Ok,so, I saw the thread on the Gorillaz song and that gave me an idea: everyone can choose a relatively unknown track and each of us can rate it. ONE song rating per day. The order of the song ratings will depend on when you proposed a song (the first song to be proposed will be the first to be rated, the second, etc).
NO Oasis, Beady Eye or High Flying Birds tracks and no big hits from cult or famous bands. The goal is to see the variety of taste of the forum and to discover some unknown gems.
I start first: "Get Me Away from Here I'm Dying" by Belle and Sebastian.

Where Do You Go To My Lovely + Ole Black 'n Blue Eyes + Perfect Lovesong (The Divine Comedy)
Overall, great influences + decent lyrics + nice arrangement - I don't like the Morrisseyness of the singers vocals
I can feel a strong 7/10 on this thing
Blessings,
Alan Partridgechino Fantano

Lovely stuff as always, but I always felt it was a bit lightweight compared to other classics in the B&S songbook.
I'll say 8/10.

Classic song, 9/10, but not the best on that album which says a lot. Sorry I cheated as I know this one, but it's a great album - reminds me of summer 2012 when I bought the album, and it really is a perfect summer record. I've always thought that if Arcade Fire did an acoustic album, it would sound very much like If You're Feeling Sinister.

I've always wondered what was my favourite on this album as it changes all the time. Agree about Arcade Fire, especially "Funeral" era. Gorgeous melancholic melodies mixed with a lot of baroque music influences.

Gorgeous melancholic melodies mixed with a lot of baroque music influences. I'd probably say it's my favourite one. But it's a tight one between that and Stars of Track & Field. Even though it's not talked about as much as other albums from the 90s (even bang average albums like Blur's Great Escape seems to gain more attention), it's undoubtedly one of the greatest albums of that time.

If You're Feeling Sinister is one of those cult 90's albums that I keep intending to check out but keep forgetting to. As for this song, it's rather nice! Its naked youthful innocence is eerily prescient of the indie rock that would dominate the next decade. Which can be seen as either a good thing or a bad thing, considering how many terrible bands the indie rock genre would produce. But that's not a slight against this song, which is, to me, a clear 8/10. And I dispute that The Great Escape is an average album. Sure, it's not Parklife, but it's just as witty and cynical, even if it sometimes goes over-the-top.

I think Blur are brilliant, and that phase of Blur (the 'Life' trilogy) is still my favourite but aside from a handful of songs, the album just never grabbed me. Ironic because The Universal and Country House were the first Blur songs I liked!

lubeck , how are we going to pick the next song to be rated? Is it given to the first person to suggest another song? If that's the case, then I'd like to suggest Disco Inferno's tune Starbound: All Burnt Out and Nowhere to Go. I'd love to see how the forum reacts to something more challenging.

Yes, it's given to the first person who picks a track . By the way, you can all nominate a track, I'll keep them all in order (the first person that suggests a track have the first, the second one will have the second pick, and so on)

Nice sampling and loops, really weird vocal loop there, really cool. Never heard Starbound before - sound a bit like a totally fucked up version of Underworld!
8/10

But I agree, it's a fantastic track, and Disco Inferno is really one of the great forgotten bands of the 90's.

It's a pretty ordinary song. But I certainly like the lyrics, the climax and the female vocals towards the end. The singer's voice reminds me of the voice of the singer of the dutch band Moke. So that's a bit of a minus point, or a disadvantage because of my own asociation. A strong 6 to a light 7...
Blessings,
Weird'Al' Partrovice Fantano

^ I really like the verses and Neil Finn's voice is brilliant, but I'm not keen on that chorus as the voices are quite grating.
I'd give it 6/10 but would probably rise with more familiarity to the chorus.

Blessings, Weird'Al' Partrovice Fantano Yeah, Roddy's more of a folk singer, but this has a more straight up alt rock latter REM vibe to it. I think this is his most accessible and instantly catchy single.

His songs are always in need of getting used to. This song has a very unusual production. That's why I chose it. The blend of the bright artificial female choir, the bongos and the baroque pop esque string ensamble really get me hooked. But when I first heard it, I probably thought it sounds a bit watered down and very unusal to my ears as well.

I'd give it 6/10 but would probably rise with more familiarity to the chorus. Fun fact: Those voices in the chorus belong to the lovely Lauren Laverne. If the song grows on you, check out the rest of the album its off, Absent Friends. It's a belter. And for me, Come Home Billy Bird is one of the weaker songs on it. On that note, I give the tune a 7. (I like his goofy tracks, but it's the slower numbers where I think Neil really excels)

I quite like the song. Reminds me of a Sufjan Stevens song (I think it's Chicago). I'd give it a 7 aswell
By the way here's a track I'd like to nominate for a future round:

It's not like there are differences in the quality of the music. Hannon really seems to be one of the most dedicated songwriters. Even simple songs like 'At the Indie Disco' have their charm. To every Radiohead fan, I would definitely suggest the album 'Regeneration'. On a site note, it's ironic for a guy, who has fear of flying to write a song about an intern business traveller.
