Great thread. Be nice to hear some personal stories and special moments. Bring it on.
Stevie Wonder 12/31/94 Fox Theater, Detroit. After years of hanging with the old school crowd on new years, decided to do something different. Took a date to this show, was one of about 50 white people in the whole theater. Stevie was fucking rockin'. He played Say It Loud, I'm Black And I'm Proud. Everybody stood up, and started joining in. I was baffled for a couple seconds... then gave it my all. A nice lady in the seat next to me, hugged me afterwards and said happy new year baby. A top new year for sure.

I’ll always be grateful I seen Cast and Gomez at V99. Two bands from the ‘90s who almost hit the Oasis stratosphere.

The Police The Cure The Kills Savages Jack White P.I.L QOTSA Radiohead Elvis Costello Bob Dylan Grace Jones Joan Jett FKA Twigs I’m a long term Cure fan. In 2012 my partner and I travelled to Bilbao to the BBK Festival where The Cure headlined the first night to see them for the first time. We climbed the mountain to where the festival was held and with true fangirl grit and determination I made it through the approx 40,000 crowd to a spot one back from the rail in front of Robert Smiths microphone with partner in tow. She was whinging and whining about feeling sick, being too hot and feeling faint. I naturally told her to buck up. There were technical difficulties that night and the band were delayed by about 30 mins. Excitement and anticipation were growing when suddenly I felt my partner slide down behind me and the next thing I saw was her limp body and dangling little feet being passed over my head and being pulled out of the crowd by the bouncers. A choice presented itself. Leave my spot to find my wife of 15 years who had fainted, doesn’t speak Spanish and who had the handbag we were sharing with all the cash/tickets etc......or stay put for my hero and the concert of my life. Begrudgingly - I chose the missus. I found her at the designated safety spot at the side/rear of the concert and 2 things happened: 1. The spouse told me that while she was being tended to backstage by the kindly medics - Robert had driven up and she’d seen him up close walking backstage; and 2. Because of the technical problems, Robert played an acoustic set which, although I saw it on the big screens at the rear - wasn’t quite the same as from under his nose. As my very best friend Sallie says - if the bitch had only eaten a sandwich! this incident was too painful for me to even recount to friends for many months. Luckily for me - I got to see Robert from the rail last year when I saw The Cure in Sydney for a big birthday and he spoke to me - at least it seemed like he did. This was his acoustic set - it was magical: My partner is coming with me to see LG at Fremantle and that will be the first concert I’ve allowed her to accompany me to since the cursed Bilbao concert...

U2!
I saw them this past year in September for The Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary Tour and they were fantastic. The acoustics of the venue (U.S. Bank Stadium) were shaky, but the energy and spirit they brought performing such fantastic songs shined through and it was one of the best nights of my life. I'm thankful I was able to see such a classic album live being performed, with such an amazing display which I feel was like a full realization of what the PopMart Tour setup was going for (especially with that screen and the tree!). I'm thankful for being able to see some rarities like New Year's Day with the final verse actually being done, Red Hill Mining Town, and the back half of the album, with deep cuts like Exit (amazing live track) and Mothers of the Disappeared, being performed. Songs like Elevation and Vertigo that are kind of goofy (for a lack of a better term) in their studio form are absolute showstoppers and party tracks live.
If you have the chance to see them live when they do the E + I Tour next year, I highly highly recommend it. They can still bring it live and in the studio, even 42 years after their formation.

I met Robert Smith in 2008. I won a competition on MTV and met him before a gig in my city, I was surprised with how tall he is and how calmly he spoke. It was a week before my first gig, he was really kind and asked the name of my band and gave me some tips I asked him to play The Lovecats which he didn't, but the gig lasted 2 and half hours! It was a magical night for me and my girlfriend. My list: The Cure Blur The Stone Roses Franz Ferdinand Arctic Monkeys Death Cab for Cutie Those are the big ones, then there are a lot of indie/small bands or gigs from bands that I don't like anymore: Jet, Green Day, Mando Diao, Starsailor, The Coral (opening for Oasis in 2005)...

Whilst these bands are not the biggest or most legendary I’ve seen, the venues and circumstances I saw them in are pretty cool. From 2002-2005 I really had my finger on the Indie Scene pulse
Kasabian supporting Chikinki at Lichfield Garrick in Feb 04 The Killers supporting Stellerstar at Birmingham Bar Academy in 03 Kings of Leon at Scruffy Murphys in Birmingham 2002 Bloc Party at Birmingham Bar Academy in 2004 White Stripes at Shepherds Bush 2002
