What ? BHN has mastering and mixing problems, but Noel showed with his remix that BHN was badly mixed by taking off tracks, and pushing some other upfront. Apples and Oranges. It's a different and new mix but that doesn't mean the old one was wrong or faulty. Just like 'Let it be' produced by Phil Spector sounds totally different than the Glyn Johns version or 'Let it be ...naked' years later. Was Spector's wall of sound mix problematic? No, it just doesn't sound like McCartney wanted it to. BHNs totally overblown mix fits the albums long tracks and its mood. It's not faulty. What is faulty without a doubt is the horrible mastering. I'm not talking about loudness or anything, FFS. Because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. You just like Noel's 'Re-Think' and therefore judge BHNs production based on it. And you judge 'Once' based on your aversion on the 'totally new and innovative' approach of Liam singing songs he didn't write and not on existing 'production errors'. Over and out.

Can't remember how to embed the image, but I've screenshotted LG reply to someone's comment on an Oasis mania (I know!) post on Insta where someone is slagging off the pool and school lyrics.
Called them Shakespeare lol

The chorus reminds me of Kill For A Dream
Instrumental sounds better with quality headphones on - drumming sounds much better. Still wish they went with a more ambitious instrumental.
The magic of this song is only now growing on me.

In my opinion it's up there, next to the best Oasis songs.
And I stuggle to find another one THAT moving. Maybe better but Once gives me goosebumps and waters my eyes.
Instant classic. Better than Im otta time for me.

Would love to see a beautiful video with imagery of the young Gallagher brothers to pull on the heart strings and give it even more emotional punch.

Twist = Paul rather than Noel? Brothers are plural - ie 2 or more. You’re also on the money! Enough of moi! 🤐 Been fun following your posts lately, thank you!

I’m not even trying to troll, the song is indeed clearly about Oasis (and Noel).

This song would have been much better if it was called: ''(You Only Get to Do It) Once''

Sounds great for the first minute....then come the inevitable drums and the choirs and the strings and the echoey shite.
Part of the reason that the great Gallagher related ballads like (say) Dead in the water or Talk Tonight are just that, is because sometimes less is more, and when the melody is as good as it is here on Once then you don't need the tagged on 'epic' flag waving nonsense. Fucking hell you could even cut the song down another minute and just have it as verse chorus verse chorus > fade and it would be better, not worse for it.
All that said it still gets a 7 from me due to the fantastic melody at it's core.

I have no problem with the pool/school bit. Or the taking ova/yoga. Both songs hes describing the situation as is. I don't think we need Shakespearean terms to describe a situation in a song all the time. If Liam fucking cleans his pool and sends his kids to school, then so be it, that's what he does. It doesn't need to be "Just rinsed thine basin".

It's a good song, definitely his best solo song.
I think it lacks something though. It either needs the full blown up, Champagne Supernova epic treatment, or it needs to be stripped back like Dead in the Water like the post above says. It just seems a bit too middle of the road - it reminds me of Let There Be Love.
Good song though, definitely a 7 or 8 for me.

The second verse is magical. It's a shame they couldn't pull that through the middle 8. It doesn't need that techy protools bullshit. Change out that and the cool pool, it'd be right up there with Outta Time

I like the pool/school bit, even if it's a bit clunky. It captures the mundane bit of the fame and riches you wouldn't think about before you get there.
Side note: My dad retired to a huge house with a pool in Canada years ago because he thought that was what he wanted. As far as I know he never once swam in said pool, he had to maintain it, and the house cost an absolute fortune in heating, maintenance and property taxes. He now lives in a house less than half the size and is looking to come back home to an even smaller place in the UK. That's the sort of thing I think those lines are getting at: There are material things you think you want but in reality they're a pointless pain in the arse.

There's always been a distinct difference between Liam's live and studio vocals. On this new album cycle his studio vocals sound like a more focused and thoughtful version of his live vocals and I love it. I think he sounds amazing on these new tunes, even better than AYW somehow.
I don't wanna turn this into another Liam's voice debate thread but I've always prefered real live Liam, some of the attitude and charisma in his singing gets lost in the neatness and post production of his usual studio vocals. On these tracks you can tell it's really him, it might not be as neat but it's more real and impactful this way.
I know he tried something similar on BE but that was with a softer singing style, this session seems to have captured him singing his way at his absolute best and I think it's great personally.

It's about being nostalgic for simpler times imo.

I really love this song. It met all my expectations. The HQ version cleared my worries. I am also stoked that we're going to get the full demo too. Frankly, I wouldn't mind a few more versions while they're at it.
