Both are that typical single viz-a-viz Roll With It, Go Let It Out, The Hindu Times, etc
But surely we are all TSOTL, because I know I am.
I do like Lyla, but TSOTL is Oasis doing an upbeat rocker right for the first time since the track WTSMG. TSOTL would have also easily made it on that album (WTSMG). Plus solid guitar solo that does its job and a brilliant drum solo that Chris, having not drummed on DOYS proper, perfected live.

The Shock of the Lightning, easily.
It has energy, pace, and even a sense of attitude that was all too rare for the band post-2001. Lyla sounds like what it is, a song resuscitated purely to add more Anthems (TM) to the album.

The Shock of the Lightning. Not a big fan of Lyla.

Lyla’s a forced anthem merely saved by Liam’s vocals. Hear anyone else sing it and it is an awful awful dirge.
Shock of the Lightning is ace and one of their very very best tunes post-Be Here Now. I wish they’d done more of those relentless fast paced punky rockers. In the vein of Headshrinker and Bring It On Down, no small feat.

TSOTL, however I prefer LGs vocals on Lyla (yes I'm serious)
I feel Liams vocal on TSOTL is waaaay too restrained, almost hidden in the mix.

I do love Lyla but I’m going to go with TSoTL. Much more going for it, it’s more original, some of the lyrics are my favourites. Needed more guitar power live though. The keyboards were always too loud in the mix. I think the version they did for Japanese Asahi Tv was the best.

Lyla has probably held up better long term.
At the time i thought TSOTL was alot better and loved the energy of it. On reflection I just wish it had a better chorus.
They both feel like songs Noel would never have put out for his solo albums.

I wish SOTOG had a song in vein of TSOTL. Fucking needed it to appease fans.

TSOTL by far.
Lyla hasn't held up at all like most of DBTT. I never listen to Lyla voluntarily.

The chorus of Lyla is pretty shocking really.
But at the time when you're 16, Oasis are number 1 again so Lyla felt good at the time.
It's of its time.

The chorus of Lyla is pretty shocking really. All the lyrics in TSOL are appalling. But it's still TSOL for me, even though Lyla is a decent tune. I will always love the melody!

Can I shock you: I hated Lyla in the first few listens - as did most on here at the time (I think). Liam’s intonation sounded out of tune. But I quickly grew to bloody love it. Aman’s comment of proper loving it at the time is spot on - living in the acute moment of Summer 2005. Good times.

Lyla is lad rock at its finest. Shock is an A+ summer single.
Shock is Japanese Beer to Lyla's Bud Light.

love both tunes, definitely good choice of first single, better than The Hindu Times. Lyla has best Liam's vocals of two last albums, but TSOTL has so much energy and really close to 90's Oasis. Both were powerful live. For me it's really hard to choose one

TSOTL could be a James Bond theme tune.
