Solo career looming = must hoard some good songs. That is the worst conspiracy I have ever heard, and wish people wold stop spouting it. Does my head in. You've spouted worse ;-) I was being fairly facetious with that comment, but I'm sure it was a small factor in a whole bunch of contributing factors. ✌️

I would have loved to have seen the versions of the songs on DOYS if they were written in 97.

What was the deal with the alternative versions of the songs? Not the remixes by other acts, but the versions of the Turning and Waiting For The Rapture. Were they demos or done after the album as just bonus material for the deluxe version. Are there likely to be different versions of all the songs hanging about in the vaults? Noel, Gem, and Terry Kirkbride recorded these alternative versions at Strageway Studios in L.A. with Paul Stacey on production some months after the DOYS sessions. It was the last Oasis recording session. I wonder why they recorded them after the album was done? Any more info on that at all? Purely as bonus material for the album maybe?

Terrible, shockingly bad album. It's competes with DBTT as the worst thing Oasis ever did.

Noel's passion for Oasis diminished after Be Here Now. This is obvious when you look back through his interviews. I don't know if this was because he had given up drugs, getting older, split relationships (wife, band members) or just simply not being able to write classic after classic but Noel lost something sometime after Be Here Now.
Noel Gallagher of the 90s would not of written Force Of Nature or greenlit songs like 'A Quick Peep' 'The Nature Of Reality' or 'Ain't Got Nothin' for album inclusion. Those songs are not even B-side standard when compared to the 90s output. By 2008, Noel had one eye on a solo career.

I don't get the criticism of this album. Imo it's the best album since BHN.
Bag it up The turning The shock of the lightning Falling down I'm outta time Waiting for the rapture
That's 6 solid songs.
All great songs. To be where there's life and Get off your high horse lady and soldier on are very decent imo.
The nature of reality and ain't got nothin are forgettable but not so bad either.
The Turning is one of the best songs they released since the 90's. The shock of the lightning was a very experimental song and they really pulled it off big time. Falling down and Bag it up are both great. I'm outta time is arguably Liam's best song.
Remove TNOR. Replace it with Boy with the blues and it's right up their with their best albums.

They are not 6 solid songs, and TBWTL, GOYHHL and Soldier On are absolutely dire - some of the worst songs ever written. The 3 singles are the only redeeming tracks on an absolute stinker of an album, that is not fit to wash the boots of 90's Oasis albums. Hell, its not even fit to wash the boots of HC - and that is saying something...!

Had those 6 songs been released as an EP it would have been the best 21st century oasis release by a long way.

The Turning is fcukin immense.
Some class tunes on there, but you could never listen to the album in full again tbh.

Noel was keen on Led Zeppelin around the time of the recording of the album at Abbey Road. Had just attended the reunion gig at the O2. He should have pulled a Led Zeppelin and only put the best tracks on the album. Screw the overall number. Something like this......... Bag It Up The Turning Waiting For The Rapture The Shock of The Lightning Come On Outside I'm Outta Time Falling Down Boy With The Blues

I liked how they wanted to approach new sounds with DOYS, instead of doing DBTT part 2, DBTT was already HC part 2 to begin with.
I was listening to the isolated tracks the other day and there are some interesting stuffs on the songs, Sardy did a great job on the production desk.

The best phrase to use to describe DBTT is "fools gold". Sure it's pretty to look at but underneath there are problems..........everywhere. HC made DBTT look a lot lot better. I'll give it credit for giving the Oasis brand a needed boost in appeal. I don't ever listen to the album as a whole.

When I became a fan a few years ago, of course I listened to all the albums, but having seen this one been described as "a return to form" and all, it really disappointed me, which it still does.

Poor Liam vocals looking back. Needed a more Songbird approach.

I've defaulted to Broken Arrow over Part of The Queue. Very similar. They screwed the pooch with Let There Be Love. I dig the SOTSOG demo better. Much better.

POTQ is probably my favorite track from the album. How it swells towards its conclusion is heavenly. ----- I think we've derailed this thread.

I find it incredibly, almost unbearable at times, the lowest level of mediocrity you can get to with anything. It's saving grace for me is 'Idle', but after that, the rest of the album is seen to me as very generic. The flat mixes and brickwall mastering didn't do it any favors either. Problem with Heathen Chemistry is while the singles are ok at least (even though I'm drawn further away from enjoyment of them as time goes on), everything that is non-single is very much crap. DBTT lucked out on having at least one garbage track (Meaning of Soul), while the rest range from mediocre to stale. Kind of find DBTT Oasis' middle of the road moment.
