Alright. exposed again for being old as dirt. mkoasis invited explanation. Blame him Jackson 5 - Greatest hits. I was seven, this record was huge. Great beats and vocals, fuzzy bass. The singer was my fucking age. This was RnR to me. The Beatles - Red and Blue. Someone told me there was a better band. They were right. Concert For Bangladesh. 3 bucks from a much older stoner that wanted to buy weed. Learned of Dylan, Clapton and Leon Russell. Woodstock. Traded something, can't remember what. Jimi, The Who, CSNY, Airplane, Alvin Lee. Give me an F... Parents horrified, mind blown. Best of Clapton. Long out of print early seventies record. Was gonna be EC. I still suck at scales. The Who - Live at Leeds. Never heard such an amazing, melodic, glorious racket. Hendrix - Electric Ladyland. A friends older sister gave me this. Said be careful, this is the record people steal at parties. Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed. First Stones record, nuff said. Sex Pistols - Wait there is this other rad stuff? This one opened lots of doors, and didn't require lots of scales. Kicked out of my mates house by his dad for bringing this over, and his older brothers were Deadheads. WTF. I knew I was onto something. Oasis - Morning Glory. By the 90's I was bored with the older stuff. Everyone else grunging. I wasn't having it. Switched the station and found (at the time) alternative. I said ah... much better. So began what some of my friends believe to be an unhealthy obsession.

Nirvana - Nevermind:Before Nevermind I wasn't listening to albums because I thought there are always some weaker songs in them. The album made me change my mind, used to be my favourite band. Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory?: Changed my life. One listen and I was hooked! Couldn't believe how good the album was. It was summer too so that was nice. Oasis - Definitely Maybe:WTSMG was of course a rock album but this fuckin surprised me. At the same time I started reading about Gallaghers, their clothes, attitude and football supporting and I quickly realised this is MY band The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses:I'm not from UK so listening to this album and other Manchester music got me more deeply interested in British culture. The album is fucking magical and I realised I want more The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead:No explanation needed. The Verve - A Storm In Heaven:Probably my first introduction to shoegaze. I already liked The Verve but I guess I didn't quite realise what kind of band they really were. Happy Mondays - Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches:Got me into dance music! Massive Attack - Blue Lines:Trip-hop! Found a new genre I like a lot. The Streets - Original Pirate Material:It's not that I didn't like hip hop before but I fucking love this album and it just keeps getting better. Now I like listening to hip hop again. The Beatles - Revolver:Amazing stuff, got me into the Beatles.

Robbie Williams - RudeboxPretty certain it shaped my music taste somehow, just it never did it consciously. Still enjoy this one now. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Noel Gallagher's High Flying BirdsI was trying to find new music that I liked and assumed the charts were good. AKA... What a Life was the first song I heard that I liked, and so NGHFB was the first album that I bought that didn't feature Robbie Williams. Oasis - Falling Down EPTechnically not an album, but the Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble mix (and the Prodigy mix to a lesser extent) was my starting point for electronic, experimental and psychedelic music. Acid Mothers Temple and the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. - New Geocentric World of Acid Mothers TempleAlbum explains itself Tame Impala - LonerismPrevented me from getting my head too far up my own arse with experimental stuff and got me back to enjoying more direct pop/rock music equally Primal Scream - Vanishing PointPrimal Scream's discography is like a sampler for a bunch of different genres, but yeah, Vanishing Point I think was the one that opened the most doors personally. High Contrast - Tough Guys Don't DanceBefore hearing this, for some reason I had zero tolerance for DnB -- then I heard Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Clark - Totems FlareMay not have changed my tastes as much as the rest here, but definitely brought a number of them to an extremely sharp focus. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward SpiralThis and The Fragile... and a fair amount of NIN's discography tbh. Spent a while where most of what I listened to was Nine Inch Nails, just because there aren't many albums that I know of that have both the intensity and variety of these ones. Nmesh - PharmaAfter first time listening to it, this one compressed my attention span for music down to seconds with the amount of stuff that's scattered around it, which probably isn't a great thing...

-Rolling Stones - no particular album, just a mixtape of 60ies songs a friend's father made for me after I had seen a documentary and had become hooked
-Pearl Jam - Ten -Nirvana - In utero -Hole - Live through this (Courtney Love still being my favorite female singer) -Life of agony - Ugly -REM - Green -Pogues - If I should fall from grace with god I think it was each of these albums (not necessarily each the favorite, but the first ones) that had made me fall in love with what would be my few and deeply beloved favorite bands for a long, long time and kind of built the foundation of the kind of music I love the most, guitary, indie, grunge, rock, ... I had given up finding new favorites, until ...
-Kasabian - Empire --- that one was remarkable, as that was in no way "my music", but I loved it, kind of opened me to a bit of electronic music.
-Joy Division - Unknown pleasures --- that one opened that beautiful new music world of what I call Manchester and Friends for me, where were you all my life you beautiful bands and why did I not find you sooner???!!!
-Oasis - Don't believe the truth --- sealed the deal with them for me and, closing the circle, in the end was what brought me here.

I loved reading everyone's lists and stories. Keep 'em coming!
I think Nevermind the Bollocks and Nirvana's Never mind made these lists more than any other album.

These three albums have had a lasting impact on my current musical taste.
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
First major introduction to psychedelic rock/pop. John Leckie helps bring to life the band's tunes into shimmering pieces of summer bliss. Heard this one way too many times.
A Storm In Heaven - Verve
Not The Verve, just Verve, as they were previously named. Also produced by Leckie, the one two punch of Nick's astral guitar work and Richard's cosmic soul voice is the greatest thing to happen to music (and one of its greatest tragedies as they can't get along to give us more greatness). My favorite album of all time.
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Distant and otherworldly like the other two LPs. Kevin Shields gives us a glimpse into his idea of a world where the atmosphere is layers of guitars. Violent storms of sound unlike anything you've ever heard. Angelic and wistful vocals from Belinda and everything in between.

Oasis-Deiniftely Maybe This album changed everything. Before this I didn’t really understand albums and always thought that album tracks would always be inferior to singles. Hearing Rock n Roll Star, Columbia, Slide Away lead me to explore music properly and introduced me to the whole new world.
Nine Inch Nails- The Fragile Introduced me to so many new genres; Industrial, Ambient, Metal. Perfectly crafted album which is so varied yet coherent
Pink Floyd- The Wall This is more than an album it’s an experience. Before I heard this record, music only about the tunes, after this I realised it could describe a narrative better than any film or book. The great thing about this album is the music is their too. Hey You, Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell etc. Still my favourite album ever
Slipknot- Vol 3 Slipknot?! Don’t they just scream and isn’t heavy metal devoid of any thought or melody? Erm no. This album contains some of the greatest heavy metal songs; Vermillion pt1, Before I Forget, The Blister Exists and incorporates them into an album with acoustic beauty and Electronica, I lost a lot of preconceptions after listening to this album
Death in Vegas- The Contino Sessions Is it rock? Electronica? Who knows but it’s awesome. Every song sounds different and is a really unique listen
Ryan Adams- Gold My first venture into anything resembling Country and it certainly wasn’t my last. Truly sublime songwriting
Manic Street Preachers- Holy Bible Who said a mainstream rock record can’t deal with more political and social issues than most MP’s whilst still containing outstanding songs? Bleak and majestic at the same time
U2-Achtung Baby Anybody who’s heard the album doesn’t need telling why and people who haven’t, should!
Funeral for a Friend- Casually Dressed and Deep inCoversation Emo Boys with big fringes!? Yes maybe but all 12 songs on this record are perfect. You don’t need to like Metal/Post Hardcore to appreciate Red is the New Black or Escape Artists Never Die
The Cooper Temple Clause- See This Through and Leave I can’t tell you how important this record was to me 15 years ago. They felt like the first band of my generation I truly loved. Like love child of Oasis, Metallica and Prodigy with Post Rock elements. Perfect
Godspeed You! Black Emperor- Lift You Skinny Wrists... Speaking of Post-Rock, this is the yard stick of which all other albums of the genre should be measured.
I do have albums I prefer to some of these but these are what I believe shaped my musical taste, either directly or by pointing me in the right directions
