Noel has gone so far against his roots, that I wouldn't be surprised if he backed Brexit. He wouldn't give a fuck, as he'd just get an Irish passport.

I think he said he'd have voted in, but didn't vote (don't know why, if you have the right to vote I think you should). But he said that now the vote was out, the government should get on with it, get it done and then - as people always do - the public will get on with it, one way or the other. I agree with him there. Whatever his political leanings/views, whether I agree or not (i.e. Noel doesn't like Corbyn, I do), he's right. Corbyn gets stick from some for 'supporting' Brexit, when in truth he's been rather wooly on the whole subject but when really pressed, he did say it's a democratic vote and it should be adhered to one way or the other. People are still obsessing with it. It bores me. It's not the end of the world, there's more to life than worrying what may or may not happen. The government are to blame - both leave and remain campaigns - and they've created a bigger mess than it was in the first place. The EU are also being tits but they hold the power, ultimately.

Well most people who voted for Brexit obviously romanticized the concept of it all without getting into it and realizing what it actually means for them and for others.

Patronising and condescending bollocks like this is the reason people voted out - if you routinely tell people they're thick, expect them to vote against what you want them to vote.

Didn't have a say in the 70's and wasn't born. If they'd known what they know now they wouldn't have gone for it in the first place. We used to have a fucking Empire at one time...

I'm talking about when you had to vote for leave or remain last year or whenever that was. A lot of people (not most, that was poor phrasing) were oh so desperate to leave. What a great idea it was. And now that the consequences of that are getting clearer, they want to turn it around. Which I completely understand. It's just kind of confusing to look at from outside the UK. Not meant to be condescending or patronising at all. Geez.

You speak as if having an empire meant utopia for the people of Britain. But reading up on the history of British imperialism, it was squalor and deprivation for most people. How can anyone be ever proud of a country’s political class that treats its own citizens like that, let alone those from other countries? I’m not one of these anti-Western, anti-Britain people. I think there’s so much to be proud of from this country, particularly in terms of culture. But all that is in spite of the self serving elite class who have constantly manipulated and exploited every class below them in this country. Brexit is yet another example of that, prying on the vulnerabilities of frustrated and insecure people who feel hopeless. Of course, the pro-EU lot are no better (your status quo politicians of the last 30 years), as there is an equal lack of understanding and empathy for those disenfranchised and neglected people. They want to stay in the EU for their own plush material needs, not for the sake of a genuine altruistic motive to rebuild poor communities. But if you feel your needs are being met by the likes of Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage, then you are in for a shock when you find them out to be nothing but self serving power seeking wankers who will do anything to gain status an influence. Like fuck do they give a damn about a lot of the people who voted for Brexit. I’m very pro-EU, but I don’t think it’s the answer to deprived communities woes, although I think it is just one tool that can be a useful tool in providing a foundation to get communities back in their feet. For definite though, nothing is going to help by pulling us out of the EU. We live in an age of ‘identity politics’ which certainly to the middle class is the defining characteristic of political debate today, which is driven by the BBC, The Guardian, etc. All this doesn’t matter to many people who voted Brexit. Not to say these aren’t important issues, but Brexit proves that the class system still overrides all of this and until barriers that inhibit understanding between the working class, middle class and upper class are broken, then nothing will change.

This ^^ x 100!!! A person, matt in this case, makes the effort to write an eloquent, relevant and well-informed response and then the person who basically initiated that response by posting random stuff such as "I voted Brexit" and "We used to have an Empire" has literally nothing to say about it other than "I dunno brah".... @flatulating Hallelujah If you don't have anything to say, why comment at all?! Yeah yeh yeh, it's a forum and we can all post whatever we want..... but, other than for trolling or provocation's sake.... WHY? Thanks!

Noel survives Brexit with his millions whilst the "ordinary" people lose their jobs and suffer through decreased public spending, a carved up NHS and austerity on steroids. That's even before a hard border on the Island of Ireland returns. It's a dick, ignorant view.

No, I don't think anyone voted Leave to "own the libs". However, large chunks of the country have been ignored and left to rot for decades and people raising legitimate concerns were dismissed as thick and uneducated. In the run up to the referendum, the main argument from Cameron and Remain was that things would stay as they were but could get worse if we left, but these people had been ignored and patronised for generations and had nothing anyway so for them it was a risk worth taking. Obviously it was an old post you were replying to, but my point was that a lot of remain voters (even more so now 3 years on) are all too quick to dismiss leave voters as thick, racist idiots rather than taking time to understand why they voted leave and meet in the middle to address their concerns, thinking if they just stamp their feet and talk down to people as if they're simpletons they'll change their mind. But its just creating an even bigger divide. I say this as someone who would prefer to remain by the way. And for the record, I think Noel is absolutely spot on in his latest interview.
