Any fans here? I've recently relistened to all of their stuff, and it was reassuring to find out that they're just as good now as when I first heard them in the car as a kid. They truly made some timeless tunes, and those harmonies are in a league of their own. I rank Paul Simon as one of the greatest songwriters, and if I should recommend only one song that he wrote, it would probably be this one. Absolutely marvellous.

He was married to Princess Leia. That was cool.

Fantastic. The best harmonies with some of the best melodies ever. Paul Simon's a genius and one of the greatest songwriters of all time, while Art Garfunkel is one of the greatest singers of all time.

Well, don't know about the BEST harmonies, but definitely one of the best and agree on everything else. What's mindblowing is how they couldn't stand each other, something which is quite obvious when you judge their body language on some performances. Anyway, I was raised on S&G. They were my grandma's favourites and her love for them jumped over to my parents who also used to play their music a lot.

Absolutely, and for sure, it is all subjective, but I think its a close competition between S&G, The Beach Boys and The Beatles.

A great band. I remember hearing "Mrs.Robinson" for the first time when I was 13 and it blew me away.
It's been a long time since I have listened to them. I have only heard "Bookends" as an album (+ all the hits) and I thought it was great. Must listen to "Sounds of Silence" (the album), soon.

I guess it's opinion(as I don't rate the Beatles voices at all) but I would have to say that pure vocal harmony wise, the Eagles have to be up there.

It doesn't get much better than S&G. I could carry on about their merits for ages.
Perfection this...

Simon & Garfunkel are one of my favourites, too. Their only flaw is that even though they released some fantastic songs I never really listen to the first three albums in full. But Bookends - that's where they absolutely nailed it! Bridge Over Troubled Water is obviously a classic LP but it has more of highs and lows whereas Bookends is great from start to finish.
By the way, has anyone moved from S&G to Paul Simon's or Garfunkel's solo work? I've heard Paul's American Tune and that was shockingly good!! Haven't heard any of Garfunkel's stuff, though. :/ I've been planning to start collecting Paul's albums from Heart & Bones. I read that it was supposed to be S&G's comeback album until the record company bosses decided to ditch the idea and had Garfunkel's parts removed.
And if some of you haven't seen this clip before, I'd like to share one of my favourite things online:

So schmaltzy, but when I die I want that one to be among the songs played at my funeral.

One of my all time favorite groups. I was lucky to have seen them live at MSG in 2003. It was magical.

And if some of you haven't seen this clip before, I'd like to share one of my favourite things online: One thing that's always intrigued me about Bookends is how well balanced it is with the first half being a concept album, and the second half essentially pop singles. First half is very poignant and beautiful about the ageing process whereas the second half is a bit more fun and more in the spirit of the 60s - and it surprisingly works really well. Personally, I find that a lot of concepts are laboured and become stretched thinly across one entire album but Simon & Garfunkel keep everything concise by restricting it to one side of the LP and it makes the general idea more potent. I often find myself listening to the first half on its own, or the second half on its own depending on my mood.

I'm in a big S&G phase right now, Garfunkel truly has a voice like no other and Paul Simon is amongst other things a very underrated guitarist.

Can't stop listening to these two. Amazing! This is a wonderful peformance too: The multi tracked backing vocal harmonies on the studio version is amazing, very dreamlike. Bridge Over Troubled Water is their 'Morning Glory' - not as conceptually tight as the album before but makes up for that with melodic brilliance and jam packed with hit singles.

I believe this the most underrated band ever. At least here.
