DM: 6 (WTS)MG?: 9 BHN: 7.5 SOTSOG: 6 HC: 4.5 DBTT: 3 (would be a 2 except for TIOBI) DOYS: 9
DGSS: 2 BE: 6
NGHFB: 8 CY: 7 WBTM?: 4
AYW: 7 WM?WN.: 7 (weird one, half of it's up there at 8 or 9 and half's around a 6, so I averaged) COYK: 8
COYK is just a guess; may change with time.

I am so thrilled that Roll It Over has been done live. Finally! And it sounds tremendous. Listening to Down By the River Thames, Liam sounds so good - it’s hard to believe the vocals from FTM were 22 years ago! (And only 5 years after the Roll With It single came out).

As for the album:
Right from the start of the opener “more power”, it felt great. It’s such an unusual opener, kicking off with a children’s choir vocal. But it soon felt right into place as a Rolling Stones move and set the album up as a great mix of Liam’s favoured 1966-69 sound and more modern slick production.
I liked “diamond in the dark” even more. It’s got a sharp, funky feel with forefront bass and a terrific Liam vocal. “Don’t go halfway” followed the vibe nicely from there with a grinding instrumental groove. The title track is okay, sounds like a BE outtake. Not a bad tune but not great either. It sounds like an inferior version of “flick of the finger” but without almost everything great about that song. “Too good for giving up” and “it was not meant to be” both hit home in a very current sense. I really like both.
“Everything’s electric” starts off the second half and is I think the best tune on the album still. That “I don’t hate you but I despise that feeling/there’s nothing left for me here/you won’t know if you don’t go” bit still hits me hard. The following tracks though, “worlds in need” fell flat. I actually quite dislike it. Almost everything that could be poor about “worlds in need” was poor, just sounding like a DGSS castoff. “Moscow rules” was okay. Not one I liked a lot but had at least redeeming features and sounds like it fits on the album.
“I’m free” is stunning and feels like a roundhouse kick to the face that’s part Underworld, part Death in Vegas, but all Liam. The song makes terrific use of his unique vocals and drops in and out of reggae bits that remind me of The Clash. Following that, “better days” rings loud and proud, fitting well as an anthemic penultimate track. “Oh sweet children” is decent, but the two bonus tracks “joker” and “the wave” really ought to have replaced “worlds in need” and “come on you know” because they are well produced, well paced, proper songs that capture best what this album does.
Overall, I’m very happy with the new album. It’s a great bunch of songs, a coherent feel, more adventurous, and an improved follow up from WMWN’s shortcomings. I still can’t figure out how “worlds in need” got on there! At least it sounds better live, as on the BBC Jools Holland performance.
Short version:
Best tracks: Everything’s Electric Diamond in the Dark I’m Free Better days It was not meant to be (yes I love it)
Can’t stand: Words in Need
Everything else is great!

I’ve just heard “Bless You” - where the heck did this one come from?? Should have made the album. They could lose the vocal effect I think but what a tune!

Hahahaha WBTM vetter than CMYK? Hahaha You have the worst taste in music on the planet... haha just keep those silly opinions to yourself. He's right. Dig Out Your Soul having the same score as Be Here Now, on the other hand... I really appreciate all people opinions and it shows how subjetive is any taste/opinion in music. That´s is because i never put my view about any song/album as a fact. I´m open to all kind of music, indeed i praise what Noel is trying in WBTM but, for me, as an album/collection of songs is the worst album by Liam/Noel by faaaar. I haven´t played from start to finish in years. Literally i get boring ten minutes into it. Not any songs i like at all... I, however, really like some songs of the EP´s. And i think BHN is in another level too. It can´t be compared to DOYS. Although, first side of DOYS (until I´m outta time) is a really great collection of songs, up there with its prime

After a few listens, I’d like to share my opinion on COYN. Well maybe not my opinion, more my feelings…
For some reason, many times through the album I find myself feeling that Liam is not very related to what I’m listening, almost as if he was a session musician… Of course, he is singing, but I don’t feel the song belongs to him. Of course, I know about the different writers he has, so it may come from there, I don't want it to be important but it seems I can't help it. But that feeling wasn’t that strong in AYW for example.
I got that same feeling when I watched the first live performance of EE in the MTV awards, and the chorus came in… Like it was out of place to see him singing something like that.
I don’t want to justify myself, I’m not Liam hater or anything, love the man since forever etc, and I’ll be following whatever he’s into for sure, but I don’t enjoy this feeling, and it keeps me from really enjoying the album.
Anyway, good for him that most people here seem to really dig it, I guess I’ll have the get used to it.

I understand if you feel the songs aren’t connected to him but that’s unlikely to change. He simply isn’t or hasn’t been so far prolific enough to produce an albums worth of material. I think of him in the bracket as Elvis and I’ve never seen anyone complain about his attachment to the music

I can't find BLESS YOU and the other exclusive bonus track online anywhere and if they haven't surfaced by now it looks like they never will (it must have been a very limited edition).
What's the cheapest way of buying this and getting a version I can listen to (I don't have a turntable)?

What's the cheapest way of buying this and getting a version I can listen to (I don't have a turntable)? It’s on the CD that comes with the deluxe vinyl set, so you don’t need a record player. Mine showed up today! I can’t play the record either right now, but it’s a nice package anyway.

I feel that Liam is definitely more connected to the songs, even the ones written primarily by the songwriters (with maybe EE being the exception) He’s definitely more connected to this than the songs on WMWN anyway. A lot of the lyrics sound like they would come from him, and even his personality shines through on some of the songs, such as I’m Free.

I don't know, in my head I can figure a bunch of professional writers saying "let's make him do an Artic Monkeys", or "let's make him sing a bit of reggae"... But is Liam really into AM or reggae, or he is just singing what he is told?

And this also seems to have happened with the latest Oasis records.
