Very generic Oasis - something Andy Bell was somehow good at writing, for better and for worse.
Reminds me of Stand By Me as far as an Oasis comparison is concerned.
Liam's vocals are a bit sloppy, the production is muddy, and it goes on for far too long. I'm playing it right now and it's exactly 2 minutes too long, like seriously just stop at this point. And then the ridiculous NANANANAs which are not needed.
But if they just tightened the song a bit, it had potential. Surprised how Noel has never once mentioned KTDA. It’s very much a lost song.
To me, Keep the Dream Alive is better than the absolute shite A Bell Will Ring. Just saying.
Let There Be Love is also another missed opportunity from DBTT, but that's a topic for another thread.

It`s a good tune, really liked it at 1st listen, but doesn`t compare to DBTT`s highlights like Turn Up The Sun (my favorite Andy Bell- written song) or Love Like a Bomb.

I'm all for having differing opinions. But saying something like A Bell Will Ring is absolute shite sounds like you are stating it as fact. I think its alot better than Keep The Dream Alive.
And the fact you compared it to Stand By Me. No. Just no. No no no no no no noooooooooooooooooooooo (Steve carell impression)

Keep The Dream Alive sucks. Generic rock backing. Poor Liam vocals. Not sure why that was allowed. It’s amazing Andy went from writing Turn Up The Sun to this turd all on the same album.

Keep The Dream Alive AND A Bell Will Ring suck hard. Just terrible songs from a couple of blokes who had no right to be writing songs, let alone in Oasis.
Two prime examples on one album as to how just utterly useless and downright embarrassing the two sidemen were.

I think he was trying to hard to write in a style he couldn't. I dont doubt he had to do so, but its arrogant for anyone else to think they can write Noel Gallagher songs.

For years I thought this song was Alive. I first downloaded all the Oasis songs via an Android app called easymp3downloader. It had this songs labelled as Alive and I used to love it, especially the part where Noel and Liam sing together.
This song is probably the songs that aged the worst since I first heard it. Went from a top 10 song to a song that I haven't listened to in probably a year.

While promoting HC Noel kept saying how Andy and Gem were trying too hard to write “Oasis anthems”. He noted that as a prime reason why “Thank You For The Good Times” was left off. Noel said it sounded like a “Some Might Say” meets “Let It Bleed” cover song.

The melody is actually pretty good. The chorus and the verses are alright. But the production is fucking dreadful and ruins the tune. A Bell Will Ring is a good song imo.

I don't think it was a missed opportunity, it's not strong enough, but I agree that there's more to squeeze out of that song for sure. Yeah it's a little long, the production is poor and I can't say I like how the drums come in but it's not as bad as people make out. It doesn't really sound like Oasis but it would have made for a good b-side. Better than 'A Bell Will Ring' no doubt.

Andy was stuck in covers mode.

I would have liked to hear them do this one live a few times. It seems the sort of song made for live performances. Stick it in between Mucky Fingers and Champagne supernova.

I like the intro and the vocals, the rest of the song it's just ok I guess.
But I'm surprised about people don't liking ABWR, what's wrong with it? I like it a lot, and the demo is even better. Goodl riff, cool vocals, heavy drums, nice guitar solo...

Goodl riff, cool vocals, heavy drums, nice guitar solo... If it's not Liam or Noel written then it will get much more skepticism overall. I also find 'A Bell Will Ring' to be a quality track. especially compared to 'Keep the Dream Alive'. EDIT: I had to go listen to KTDA because I haven't in ages... why is this song almost 6 minutes in length? Get to the point already. The instrumental is quite lovely though. Still not a great tune though. I completely understand the derision for the track.

Just had a listen through DBTT, first times in ages. Jesus, the production is so bad. The sound is so harsh and on some tracks quite distorted and tinny. Definitely their worst produced album, even worse than HC.

Definitely their worst produced album, even worse than HC. It is such a fascinating time for the band studio wise. They recorded this album like 3-4 times. Once with Death In Vegas, once with Noel running point and a third time with Sardy out in Los Angeles. However, when you look at the meat and potatoes of the album, it doesn't seem like a huge amount was worked on with Sardy. - Turn Up The Sun - Mucky Fingers - Love Like A Bomb - The Meaning of Soul - Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - Part of the Queue - Keep the Dream Alive - A Bell Will Ringand eventually - Let There Be LoveSongs disregarded and maybe worked on - Stop The Clocks - Boy With The Blues - Record MachineLyla and The Importance of Being Idle had nothing to do with these Sardy/LA sessions. Both done at Wheeler end months prior to LA. Noel brought them to the table after record executives thought it was lacking singles to use for promotion and I honestly don't blame them for these worries. Then it was Dave Sardy who pushed Noel to include and re-record Let There Be Love. So when you really look at it, what was this album really gonna end up looking like without the record executives and Sardy getting involved? What I listed above isn't really blowing anyones hair back and even if you include DBTT b-sides, its really like a polished up "turd". The exact phrase Noel used when talking about the Death In Vegas sessions. I've said it for over a decade. Oasis needed an A&R man badly. Some guiding light. You just can't rely on Noel and Noel alone.

And think, this is their best regarded album post 1997. Wow.

Fucking shit. Andy Bell at his absolute worst. Fuck it off in the bin. Next. I stick up for Andy more than most, but I agree with this. One of the songs on DGSS was equally vomitous, I think it had dream in the title as well, can't remember exactly what it's called. I think Andy was a very good bass player for Oasis though.

Do you mean "Kill for a Dream"? Used to think it was Liam-written song for a long time.
