In the Supersonic documentary, there's a scene about recording What's the Story Morning Glory, and Liam talks about how all the band mates would go to a pub while Noel's recording his stuff. And at the end Noel says, "Where's everyone gone?" or something like that. I was listening to the demo of Don't Go Away (not the mustique) and Noel says that line at the end. Why would he be recording Don't Go Away during the What's the Story Morning Glory session, or was it in a different occasion.

Bonehead, in an interview years ago, talked about Noel playing most of BHN on acoustic guitar for the band at the conclusion of the MG sessions. He specially mentioned Don't Go Away as a tune which made an impression. So that song was definitely around during Morning Glory.

"Champagne Supernova was started on Thursday evening. On Friday Liam tried singing it, but the other three vocals had taken their toll. So we left it and took the rest of the night off. Brian Cannon had arrived the night before, so tonight was party night. At midnight it was my twenty-seventh birthday and I was rocking. I’ve got a tape that was recorded that night of Noel singing us his songs for the next album. Fucking hell. Stand By Me, Don’t Go Away, and All Around the World. We were buzzing. At about five o’clock, just Brian, Noel and myself were still up. I gave in at about ten o’clock. Noel and Brian didn’t go to bed. We did fuck-all work on Saturday." The 'DGA (demo)' and 'Stand By Me (demo)' released with the BHN re-issue are from this session. The 'AATW (demo)' released on the Japanese version is from earlier, most likely sometime in 1994.

I don't know for sure, but I would speculate that Noel's line "Where's everyone gone?" (from the Don't Go Away demo) was used purely as a storytelling device in Supersonic, to lead into the sequence about Liam and Bonehead going off to the pub whilst he continued to record guitar parts at Rockfield.
Just going off memory here, but I think that was the scene.

Isn't it weird how Noel kept songs back for other albums? I've never heard that from other bands
Some bands start songs but don't finish them or wait the right sound of a record but who demos songs like Stand By Me and Don't Go Away for an album session but doesn't use them??
Morning Glory didn't need them but still it's fucking brave as there's two classics there waiting 2 years to be heard

Agreed that Noel's comment comes from the acoustic demo of Don't Go Away (disc 2, track 12 of the reissue), but according to the reissue sleeve notes that version was recorded, produced and mixed by Mark Coyle at the soundcheck at Club Quattro Tokyo, Japan on 14th September 1994. So this would be another version, in addition to the unheard take recorded by Owen Morris during the Rockfield session for Morning Glory. I guess this bit of studio speech was useful in setting the scene for Liam's anecdote about going to the pub, meeting Cable there etc. Anyway, I'd love to hear the version that Owen taped as well. I wonder if that still exists? Hopefully so.

To me, the entire demo of DGA screams that 'MG' sessions era. If I'm wrong I'm wrong though. Then again, the sleeve notes say 'Trip Inside' is a 3.35 acoustic

I've been giving the DGA demo a spin today which led me to finding this thread, I'm with bt95 in thinking that it definitely sounds like it could be from the MG sessions to my ears.
The fact that Noels missing/forgetting lyrics fits with the theory that he's playing the track at a whim to Owen Morris with little or no preparation.
Add to that the vocal, and indeed the whole sound of the recording being very different to the SMS soundcheck at Club Quattro Tokyo. It's got to be 1995 in my opinion.
