Absolutely fucking not! Gem is a legend. You're right. I played his heavy stereo album once in 1998 and literally never again. Rock n Roll! He's definitely not much of a song writer. But he's a legendary guitarist.

I'm sorry, but two of best Beady Eye songs (The Roller and Second Bite of the Apple) are Gem songs. Liam is a pretty shit songwriter. It's cute how you guys think Liam is more than a singer who did what Noel told him to do.

Hendrix Page Clapton Van Halen Richards Gilmour Townshend Prince Slash Harrison To name but a few.... Prince? No... sorry mate! I can agree with the rest though. But Gem would be up there. To me, even ifa guitar player hasn't done anything spectacular on record that they're not in my top 10. I also take into consideration the player's capabilities, general talent and potential. If I were to give a guitar to Gem I know he could play anything. Same with Johnny Marr which is also my top 10. Keith Richards for instance is more impressive than talented. Not saying he's not talented just that I don't think he'd be able to play anything as seamlessly as others in the list. Top 10 all-time or Top 10 in England between 2001 and 2008? Maybe means Top 10 in Oasis? Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Jimi Hendrix is in your top 10. Jimmy Page is in your top 10. Eric Clapton is in your top 10. Keith Richards is in your top 10. Gem Archer? Not in your top 10. Are you on something? Gem is a far better guitarist than Noel or Bonehead. Apparently Bonehead is quite surprising (according to Liam). But yes Gem is the best guitar player Oasis has ever had.

Lets put it this way, if Gem never became an Oasis member you'd never say such things. Once in Oasis its not like he composed any great guitar solos or licks. Shit, Oasis barely had guitar solos post 2000.

And like I said, he hasn't done anything particularly impressive in Oasis or Beady Eye. But I'm positive he could. He's got the talent and the potential for it. To me anyway.

Like I said my top 10 is made of guitar players who did amazing things or whom I know I could give a guitar and he could do amazing things. That's how I feel about Gem. Plus being a guitarist myself I do feel like some of them "top" players are sometimes just overrated (none in your list bar Prince). With a couple of pedals it's easy to look amazing while doing very little. Carlos Santana and The Edge are great examples. Lackluster guitarists who sound like they're better than they actually are.

Its like how Andy Bell is a top 5 bass player for me. I mean he's not really a bass player but he could be a bass player. He wrote Nowhere and could use his magic to be an extraordinary bass player. Plus he's always looking at his shoes and shoe laces kinda look like bass strings.

All in all i find it great news. To be honest, I wish Noel could a really good and creative guitar to stir things up a bit, but since this is clearly not on the table, I'll have Gem anytime as long as Tim Smith is away from solo duties.
