This has floored me. What a gorgeous, gorgeous tune. They've done it again: I didn't think it was possible to top the masterpiece that is Lost In The Dream, but A Deeper Understanding is well on track. i'm an old fart that really doesn't get into a lot of the new stuff anymore, and i don't know a lot about these guys, but i must say i'm really digging this.

If you haven't listened to their 2014 album 'Lost in the Dream' yet, do it now! Album of the decade so far, in my humble opinion.

I can already feel Pitchfork naming the new Grizzly Bear album top 3 of the year.

Call the Police is a very good song. The lead singer sounds a bit like Paul McCartney in the beginning and then it progresses really nicely. I've never gotten into the band but that song has me interested in checking out the album now as well.

I can't wait Only listened to Paul's album once so far but it sounds pretty good. Paul's (ex mansun) comeback with a new album is a big deal. Imo, mansun was an amazing band, totally underated with a great discography. A class on their own. Dare to say genius. Their 2nd album "six" is a masterpiece one of the greatest albums of the 90s. Also the cribs...one of the last real punk-rock-indie bands. A national treasure with a great discography. Imo, much better than the strokes.

New Alvvays tune from the upcoming album. The verses' melody sounds a bit forced maybe, and the chorus totally reminds me of Crash by The Primitives (cool song by the way!) Still very catchy though!

His best album to date... Ok, knee-jerk reaction à la people giving FWIW 10/10, just basing that on first listen after getting the CD in the post (as well as a free signed print with it ). If not his best then it definitely stands more than comfortably alongside any one of this first 3 albums. Highlights other than the singles imo on first listen : Many Moods at Midnight, Dopamine If I Do and Woe Is Meee (feat. Daddy G from Massive Attack) ghostpoetofficial.bandcamp.com/album/dark-days-canap-s

In another thread a forum user was saying that 2017 hasn't been a great year for music. I strongly disagree... I believe it might be the best year in years, and it's going to get even better! Good/great albums released so far:Ryan Adams - Prisoner (February) Amy MacDonald - Under Stars (February) Holy Holy - Paint (February) Ryan Adams - Prisoner B-Sides (April) Slowdive - Slowdive (May) Beach Fossils - Somersault (June) London Grammar - Truth Is a Beautiful Thing (June) Cigarettes After Sex - Cigarettes After Sex (June) Ride - Weather Diaries (June) Public Service Broadcasting - Every Valley (July) Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds from Another Planet (July) Hammock - Mysterium (August) The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding (August) Albums that are yet to be released:Mogwai - Every Country's Sun (Sept. 1st) Daughter - Music from Before the Storm (Sept. 1st) Alvvays - Antisocialites (Sept. 8th) Liam Gallagher - As You Were (Oct 6th) NGHFB - Unknown name (November, hopefully!) U2 - Songs of Experience (Dec. 1st according to rumors) Johnny Marr - Unknown name (unknown date)

You got round to listening to Holy Holy's latest, then? I think it's a pretty assured sophomore album, myself. The tunes are generally good (love the first three, and True Lovers and December from further down), and it moves their sound on a wee bit too. Good on 'em. I hope they start getting more attention outside of just Australia, in the coming years.

Best albums for me, in no order: I See You - The XX DAMN - Kendrick Lamar Arca - Arca More Scared of You than You are of Me - The Smith Street Band 4:44 - Jay Z Everything Now - Arcade Fire Scum Fuck Flower Boy - Tyler, the Creator A Crow Looked at Me - Mount Eerie Who Told You to Think??!!?!?! - Milo Saturation - BROCKHAMPTON Great EPs from both DJ Shadow and Aesop Rock, too. I'm now hyped for: - Noel Gallagher - Liam Gallagher - Chelsea Wolfe - Zola Jesus - BROCKHAMPTON (again) - Eminem

'Paint' is a very solid album, it's not a groundbreaking record but I really enjoyed it all the way through. Elevator is my favorite track on it hands down.... glorious guitar licks all over it!

Mogwai's and Daugther's new albums are out next week, then a week later The National. I wish I had more time and even more ears. What a great year for all of us, music lovers!

Looking forward to Morrissey's new album (out in November), although WPINOYB was a let down.
