Bad bandnames that deserve to be mentioned: Arctic Monkeys Neutral Milk HotelThe Jam The The (might be the worst of all) The War On Drugs Now that is a dreadful name, sounds like a parody of that sort of American indie act. Always thought Manic Street Preachers is a great name and was also indicative of their early sound.

Most great brands have great band names.....the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, THE Clash, Nirvanã, Oasís..., it's kinda like magic.
One great band I think that has a terrible band name is: Tame Impala....not sure what that's about, maybe the story behind it's interesting.....
Thanks.

Agreed: Blind Guardian Alestorm Lagerstein Gloryhammer Morbid Angel
Others I like: Cannibal Corpse Dying Fetus Porcupine Tree Opeth
What were they smoking to have these names: XavlegbmaofffassssitimiwoamndutroabcwapwaeiippohfffX* (aka Gore) Paracoccidioidomicosisproctitissarcomucosis (and yes it is spelt correct) *- shortened version of their real name, no I'm not posting it again, Dying Fetus is tame comapred to that.

Let's be honest, The Beatles is actually a pretty corny pun. Thankfully, time has moved on enough so that most people don't even realise it IS a pun, and their cultural influence is such that until an embarrassingly late age I didn't know that wasn't even how you spelled the insect.

Always seemed creative for me. Especially seeing as it was based on Buddy Holly and the Crickets. Crickets now known as an absence of response. In the world of animal band names, at least it had relevance to their musical style.

I just had to post this.
With that said, I do think it is a good name.

Separating this from the quality of music, I actually think Take That is a good name. It's been ruined by association with Take That, of course, but it could have been good. Ehh...Sounds a bit camp, to me. Not that I have a problem with campiness in music. But bandnames should sound good when you say ‘em out loud. “Take that” sounds like sommat my nerdy schoolmates would say when we were on Xbox Live and they were raking in the killstreaks on CoD.

A little, but I reckon I could imagine some kind of edgy glam band called Take That and it would sound cool. Also the poetry student in me wants to note that it ends on a stop consonant, which is quite rare in band-names.

You may not think about it every time you hear it, but when you do, it is hard to avoid the fact that U2 sounds like a one hit wonder boyband.

They might have been mentioned already but I always felt that the name 'My Bloody Valentine' perfectly sums up how they sound.
Same with Depeche Mode but maybe the name just became a trademark.

Echo & The Bunnymen is great too - a surreal take on all those acts from the 1950/60s such as Buddy Holly & The Crickets, Cliff Richard & The Shadows, etc.
