What does "use the franchise tag" actually mean? A few stories have popped up on my phone about players. Is it just mean they're transfer listed to put it in simpler terms?

It means a player before going into free agency to sign with any team is instead signed with their current team for one-year at the average top 5 salaries at that position, which helps with the salary cap to sign other players. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchise_tag

Jarryd Hayne at San Fransisco. I see him getting hit as a returner, running to the bench and crying. Ben Graham and Saverio Rocca were hit and they just shook their heads and went to the bench.

Bummed Darrell Revis didn't re-sign with the Patriots, but, the salary cap, offseason moves and Tom Brady help make the NFL the best league in the world. Hope Revis enjoys being the highest paid cornerback in the NFL while playing on the Jets. Spider 2 y banana.

I'm sure Bill has grand plans that our brains can't process right now. I loved Revis but you can't pay a 30 year old CB that much guaranteed money. That will handcuff the Jets down the line. Mark my words. They are not a cornerback away, they are an elite quarterback and then some away. The Patriots are still the SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS (Fuck Yeah!!!!!!!), still have BRADY, still have Bill, still have Gronk, still have Edelman and still have a young defensive core that will only get better.

I loved Revis but you can't pay a 30 year old CB that much guaranteed money. just like his 'grand plans' that gave us how many superbowl wins in the 10 years before this past season exactly? ya see, i'm so tired of the 'in bill we trust' talk around here. the fact of the matter is, it's no coincidence that the one year we add revis is the year we win it all. as a result of this superbowl win, the pats will once again coast off that for the next two or three years, get their 11-12 wins per season and go to the afc championship game, on the backs of brady's leadership and game play, and belichick's coaching. spin it any way you'd like, but the fact of the matter is they had one of the best--- if not the best--- corners in the game.... and a game changer.... and they chose not to keep him. if the pats didn't think that a 30 year-old revis was worth it, then they should have just picked up the one-year option they had on him, kept browner, kept this damn team intact and go for the whole shebang once again this coming season. but instead, they are now taking their foot off the gas. again. rumor has it the pats were only 4 million away from what the jets ultimately gave him. so billionaire kraft couldn't find the extra 4 mil to keep him around? really? revis and browner are both gone.... so they will replace them with.... who?

It's not really Kraft's billionaire wallet that could sign Revis. There is a thing called a salary cap which you aren't allowed to be over in the NFL for 1 second without getting immediately fined and the juice keeps running until you get back under. Nobody goes over.......ever. You can't give a non-QB all that guaranteed money at age 30. Players age fast at non QB spots and that contract will handcuff you. Can't invest all that money in just Revis and Browner. Browner was also a huge liability in the postseason and his penalties. Risky guy. Bill rolled the dice on last season and hit big. Super Bowl champs big. Awesome. Now he's rebuilding the front 7 with Jabaal Sheard. That's gonna be a nasty core right there and we still have plenty of money to throw around to beef up the secondary. FACT: The Jets will never win a Super Bowl with Revis.

FACT: The Jets will never win a Super Bowl with Revis. the fact of the matter is 'the cap can be manipulated in a number of different ways'--- direct quote from belichick himself. teams do it all the time. believe me, bill and bob could have found a way to keep everyone around for another season if they really wanted to. again, if they thought revis, at age 30 wasn't worth the $$ and risk to tie him up long term (and i might just agree with them there), then they could have picked up the ONE YEAR OPTION they had on him to bring him back for one more year. he is still the same guy he was this past season. fact of the matter is, you roll the dice on every high-profile player you sign. from rookies to veterans. they are all ticking time-bombs. a 30 year-old verteran could all of a sudden lose a step just as easily as a first-year rookie could blow out his knee or tear his acl. the only question is, when is it going to happen? i will take browner and his penalties any day of the week. how many penalties has seattle racked up over recent years? they have done pretty well. as did the pats--- with browner--- last season. of course revis won't win a superbowl with the jets, and he knows it. it's not his fault, they have no f-ing quarterback. he now has his ring, he has his money, and the glory of 'coming home'. apparently that is enough for him.

The Patriots didn't have the cap space to go much higher. It would seriously impact their ability to sign anyone else. A lot of players on this team make a lot of money. Hence the Mankins trade last summer and releasing Wilfork. Now Bill is reinvest that money in great buy low players like a Sheard. Pats fans were killing the team over Welker a couple years ago. How did that work out? He got too expensive and older and hasn't done anything the much CHEAPER Edelman could do. Julian has the big moments in the playoffs. Welker.......not so much. Pats defense is still very strong. Still have free agency and the draft coming up.

Speaking of Revis...............I wonder what the Jets penalty of tampering is gonna be? It seems people forgot the Patriots filed tampering chargers in mid January.

Giving Revis $20M would have been stupid. Way too much money. It was going to impact other areas of the team to extend and sign to personnel.
