes of them which are good - intelligent, eloquent, funny, empathetic, light-hearted, etc - and also still be monsters. Reading the stomach-turning behaviour he showed to women he thought he could dominate, it seems clear that he did have this "glazed-over", psychotic side that emerged in situations where he felt it was safe to show it. In a way, that dual-nature makes him more sickening: it's almost more comforting when, like Savile, the whole soul is corrupt. Like I said, though, I don't think for a moment that Russell wasn't aware of how the lighter side could hide the darker one, make it into a funny story, an on-air joke, just all part of the fun of his ridiculous persona. That's honestly how it always felt to me.
The whole thing reminds me of the Jungian idea of the shadow of man; the mostly hidden side which hides in the obfuscated mind, but which can drive us to monstrous action when it has the power to take over completely. In Jung's haunting words: "The shadow is very much a part of human nature, and only in the night do no shadows exist". I think Russell had a lot of light, but also a deep shadow which fixed innocent women's lives into a night they didn't deserve. Is it okay to still enjoy those old shows knowing that? I don't know. I can't tell you the hours I've spent falling asleep, working, walking, relaxing, just listening to his and Matt's mad banter. I remember being fourteen, downloading their 2014 podcasts together every Wednesday morning before school and loving them. It wouldn't be an exagerration to say that my sense of humour was moulded by their dynamic.
I don't know. The whole thing has left me sickened, and more than a bit confused.

I find the idea that two close friends didn't discuss the incident off air, before and after the broadcast, nonsensical.
Given the attitude and tone shown during the conversation about use of a disabled platform, it would hardly be shocking for Matt Morgan to be comfortable with some lads, lads, lads bollocks 14 years before.
