For the ignorant ones bashing Andy, he is an extremely talented musician, spearheaded the shoegaze movement with Ride in the early 90s and still had a good run of songs with Hurricane #1. Oasis was just a poor fit for him genre-wise. He was asked to write ladrock stadium belters where he wrote tracks like Vapour Trail and Chrome Waves. Andy's talent was wasted by the Gallaghers between 2000 and 2013 (some of BE is good imo though). The reunion of Ride and the Weather Diaries album was the most refreshing full piece of music from the post-Oasis era for me. I never thought it was a good match. He was a big name for sure. A lot bigger than Gem who was barely a known man at all. I respect the hell out of Gem because he gave more to Oasis than I thought possible back in 1999. A good soldier for sure. The ironic thing about Andy and the Oasis sound was Noel kept telling him not to write Oasis inspired songs. It’s Andy’s fault for supplying Oasis cover band tunes and parodies like “Thank You For The Good Times”, “Keep The Dream Alive”, “Kill For A Dream” and “The Beat Goes On”. The best he did with the band was “Turn Up The Sun”. An outside the box tune. Andy shouldn’t have been so bashful all the time.

I think Andy was the right man in the wrong place, of course he is very talented but he wasn't a proper bass player to begin with, but Liam wanted him because Noel choose Gem so Liam wanted one of his mates too.
Andy is a great guy but Noel should have hired a proper bass player, a quiet bass player, to only play bass and give great bass lines.

Some good bass riffs. And Turn Up The Sun must be one of my favourite Oasis openers ever. I don't get the hate on this lad. Guigs did nothing on Oasis. Tell me one great bass guitar riff from Be Here Now. Go on. Guigs was the one the main reason The Rain started, which became Oasis. The influence and attitude of Oasis in the early days wasn't just Liam or Noel. Bonehead and Guigs brought a lot. Both of them were not as polished as Andy or Gem, but Oasis from 1993 to 1998 cast no shadow to the Oasis from 1999 to 2009. The Oasis from 93' to 98' just outshined Oasis from 99' to 09'.

Shouldn't have given him songwriting duties. (Or Gem)
Terrible mistake.

In Oasis' later days both Noel and LAG wrote seperatly then brought completed songs to the studio to finish off. I suspect it was actually Liam's influence that caused Andy to write such mid tempo, bland, straight forward by the numbers pop/rock in Oasis then Beady Eye. Noel has said a few times in interviews he wanted Andy and Gem to write songs properly and not 'for Oasis.' But i get the sense Noel and Andy were never that close and Liam had much more of an influence on him and Liam's taste is much more conventional.
I think Noel picking some of his 'shitter' songs like A Quick Peep and Nature of Reality was more about him rejecting the by the numbers rock and encouraging him to write less conventionaly to try to spur him into a different direction more than purposefully sabotaging him.
I thought personally he was a good addition, he looked cool on stage, played the Bass really well but the songs he contributed were well below what he was capable of and that's a shame. His handful of tunes on the new Ride album proves he never lost it.

I didn't know Kill For A Dream was demoed by Oasis but yeah I didn't know Noel told him not to write Oasis-esque tunes. This sounds to me more of pressure placed on Andy to come up with something reinvigorating and Noel in turn doesn't like it. The safe zone the band placed themselves in throughout the 2000s seemed for fans like you who lived it a cop out. SOTSOG was a great album foundation-wise to build on a new type of sound, puzzling they reversed course so quickly.

The only thing that would have helped Oasis post Be Here Now was time. Time off. A time out from everyday between basically 1991 and 1998. It was a whirlwind ride. A much needed break was called for but nobody wanted the hamster wheel to stop. Too much money to be made. This is when Oasis stopped being a "band" and slowly but surely became a brand. Maybe Oasis should have regrouped in 2002. Noel could have done a solo release of slower acoustic based tunes. Who knows.

If there was no andy bell, then there’d be no a bell will ring, then there’d be no andy bell will ring, then there’d be no andy bell will ring inside Noel’s head ☹️
Who’d want to live on that planet ☹️

Andy seems like a nice guy, BUT in nearly all the pics of the band - Andy either seems like an oblivious passerby that wandered in as the photo was snapped or a fan taking a picture with his favourite band. I guess the same can be said of Gem - but Gem LOOKED like he belonged there - didn't look so unaware* (edit added) Probably the personalities of Liam and Noel are so strong, interesting and intense that every other band member fades into the background - with the exception of Bonehead. Bonehead had a more expressive face than Alan, Guigsy, Gem, Andy, Chris, Zak or Tony.
As long as Noel-Liam are there, the rest of the band can be interchangeable.

What made Oasis and first two albums was the wall of sound effect on their records. They stepped away from that in Be Here Now. Liam's voice when healthy and the wall of sound was highly complementary to the sound of Oasis. The perfect example even live wall effect sound Oasis in 2009

Speaking of Andy... can we get admin to change out the Newsroom Banner at the top... having Andy's mug first feels weird. Just a random thought.
