Noel is infamous for hyping many of his songs as the best he's ever written, only to be fairly mediocre once released.
I'm interested in seeing the ratio between these songs, and the reality of their quality. This includes his solo output with NGHFB along with his Oasis material.
It would help to bold the songs that you think lived up to his hype.
I don't feel like going through them all by myself, but I will get it started:
Magic Pie The Importance of Being Idle Lock All the Doors Stop the Clocks Ballad of the Mighty Eye

He did say, it`s one of his best tunes ever written, I think it did a good job as the promoting single, but it`s not even the best song on WBTM for me (let alone his entire career). But it`s his own personal opinion, so I`m ok with it.

Some of the best songs he's ever written are on SOTSOG and BHN, and he pretty much dismisses those albums existence. So to me, when he claims a song is one of his best, its usually because he has to promote something new.

The Masterplan Magic Pie Force of Nature
Stop the Clocks Force of Nature is one of the worst ever Noel penned songs. Absolutely shocking.

I always thought that he thought that it was his new Don't Look Back in Anger/Magic Pie. I might be wrong now I think of it.

In the Lock the Box interviews, he said that writing Go Let It Out was one of the best things he'd ever done.
I would say that statement has aged well over the last decade and a bit. It's a fucking killer track that was shades above anything else written during that time. Liam's vocals were tight, the lyrics are as optimistic as expected from Noel's earlier work, it's easy to sing along to and it really does sound like... Morning Glory meets Magical Mystery Tour (I think).
Slightly biased but, I really do love that song.

I remember he also said One Way Road was in his top 5 ever (can't remember what was the interview).

But I was incredibly dissapointed to find out the Noel stole it entirely. The following is from: genius.com/4916541The chorus lines are adapted from a poem by R.L. Sharpe entitled “Bag of Tools,” which reads as follows: Isn’t it strange how princes and kings, and clowns that caper in sawdust rings, and common people, like you and me, are builders for eternity? Each is given a list of rules; a shapeless mass; a bag of tools. And each must fashion, ere life is flown, A stumbling block, or a Stepping-Stone.
The point of the poem is that each of us are given talents and skills and the sum of each person’s abilities are unique to that person. We are free to use our tools as we please. Some aren’t able to accomplish anything and only build stumbling blocks for themselves, while others are builders of eternity and use their abilities as stepping stones to a bright future.

Google should be blamed for everything. I remember when I was in like 8th grade and all of Noel's thefts were reveled, one after the other. "So he didn't write the Supersonic riff, and he nicked the melody of Shakermaker from a fucking Coca Cola ad, but at least the riff in the Hindu Times is unique and 100% Noel... NO, NOT AGAIN!" How wonderful it is to be older and know that everything is a lie. No need to be upset ever again!

Force of Nature? What the actual fuck is wrong with him? Hadn't heard it in quite a while, didn't remember it being THAT bad, but it sure was. Like deliberately trying to write the worst Rolling Stones song that never was.

The melody is shit and Noel's voice is shit. By the way, the verse melody reminds of one of his solo songs, but can't remember which one.

Noel should have sung FON but with much more gusto, and that's the main problem with HC imo, the lack of energy, everyone sounds tired on that album.

I'm sure I've read that Force Of Nature was originally intended to be the lead single from Heathen Chemistry? They even made a promo cd for Force Of Nature / Songbird in Australia which presumably means they were close to releasing it as a double A-side single over there? www.discogs.com/Oasis-Force-Of-Nature-Songbird/release/6432277
