Went with The Verve, Beach Boys and Radiohead
I think Beach Boys should win and would fit marvellously

So after a hiatus (apologies again folks), this project is back up and running. Didn't realise what a top top quality round this one is until I was putting all the nominations in the poll. I do hope I haven't missed any out. Again, apologies mimmihopps but I had to omit Crowded House as it wasn't track 8, but again, because we share a love of a few bands here, I had to nominate Pills I Swallow by The Twilight Sad - there's no way their 'magnum opus' (in my opinion) of Nobody Wants To Be Here was being left out of nominations (my eventual nomination along with Jungleland by Bruce Springsteen)! No problem at all.

Is this the round where the English monopoly ends? Yes, now that's for Ireland.

There's an awful lot of GREAT songs in the poll, but I'd like to highlight how incredible this song is, mainly because it might be overlooked by some/most of the voters. MBV for the win!

As much as I enjoy Loveless, Sometimes doesn't really do much for me. The first 6 tracks imo are great, especially Only Shallow, but after I Only Said, for some reason for me nothing really clicks apart from Soon.
Voted for Death Of A Party, Idioteque, Firestarter and <cough> the two I nominated.

Only voted for 1 song. Would be a disgrace if it didn't win.

May I appeal to all the Dylan fans to not vote for Mr. Tambourine Man? Yeah, of course it's one of his best songs, but I'm sure that we can all agree that we'd rather have Most Perfect Song of All Time (Desolation Row) close the Most Perfect Album of All Time.

The synths towards the end elevate this song to masterpiece status for me.

Do you really think that would have a better chance of winning? I'm very doubtful. Besides, I prefer Mr. Tambourine Man out of the two, so there's no way you're gonna get me to do this

Yes you may. Those people could vote for God Only Knows instead

Your father made foetuses in flesh-licking ladies, while you and your mother were asleep in the trailer park - thunderous sparks from the dark of the stadium, the music was medicine you needed for comforting...
So lend all your fat fleshy fingers to moving, and pluck all your silly strings and bend all your notes for me - the soft silly music is meaningful, magical, the movements were beautiful inside your ovaries, all of them milking with green fleshy flowers.
And powerful pistons were sugary sweet machines, all smelling of semen and under the garden was all you were needing when you still believed in me - say what you want to say and hang for your hollow ways
moving your mouth to pull out all your miracle for me...
...I know they buried her body with others her sister and mother and 500 families and will she remember me 50 years later I wish I could save her in some sort of time machine
Goldaline, my dear we will fold and freeze together far away from here there is sun and spring and green forever but now we move to feel for ourselves inside some strangers stomach place your body here let your skin begin to blend itself with mine ...

I voted for my own nominations (Jungleland, Pills I Swallow) Violet Hill (being a 17 year old and hearing the anticipated new single of a band that is totally of your generation - and it being so much superior to anything off the last album and many of Coldplays singles - is always one of those golden memories of adolescent years), Loud Places and, of course, God Only Knows. Got a gut feeling though that the latter won't win.

I'm still hesitating on some tracks. There are a lot of great songs on that list... I really don't know which track is going to win. matt , when this round is going to end ?

just a random observation so far with these polls. it seems to me, that the more a track is hyped up, both during the nomination process and during the actual voting, the less chance that track has at winning.
god bless.

I did think about those ones, including White Shadows, but Violet Hill just has the more instant appeal and was so concise. Not a second is wasted on the track, and the neat understated coda at the end is about as perfect a way to end a song as you can get.
