In Rainbows is my favorite Radiohead album. It's perfectly constructed with a striking balance between technical perfection and organic sonic blemishes, forging a sound so intricate that sounds intoxicating and invigorating. Reckoner is such a hauntingly beautiful song. 'In Rainbows – From the Basement' is one of my favorite live performances of all-time. I’m sure I’ve read this review already somewhere. 🧐

In Rainbows is a truly great album. One thing I love about Radiohead is that the songs I don't really enjoy the most pop up around my head months later and I end up loving them. Happened with Nude,Ful Stop,Reckoner,Climbing Up The Walls,Glass Eyes...even Videotape (Bonaroo of course).

For me. In Rainbows is their 2nd True masterpiece after OK Computer. The production is stumning throughout and is a true Gem.
I was one of the guys who was completled baffled bu Kid A upon its release and whilst Everything in its right place and Motion picture soundtrack are up there with my favorite stuff it still doesnt cut the mustard for me.
To this day i dont know why they didnt jusy release Kid A / Amnesiac as one LP anyway heres my order
1. In Rainbows 2. Ok Computer 3. A Moon Shaped Pool 4. The Bends 5. Hail to the Thief 6. The King of Limbs 7. Kid A 8. Amnesiac 9. Pablo Honey
Also my preferred Kid A/ Amnesiac tracklist as a single LP.
1. Everything in its right place 2. Kid A 3. The National Anthem 4. How to disappear Completley 5. Pyramid Song 6. Optimistic 7. Idioteque 8. Fog 9. I Might be wrong 10. Motion Picture Soundtrack

Relistened to In Rainbows about a month ago, and it was nice to finally "get" Nude and Jigsaw Falling Into Place, which are both brilliant songs. Aside from those two I already loved Weird Fishes, but the rest is "just" good, or in some cases forgettable. Anyway, it all sounds great, and I think the production is what made me give it another chance in the first place.

Would still love to hear a studio version of that old creepy-organ version they played live in the nineties, though. Guess I'll have to check that one out!

Just listened In Rainbows disk 2. Some quality songs there. Jesus,I could say I liked all of them. Except for 4 minute warning. MK1 is set to come righy after Videotape I guess, Down Is The New Up sounds great. But maybe it gets a bit repetitive. I can see why is a deluxe track, but tbf could be in the record and it wouldn't bother me at all. Go Slowly must be one of my favourite Radiohead tracks. What a beautiful song. Even though I end up liking Nude,I could easily switch places for both songs. Really beautiful and dark song that sounds positive in the ending with Thom repeating 'There's a way out'. MK2 I guess that its an excerpt of Nude. At least sounds like the beggining for me. And it's in the same place where Nude comes in In Rainbows. Last Flowers is the most hard hitting song of these tracks. Probably needs a couple more listens because I didn't feel excited about it. Up On The Ladder is what I was expecting to find when I first listened to In Rainbows. Colourful and space vibey song. I could see this one appear in Stranger Things lol. Love the ending. Bangers and Smash is another fantastic tune. For me is even better than Bodysnatchers (which is just the same riff going over and over the song). Loved that one. And then comes 4 Minute Warning. Kinda Beatles vibe that contrast the lyrics of the song too much for me. The song is supposed to talk about what your mind is thinking when you know you're going to die (At least that's what Genius says) and the rest of the song doesn't appeal to the lyrics. Maybe is intentional and its supposed to be a bitter sweet song. But I don't get it at all. Couple more listens and maybe I can understand the purpouse of this song. But yeah, overall I loved it. Specially Go Slowly and Bangers.

They did last year on the OKNOTOK mix tape. Wasn't that only physical? That entire mix tape was digitized and cutup the moment the first copies landed in fans hands.

GOAT in my opinion. Oasis will always be my favourite but I think in 100 years time, provided we havent nuked ourselves into oblivion Radiohead will be seen as the pinnacle of music in our time, inc any band before. Those who have seen them live will know what an otherworldly experience it is as well. It's almost sickening how fantastic they are.
The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin,Jam, Smiths, Roses etc all together haven't got as many knockout tunes all put together as Radiohead have.
EDIT: Idiotique is the best song ever. After 100+ listens it still blows my mind

Who has seen them live? I’ve seen them twice - once in Bilbao and once in Sydney and as masterful as their studio work is, the live experience is on another level.

I’ve seen them 10-11 times dating back to 1997. Terrific band who never tires and always and I mean always keeps it interesting. Same 5 guys since the start. No drama. Refreshing.

Thom was on top form and it was a well-balanced set with gems like Airbag, Weird Fishes, Bloom, Separator and The Daily Mail (this was right after the general election so Thom engaged in some cynical patter before playing it lol). The last songs were a knockout hit parade, Paranoid Android into Street Spirit followed by the final encore of Fake Plastic Trees and Karma Police. Sound was a mess at times due to the venue (Ful Stop hit the ears like a freight train) and they closed the main set with Bodysnatchers which I found somewhat odd but all in all the band really delivered that night, one of my best concerts ever.

soundcloud.com/snavaneeth78/big-ideas?in=snavaneeth78/sets/ok-computer-oknotok-1997-2017-cassetteIncase anybody was looking for that old version of Nude It's funny. I remember being a snot nosed 14 year old Oasis fanboy on OasisInet waging war with posters who championed In Rainbows as the best release at the time. I thought it was depressing drivel and DOYS was obviously the best new album at the time. Hilarious to think back on that now. Last Flowers on it's own is better than any post 2000 Oasis release

Radiohead and Coldplay smashed them with their albums that year.

In Rainbows is good but it’s overrated.
It’s largely a triumph of style over substance, for me.

I didn't know there's a second disc to In Rainbows, is it worth me checking out?
Thanks.

One song that is underrated is All I Need. Great tune.
Over two years later though, I still think A Moon Shaped Pool is the best of their later albums - for me that is undoubtedly their best since Kid A. Not sure if that's controversial but I'm speaking from the perspective of a more casual fan. It doesn't have a song the quality of Reckoner but each song is at least an 8/9 out of 10. In fact, it's probably my third favourite Radiohead album.
To these ears, it's their most beautiful record.

Everything analog. Everything to tape. He forced the band to make choices and thus the songs benefitted. Great space and separation of tracks throughout.

For what it's worth, devoted Radiohead fans often consider All I Need to be their best-ever track. I completely agree on A Moon-Shaped Pool, absolutely stunning album - to still be coming out with material like that twenty years after you broke out in quality with no bad albums in between is almost unrivalled.

I know, most modern productions are pretty awful and brick walled to buggery but everything about this record is lush. You usually have to go around bands that don't seek to be played on the radio to hear as sophisticated production on albums these days. It's also Jonny Greenwood's presence that makes it - although not in the traditional rock star guitarist capacity, but as a classical composer and the influences of Gainsbourg and Bernard Hermann giving it the cinematic feel. I much prefer Radiohead in their more organic nature as opposed to the band that runs amok with electronics ala King of Limbs (ironic considering Kid A is probably my favourite album but the Apex Twin influences - who I love - are obvious). For me, when they go off the deep end experimentally with electronics it all gets a bit too cold and dystopian - I know that's the intention, but as a personal preference, I do like a small dose of warm sentimentality to keep things in touch with humanity!
