Ok here are the rules: - You can pick your favourite bands/solo artists. Choose AT LEAST 10 but there is NO MAXIMUM RESTRICTION. - The scoring scale is similar to the one used by mrsifters80 for the Oasis related top 100. #1 - 20 points #2 - 19 points #3 - 18 points #4 - 17 points #5 - 16 points #6 - 15 points #7 - 14 points #8 - 13 points #9 - 12 points #10 - 11 points #the rest - 10 points If you don't rank them in order, all of them get 10 points. Ready ? Go !

1. The Smiths 2. Tom Waits 3. Queens of the Stone Age 4. Neil Young 5. Red Hot Chili Peppers 6-8: Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel 9-10: Strategic votes for Alice in Chains and Frank Zappa, Beatles for example will do perfectly well without a vote from me.
Edit: Other artists worthy of 5 points: The Doors, The Stooges, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Roses, Kent, Stevie Wonder. Would be strange NOT adding The Beatles after all, so they're in. Will probably update as more names pop up in my head.

Lemme list 10 that I know won't make anyone else's lists. For variety's sake, y'know.
1. Disco Inferno 2. St. Vincent 3. Miles Davis 4. Brian Eno 5. Kanye West 6. Talk Talk 7. Four Tet 8. Aphex Twin 9. John Coltrane 10. Massive Attack
Everyone on here ought to listen to Disco Inferno. Ignore the cheesy name and know that I'm referring to one of the most relentlessly innovative bands of the 90's, and ever. Never have I seen anyone so seamlessly weave together samples, found sounds, electronica, and the avant-garde with an intrinsic pop sensibility and all the cynicism and bitter resentment of The Smiths. Over two decades later their definitive statement of five flawless EPs still sounds like the future. And, yet, because they were unfortunate enough to be overshadowed by Britpop bands like Oasis, they never gained even a fraction of commercial success that they should have. I believe someone on here once said that, if The Beatles were around during the 90's, they'd be making tunes like The Chemical Brothers' Setting Sun? Well, I respectfully disagree. They'd be making songs like this:

Found this difficult, mainly because I try avoiding idolising artists. Tracks and albums, that's a different matter. So, went for the criteria that each artist on the list has to have several albums that I think are great, which filtered out some newer artists with only 1 or 2 imo great albums so far (Operators, Nicolas Jaar, Young Fathers, Gonjasufi...), and a pile of others with the occasional great track. In alphabetical order// Acid Mothers Temple (including the different arbitrary offshoots they've got; Melting Paraiso U.F.O., Cosmic Inferno, SWR etc....) Amon Tobin Bardo Pond Bonobo The Chemical Brothers Clark DJ Shadow The Flaming Lips Future Sound of London (/Amorphous Androgynous) Ghostpoet Massive Attack Nine Inch Nails Primal Scream Quantic Robbie Williams Tricky Underworld // Lemme list 10 that I know won't make anyone else's lists. For variety's sake, y'know. 10. Massive Attack <cough> Considered putting Four Tet on my list as well, but personally have found a lot of his albums outside of Rounds to be uneven, so couldn't unfortunately...

I should always count on The Escapist and @isness to add musical variety to the forum. By the way most everyone else talks around here I don't know if anyone has ever heard a song without a chorus. And I'd argue that There Is Love in You is at least Rounds's equal, if not its superior. I like to think of it as an inverse Rounds. Where Rounds is lonely and melancholy, There Is Love in You is exuberant and euphoric. Triumphant, even. I'd call it a victory lap if it weren't already a victory itself!

There Is Love In You kinda sounds more like a restrained mature exuberance imo (which is a slight contradiction in terms ), in contrast to a track like Smile Around The Face which has a much freer innocent euphoria to it. So, whilst I can really enjoy There Is Love In You in the right moment, personally it doesn't have as strong an emotional hook or take as much of a journey as Rounds as a whole.

I suppose that this is where we'll have to agree to disagree. Rounds may be the more personal work, but I'll be damned if tracks like Circling aren't some of the most cheerfully gorgeous sounds to ever grace my ears.

So far I'm enjoying the fact that Queens(of the Stone Age) has more votes than Queen. Which is of course the way it should be
