It's funny, I was also 14 and remember buying it. It was the album that got me back into Oasis. I'd loved them as a kid when WTSMG was out and remember buying D'You Know What I Mean and Be Here Now and getting swept along with the hype (even as a 9 year old) but lost interest after that. I loved Heathen Chemistry at the time which subsequently inspired me to listen to Definitely Maybe on repeat.

Summer of 2002 it was. 14 years old. This forum wasn’t even existence yet, but my own hype was building. On release day, in the US I rushed to one of the renowned electronic stores of that time. Popped that beauty in and, well, beauty it wasn’t. Instant karma? Fuck that. Instant disappointment. The Hindu Times was getting a lot of airplay on US radio stations, but always thought Liam sounded rather sloppy. As far as the rest? Little by Little was a smashing song, as was SCYHO. But dispite the pleas, my crying has yet to stop on what was the worst Oasis album of all time. Interesting. I also rushed to buy it in '02 (aged 14!) - I'd lost track of the band after BHN (I moved from Britain to the States in '98), but in '02 I saw the Barrowlands gig on TV, on a cable channel called "Trio". That gig reminded me of everything I'd loved about the band, and I immediately sought out their newest release (at Target, if memory serves). The forum not existing at that point was, in some ways, an advantage, as my opinion of that record was formed without a bunch of other voices - I understand the things people don't like about it, but at the time, I absolutely loved it. I still think All in the Mind and She is Love come in for too much criticism around here, but music is wonderfully subjective that way. I would still rate it higher overall than SOTSOG or DOYS.

I remember my brother and I being very excited and traveling to the city to buy it on the day of release and listening to it on my uncle’s stereo in the car on the way home and on repeat for the day at home.
I remember being happy that they had returned to their more traditional sound. Songbird was immediately the standout track along with the other singles. I remember a lot of people loving Little by Little when that was released as a single and to this day it’s still very popular amongst non die-hards.
As time went on it became apparent that this was their weakest effort, for me at least and the reason is obvious... the filler tracks (apart from Born on a Different Cloud) are well below average.
Noel chickened out and pulled the plug on pushing the bound with their sound after Giants. Looking back now I must admit that they definitely should of tried to progress in that sound.

The children of today will never look back on their record buying memories. Sad, really. "I remember when I bought Ed Sheeran on iTunes......."

I wasn't really into Oasis when HC came out. I remember a mate of mine came round with the CD, I saw the logo upside down and thought it was for a band called Sisbo. Then we decided to start a band called Sisbo, but got made fun of cos it sounded like lesbo. Ain't schoolboy humour great?

Agreed. An album of 1.Teotihuacan 2. The Hindu Times 3. Go Let it Out4. Who Feels Love? 5. Let's All Make Believe 6. Where Did it All Go Wrong? (Demo)7. Gas Panic!8. Stop Crying Your Heart Out 9. Born on a Different Cloud 10. Idler's Dream 11. Roll it Over with SOTSOG production and execution would've been something quite good and important for post-BHN Oasis. FIFY. Teotihuacan fits so much better. It has the atmosphere and ambiance needed for SOTSOG. FITB has no place being near anything. Can’t stand it. I’m also not a fan of combining both SOTSOG and HC, as both albums were different projects that served separate purposes. Plus, I never saw a suggested tracklist that made sense. Until now. My one edit aside (Teotihuacan instead of FITB), you absolutely/practically nailed it. I like LBL, mind, but do understand why you dropped it. World71R

I see why you'd want to add Teotihuacan as the opener. Had Noel opted for that, that would've been a forceful way of saying things were gonna be different and would've been a very ballsy move so I like that. I think you could have Little by Little be released as a standalone single of some sort, since it combines the holy trinity's sound with the darker vibes and feel of the HC and SOTSOG, but still sounds unique in the Oasis discography (and is important as well). If not that, then right after SCYHO or Gas Panic! on the hypothetical tracklisting above.

You know, when HC came out, it was quite well received by critics and fans and I really enjoyed it. The album's weaknesses weren't immediately apparent to me at that time. It had some great hit singles, which served to get it some attention. At first, LBL and BOADC were my favourite tracks. Hung in a Bad Place is now my favourite and has been for quite some time.
By 2003 or 04, it became more apparent that it was their least best offering to date. Still, I think HC takes too much of a beating here. It has its faults and is their worst but it's really not a terrible album at all. It's substandard, relatively average, lackluster - but not terrible. And that's also in comparison to the other Oasis albums, not other big releases in 2002 in general.

Aside from the decent singles, it’s an appalling album. The kind of album that would be the personal favourite of a sex offender.

The Turning is better than the whole of HC let alone Bag It Up, Waiting for the Rapture, The Shock of the Lightning and Falling Down

DOYS is a potentially great album that falls apart in the last three or four songs. HC is a patchy at best album from start to finish.
DOYS is comfortably the better album. It has more good songs. The band sounds better, Liam sounds better, the production is better. No contest.
