I think the voice was in good shape but the mix was terrible.
Decent performance overall.

Greedy Soul was great but LG's vocal in the chorus was overpowered by the Big Mommas

Just listened to Wall of Glass, and wow.
Some have said that the harmonica is in the wrong key. That's impossible imo. Later in the song the harmonica is matching the guitar note for note. A harmonica can only be in one key. So if you're holding a C harmonica and the song is in D, all you have to do is pick up a D harmonica and you're automatically in tune.
It could be that the harmonica player started in one key and then the player switched to another harmonica mid song, but there's no real reason to go out with multiple harmonicas for one song.
I think there are a few problems. The keyboard sounds off. Obviously the guitar is too loud. And not only is the harmonica high in the mix, but it's not adding anything. It's literally playing the same melodic line as the guitar. With both of them cranked up it makes it muddled. If the harmonica isn't going to have its own melody, then it shouldn't be there.
Overall, I can't believe who ever was mixing couldn't get it right. Not that it's simple, but the easiest thing to do is to bring everything as level/even as possible, and then rebuild the mix. First with drums (mixer should have a decent idea of the mix the drummer wants if they soundchecked together), then the bass, then the guitars, then the vocals. Again, not easy, and for a little bit (by my ear) it sounded like the mixer tried to do it. But it epicly failed by the second chorus.

The BBC mixes are almost always shit. I had to turn it off last night after about a minute, I'm not sure who was to blame but that harmonica was horrific to start with (he looks like an alcoholic been on the piss since 8AM) and it never got better from there, having built the nerve to rewatch it. What a shame, as Liam's voice was pretty decent, he's just surrounded by amateurs.

Every time I hear anyone mentioning harmonica players.. I remember this moment 🤣🤣 That's the guy I mentioned earlier, Mark Feltham. He did all the big live shows with them around 95/96, including Knebworth and Maine Road. You can also see him on the White Room performance of Round Are Way. On record you can hear him on The Masterplan, Round Are Way, All Around The World and Gas Panic.

The single sounds better doesn't it, what with it rhyming. I think it's 'what was her name again'. I think it's a dig at that bird he got up the duff. After taking him to court it's a swipe as if it to say don't even remember your name, you're a no one

Its like when he sings Be Here Now live and says 'the scum' instead of the sun (Obviously as he hates that shite tabloid)

Jesus get the sound guy sacked on the spot for that Wall of Glass mix, absolute car crash.
Liam sounded excellent which is a plus at least, and Greedy Soul is a fucking banging tune.

You know when you kind of get a bit nervous for Liam before he performs on a bigger platform? Last night reminded me why i still get that. Used to be because of his voice, these days its because of his PONY band.

Try explaining that to this forum during the shocking DOYS tour era.

(I realise we have loads of voice theories btw and i dont want to start that discussion).

What were they doing during Wonderwall? Way too fast (only the 2nd time Liam sung this live)

But yeah, Liam is not only battling a wall of sound but arching his neck and singing at a unnecessarily ridiculous pace. Not good. Tbh though from 2004 onwards its clear the recently diagnosed condition was the cause. He could barely hold a note on some DBTT performances. So glad we will hopefully have years and years of good performances ahead but ffs get a better band!

I think LG, the band, and even the harmonica player sounded fine. The mix was just off. Same with Greedy Soul. I'm sure the versions we'll get on saturday will be miles better, that was the case with Millionaire on Jools if I remember correctly.
