Noel always says he will always play the hits because that's what people want to hear. But is there any point if the crowd is singing completely out of time?

I like Noel’s OCCASION alterations. To me, refusing to play the hits is worse. But Noel has indeed been making too many alterations in recent years. Reminds me of playthehitsgetoff (miss youuuuuuuu).

I still can't understand why so many people get annoyed at key changes/new arrangements/etc. I mean, personally I don't go to a gig to listen to a carbon-copy of the album version of a track: I like changes, subtle or evident, it's all part of the live experience. I like when artists perform radically different versions of songs that were released years ago... I enjoy pretty much every song that Noel has re-enacted in recent years (well... bar a couple of ones maybe), and I don't mind key changes in a track or when Liam sings a tune half a step down. The main problem is that these alt versions get stale quickly because they are performed night after night. But that's a different topic...

Noel's version of Supersonic is fucking awful and a fundamental misunderstanding of what's great about the song. It's a bit like that clip of him doing Hindu Times acoustically, it's just stupid. You can't sing utterly meaningless words that way and expect it not to sound ridiculous.

I'd love to get the full clip of the acoustic THT And talking about the crowd singin out of tune. Remember when he used to play Wonderwall in the style of the Ryan Adams cover while the crowd sang the album version? Awkward situation.

He desperately needs to go back to the full bombast of DLBIA, though.
It’s been way too long, mate.

The acoustic version has made it a bit more interesting because of its difference. That being said I feel like a full band version should be reserved for Oasis. The new acoustic version is the High Flying Birds. Same with Supersonic (which I actually like acoustic). It would be ridiculous for Noel to do the regular version of Supersonic without Liam. Acoustic or not, it's a "tchune"! The only song I thought he went too far with was Go Let It Out. The drum loop at that speed sounds stupid and his vocals are not suited for that song. He should have left that one alone and in the past with Oasis. It's a great song but Liam has to sing it, just like Supersonic. But I love the others. And I'm happy Gem's doing a way better solo on Champagne Supernova! Tim's solo was absurd.

Sorry but it's ridiculous to judge any change of key, tempo or whatever without hearing it. There are millions of examples out there, some are good, some are not.

His modified DLBIA is good. The Ryan Adams Wonderwall got a bit boring, but he's ditched that now anyway. He's done his best on Go Let It Out and SCYHO so what can we ask for? He isn't Liam. End of the story. If the song can work better (eg. Supersonic) in a new way then cool.

So he has to alter them to suit his voice and his band - who have the ability to mix things up. It's why I love going to see Noel now. It's a proper experience and you get to watch top musicians at the top of their class.

The only one I really don't like is the changes to the melody in Champagne Supernova. The rest are fine.

Playing a classic song to please the crowd, but then changing the vocal melody to the point where they can't even sing along is just masturbatory. Too many veteran artists do it (a classic: any bloody live version of Counting Crows' "Mr. Jones"). If it's their way of keeping things entertaining for themselves, they're failing at it.

You're kind of implying that what you (and other people of course) like when seeing somebody live is what everybody wants, and that's not the case. Sure a crowd of people singing along can be fun I'm not denying that, but some people like me enjoy to hear something different and to be suprised by a new take on a song. And it's not as if he was doing this for every Oasis songs, crowd still can sing along on many songs, it's mostly on songs that were initially sung by Liam that he really changes the style, but do you really want Noel to try to sing like him ? I wish he'll never do that personally . ^^ You're right to think that he also wants to keep things entertaining too, but I don't see how it could be a bad thing, of course some may like and other may dislike, but it's not failing at all imo. I don't want to see Noel bored while singing a song, I don't see the point, an artist who isn't enjoying what he does is lying to himself and to the audience for me, and if there's one thing that can't be denied it's that Noel is having much more fun on stage these days than before, no matter what we think of the result.

I have no problems with the alternative versions, though they are hit or miss. Supersonic is... just missing everything that made the song great. Go Let It Out was pointless even to try, Champagne Supernova is so-so. But it's not a bad thing Noel's playing around with the songs a bit. I really liked (It's Good) To Be Free and Whatever, for example.

I have no problem with people changing the arrangements of classic tracks, I just don't like how Noel is doing them. Oasis songs need energy and noise, and those are two things are something he's finally re-incorporating into his music, so why he's choosing to make songs like Go Let it Out almost semi-acoustic is baffling. Bring the noise!

His rendition of SCYHO is one of the few Oasis songs he's done that still have some balls on it.

noels slowed down supersonic is boring it takes away the bollox of the song completely yeah but it shows off the melody (which is my favorite oasis melody) more imo. give and take lol most of the time i like it when artists reimagine their work. as long as they do it well....... and i respect artists that won't play songs that don't resonate with them anymore also

Bob Dylan has been at it for years, sometimes its great, sometimes its awful, sometimes its indifferent but I don't have a problem with him doing it or Noel. Its about learning what works and when to move on.

Ashcroft is the biggest offender of overplaying his hits in the same way for 20 years. Early in his solo career he'd do Bitter Sweet purely acoustically to show off there was an actual Melody and beyond a sample. Now, its the same sample playback and full band version. Also, his guitar player does a terrible job at harmonizing with him live, a unique ability only one man from the Midlands is able to do.
Unless it's with the Verve, Ashcroft needs to stop with the classic arrangement and adjust to his current voice and band talent.

Am I the only one who thinks Noel’s version of Go Let it Out is pretty cool? It was honestly the highlight for me when I went to see him live last year.
