I get why some collectors don't share. They dropped a lot of fucking money on this stuff. They can do whatever they like. The second they share something they purchased for obscene money, it immediately loses value. However, every once and a while, a white knight emerges................

The value should be in the physical material. Like if there was a one-off 1994 pressing of Definitely Maybe, totally unique, the value would be in that, not the music. I'm not sure what the market prices are now, but back in the day stuff like the Vox Box and the I Am The Walrus 12" promo used to go for the big money, even though there wasn't a note of unique musical material in them. In any case, the joy in music is hearing it, not reading about it.

Simple law of supply-and-demand. Lots of people want to hear it and there's only one. If everyone can hear it, it will matter far less that there is one. The value is reduced (not destroyed but definitely less). That's just how it works, for better or mostly for worse. (And of course the actual value should sit legally with the copyright holders ...) But agree that there's no point in writing about it just to tease people, unless you're trying to whip up interest to sell it ...

I’ve always wondered if the people that buy these ultra rare CDs and tapes get nervous when an anniversary or new edition rolls out of an album with “lost tracks”. If they name a song you have do you try to sell instantly?

I’m sorry if some of you are offended I did not come on to this forum to tease anybody I was simply trying to confirm the existence of the copy of that session, believe me I totally understand how rare it is and that keeping it to myself would seem very selfish, but unfortunately it does have a monetary value I’ve invested heavily in my collection, if I put this out there then that’s gone I just own another copy of a very rare track I don’t own the original recording anymore just a copy , and I’m certainly not trying to whip up interest so I can sell it I’ve been offered a lot of money for it a few times but find myself unable to part with it , I get people’s frustration I really do because if I didn’t own it I would want to hear it.

Ask yourselves honestly would you pay 2k for something and as soon as you share with everyone it’s worth £300 ?

Ask yourselves honestly would you pay 2k for something and as soon as you share with everyone it’s worth £300 ? I agree 100% with you. People who spend vast sums on these ultra rare recordings have the right to keep it and not put it out for mass consumption. However, this act happens many many times over the years on this forum. Someone pops up, humble brags about hearing an unreleased track, at first says they will share it and then at the last second don’t. That kind of teasing is better left unsaid. No reason to get the forum and diehards fired up for something that isn’t going to be listened to by them. Best to keep those thoughts to yourself and pray the recording doesn’t pop up on a future Oasis anthology. Then it goes tits up price wise.

Could always share a little clip but not the whole song
Instant forum-legend status and value of the whole track remains

Honestly owing this stuff is a pain in the arse sometimes, first and foremost I’m a huge Oasis fan or I wouldn’t collect this stuff , it’s not about money because I don’t sell anything in fact I spend to much , I’m honestly not on here to brag or to tease coz that’s just not me my collection is a very personal thing I occasionally post stuff on Twitter but that’s it , and of course it all has a value that has been going up in the past 7 years , it’s a very expensive hobby it boarders on addiction, I’m assuming the main interest is with (I am the walrus) i think the version I have is about 8 or 9 minutes long if I put up a few minutes of it will that be enough ?

I completely understand why collectors sit on unheard material, they invested a lot on it and maybe it would feel like burning your money.
But if I was in that situation I think I probably would feel like that for a year, thinking "I'm the only person in the world that can listen to this unique Oasis track" and then I would NEED to share it with people. It's not as fun if you don't share it and talk about it with others, let it be part of the Oasis fandom legacy.
That's why I respect so much people who kindly shared rare tracks with us in the past or even gave us the chance to purchase it.

There are 2-3 people on this forum doing the lords work with regard to what you speak of. You never know when a gift from the gods will be dropped. Think Noel’s 2010 demos or Let’s All Make Believe demo or even DBTT sessions. Great things do happen around these parts. You just can’t bank on it. I know a couple people on this forum either own or have heard “For One So Young” but rather then post about it with detail, they keep their thoughts to themselves which I prefer.

Well if someone invests time and money on that hunt and manages to track it, buy it... i understand why they want to keep it for themselves. Same as any collector.
Things eventually leak though, so let's wait, Oasis stuff are coming when Noel get back the full rights to the early catalog.
And cheers to people who shared before.

Speaking of this subject, has anyone seen the interview that Kyle Dale of the Oasis Collectors Group did with Paolo Hewitt recently? Also, does anyone remember that tape that was purported to be in the hands of a forum member from the soundcheck at the GMex with unheard songs? Well, it sounds like Kyle may have it in his possession and is trying to give it back to Noel. Kyle talks about it at about 38 minutes into the video. I don't believe that he was the original forum member who brought this up, but the tape seems to have made it into his hands.

Much like this “I Am The Walrus” studio track, it was teased on the forum, guy said he would definitely share it, then kept coming up with excuses why he hadn’t (technology issues) and then finally chickened out. It’s stuff like this I hate. Got something rare that maybe 2-4 people have heard or can hear? Keep it to yourself. Don’t post about it because you are only playing with forum members feelings. Show class.

I don't generally buy the argument that the value of that disc will decrease by 90% if the track is shared. Sure, maybe there are somewhat fewer people interested in purchasing it after the track is out in the wild, but there's still only one physical disc out there, and someone is going to want to pay to own it.
That has always been my experience with Oasis collecting.
But again, I've always been one to share what I find with with the community, no matter what I've spent. I think it's the thing I've enjoyed the most, over the years here.
I've literally spent thousands of dollars over the decades hunting down rare tracks, cataloging what's out there, and helping make what I've found available to others, in the highest quality. Let's not forget that this community was not always a place where people shared things so readily. I'd like to think that myself and a few others have helped foster a willingness to share, that has been the norm in the Oasis community for quite some time, and is not necessarily seen in other fan groups.
I'd hope it could continue, but sadly, that era seems to be coming to an end. I'd just say from personal experience, it feels better to share.

Scott has been one of the most generous Oasis collectors I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was a huge supporter of my old rkid003 blog and has contributed to the forum(s) continually over the years, an absolute gentleman. I’m proud to call him a friend.
