Report: Favre To Retire
Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has reportedly decided to retire Tuesday, March 4, 2008 Sports Photos: Check out new pics of everything going on today in the world of sports!
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has reportedly decided to retire, according to FOXSports.com.
Favre apparently informed the Packers of his decision within the last few days, but a timetable to officially make the announcement has not been decided upon.
Favre has flirted with retirement over the last several years but came back each time and rebounded to have one of his best seasons in 2007.
The future Hall-of-Famer led the Packers to the NFC Championship game in 2007 after throwing for 4,155 yards and 28 touchdowns and compiling a 95.7 passer rating.
The Mississippi native will leave the game as the NFL's all-time record holder in several categories including wins by a starting quarterback, passing yards, touchdowns and consecutive games started.
A three-time NFL MVP, seven-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl selection, Favre was known as the ultimate gunslinger, often taking chances that resulted in big plays and endeared him to a national audience that regarded him as one of the toughest and grittiest players in league history.
He has completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 61,655 yards and 442 TDs over 17 NFL seasons, the last 16 of which were played in Green Bay after the Packers acquired him from the Atlanta Falcons.
If Favre does not have a change of heart and sticks to his retirement plan, his last pass will go down as an interception by New York's Corey Webster, setting up the Giants' upset win in overtime during the NFC title game.
The Packers will now look for Aaron Rodgers, a former first-round pick out of California, to take over the reins of the team.
Rodgers has had few opportunities to play since being taken with the 24th overall selection in the 2005 draft.

However the Packers say they want to preserve Favre's "legacy" and you'd think they'd do anything not to have him go to their arch enemy ;D What would be worst? Vikings or Bears? ;D

Favre reinstatement put off another day Trade to Vikings or Bears could be 'last resort'
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
MILWAUKEE – NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is giving the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre at least one more day to resolve their standoff before granting the quarterback his reinstatement.
"The Packers and Brett Favre are continuing their discussions," the league said in a statement. "The commissioner preferred to let those discussions continue rather than act on the reinstatement petition today."
Once Favre is reinstated, the Packers will have 24 hours to decide whether to cut him or restore him to their active roster. By not acting Thursday, Goodell decreased the chances Favre would be present at Packers training camp Friday.
Favre also could be traded – apparently even to a division rival.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Thursday that Packers officials have had internal discussions about trading Favre to the Minnesota Vikings or Chicago Bears as a "last resort" to resolve the smoldering controversy.
As recently as Monday, there appeared to be no way the Packers would give Favre what they suspect he's wanted all along: A one-way ticket to Minnesota. Packers general manager Ted Thompson said earlier this week that he would not consider trading Favre to one of its NFC North division rivals.
But with Favre poised for reinstatement and potentially ready to show up Friday to turn training camp into a circus, team officials might be willing to do just about anything. There were multiple reports Wednesday night that the team had offered to pay Favre up to $20 million to stay retired.
Thompson and other Packers officials did not immediately return telephone messages left by The Associated Press. The Packers did not have a public practice or media availability scheduled Thursday.
The team resumes practice Friday – and Favre might be back with them, unless something can be worked out soon.

In the latest chapter of the drama that is Brett Favre and his pending return from retirement, the veteran passer has told reporters that he has every desire to play for the Minnesota Vikings and is now motivated by his wish to compete against his former employer, the Green Bay Packers, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. In a text message sent to the Journal, Favre states, "My intentions have been to play, and with Green Bay. They say no, so I still want to play in this division for obvious reasons, which I made clear to management. If they won't let me play in Green Bay, let me play against you. That's where I am."

I would laugh if he goes to the Vikings.
He is still great, and I think if he has a few more good years, so be it!
