Imagine listening to Wonderwall now, 20 years later, and some Bieber-fever interlude is shoe-horned into the middle of it. Gross. Death to Andrew and the 9 other producers for trying to make this “trendy” Bieber? It’s pure Beatles in the best possible way.

The instrumental section is probably my favourite bit. The backing vocals are refreshing, and it captures some classic Bowie/Beatles string sounds while also sounding modern. Exactly this. It sounds more Beatles/Pink Floyd than Bieber.

If anything i would say it sounds Pink Floyd esque.

I really enjoy the "pool/school" verses. It gives the song a personal edge. It's raw and the grandiose production only enhances this. It's seems sincere enough to shine through regardless the production though. I hope we'll get some great acoustic versions in the near future.

How can you people tolerate the massacre that is the interlude? It’s so bad that it ruins the entire beauty of the song!! It's quite odd. No correlation with the rest of the song. It's building up nicely with an "epic" feel and then... They shouldve done something like the SCYHO instrumental break. Also... Does anyone else think that the drums enter at the wrong time for the final chorus?

Confirmed to be written by Andrew Wyatt and Liam. Produced by Wyatt. So no Kurstin involvement with this one.
A few more listens on Spotify and I like it a LOT more than I did initially! The middle section is still stupid though... just exactly what is the drummer doing in part of it?? and it doesn't actually build to the last chorus, it just repeats the same thing 4 times with the Noel voice clip (it sounds like his voice saying 'once' to me) then goes to the chorus out of nowhere.
Still....it's GOOD. That is all. Squeezed into a shorter running time than strictly necessary (Noel would never have let it be anything less than 5 minutes, and we all know that...). Another thing, it sits very well alongside The River and Shockwave.

Whatever! I actually don't even mind that middle part any more. Loving the song. It's just a class anthem. Also, however much of it Liam DID write, it DOES feel 100% him and his message.

MAN I LOVE THIS SONG. So obviously had to give it a go. Not as good as Rolo's inevitable cover I'm sure. But great fun to play! This is great. Nice job. What are the chords? Capo 2nd Verses: E - C#m - G#m - F#m Chorus: A - E - B "but it turns out...": F#m - E - A "you only get to do it once...": E - C#m - E - C#m - B - E Interlude: C#5 - E5 or capo 4th and move every chord down 1 step (I prefer it this way)

I have to say I am really overwhelmed by the fact how the song got me. Beautiful piece. I like the middle part too, that gets alot of slack. If it just was minutes longer. There were songs like start anew which were longer than they needed to be but this one should! It feels too short for me. Otherwise that gives me the urge to listen to it again....so maybe not a bad thing.

For me, the middle part is very neutral. It isn't really offending me in any way, but it also doesn't do much. Very vanilla. Either break out into an epic solo or go the opposite way and get fucky and trippy.

I wish the middle offered more and went on an epic journey then took you back to the amazing chorus to finish. That’s the only negative aspect about the song, the rest is perfection.

Our Kid is a brilliant singer and this song has some of the most honest and authentic vocals in a long time...but...it’s just a strange copy and paste of verses and choruses plus the horrific middle.
I wanted to love this song so much. I wanted it to change my life for the better. Now....I’ll be listening to the original clip from months ago. It’s so pure and true.
What I heard today was an unspeakable destruction of authenticity. When I see Liam next, I will indeed tell him his producers and writers destroyed one of the few beautiful things in music.

I've just realized that it reminds me of Tom Petty's "Learning to fly"; both bittersweet, but beautiful songs.

Hype can be a dangerous thing, sometimes you think you have positive hype and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a goddamn magic show ready to double team your girlfriend...

Still undecided on the instrumental section, if it doesn't grow on me at least we're getting the demo version so can swap the two on a playlist.

No prob with the middle 8. It sounds Beatlesy and adds variety to the song. What i dont like is the ending. It looks like a trend, tu cut out the song before going for one last emotional ending. It is not needed to repeat the same shit 12 times like in The beat goes on. But the beatiful part that happens a little after the 2 minute mark would have been good to end the song in a more emotional note. Sometimes I feel the songs are cut this way to leave you wanting more, a bit like cliffhangers in series. Sometimes it is ok, but this could be an anthem. This one could have had a full on emotional ending.

If anything i would say it sounds Pink Floyd esque. Exactly my thoughts... Kind of what they've done on "Dogs" from 8:01 with word "Stone"... And it goes on and on....

To anyone moaning about the production of the song: How can you possibly listen to 'Definitely Maybe' without bleeding ears?
