BAG IT UP
THE TURNING
WAITING FOR THE RAPTURE
THE SHOCK OF THE LIGHTNING
I'M OUTTA TIME
COME ON OUTSIDE
FALLING DOWN
TO BE WHERE THERE IS LIFE (FEARLESS VERSION)
I WANNA LIVE IN A DREAM IN MY RECORD MACHINE
BOY WITH THE BLUES Would have been amazing. Such a strong album *cycle*, shame the album itself was so flawed. But honestly who even listens to albums nowadays anyway!? Pretty easy to make your own playlist version. Little James hasn't been on the mossy version of SOTSOG for over a decade! A good point. Noel is always saying that if he kept all the Morning Glory b-sides for Be Here Now, Oasis would have matched The Beatles but what does it matter. Those songs still all came out, were heard and praised. Does it have to be on an "album" to be considered an all timer? A song is a song is a song. If it's good it's good.

What was the deal with the alternative versions of the songs? Not the remixes by other acts, but the versions of the Turning and Waiting For The Rapture. Were they demos or done after the album as just bonus material for the deluxe version. Are there likely to be different versions of all the songs hanging about in the vaults?

Oh go on then!... 1. Bag It Up 2. The Turning 3. Waiting For The Rapture 4. The Shock Of The Lightning 5. I'm Outta Time 6. I Believe In All 7. Falling Down 8. Boy With The Blues 9. Soldier On It's a shame to lose To Be Where There's Life (if I do this list again tomorrow, it'll probably be back in there somewhere), but that first side flows well, you've got a devil of a job trying to make the second one not sound so obviously inferior, when, barring Falling Down and possibly Boy With The Blues, you just haven't got any more top drawer material left. Obviously, in an ideal world, I'd have the 7 minute long, Zep-infused, Liam-sung Record Machine to go at (if that ever actually existed) - not to mention a completed version of Come On Outside, the song Noel meant to be the lead single! - but I think when you get into all that, you could be here all day, running around in circles, spluttering "But-!"'s and "What if..."'s all over the place. I don't even think we've scratched the surface, in terms of finding out what the band had in their locker in 2007/08. We know already, that tunes like Four Letter Word and The Morning Son were there, in some way shape or form, but it staggered me to learn, a year or so ago that actually, in some early guise, What A Life! was there as well. In the interview (dragged up by The Crimson Rambler ), Dave Sardy even said how he basically pleaded with Noel to "record these" tunes that Noel had demoes of, but Noel just laughed him off. Maddening. I don't know what the fuck was going on in Noel's head around that time.

They're listed as alternative versions 2 and 4, so there must be other versions of songs knocking about. I just don't really understand why they exist.

I've caned the albums so much now I tend to make big playlists where the relevant b-sides and any leaked demoes/rarities are listed after the album. I then stick it on shuffle. It's just that the SOTOG uber playlist does not feature Shittle James.

BAG IT UP
THE TURNING
WAITING FOR THE RAPTURE(Alt Version)
THE SHOCK OF THE LIGHTNING
I'M OUTTA TIME(Remix with that Clock Noise)
COME ON OUTSIDE
FALLING DOWN
TO BE WHERE THERE IS LIFE (FEARLESS VERSION)
I WANNA LIVE IN A DREAM IN MY RECORD MACHINE
BOY WITH THE BLUES/ (Soldier On)
IMO this would be up there with BHN as their 3rd best album. With alt WFTR no one would have accused Noel of ripping of the Doors, and with I'm Outta Time the Lennon tribute is less in your face, and no useless unrelated quote at the end.

The Shock of the Lightning 5. I'm Outta Time 6. (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady 7. Falling Down 8. To Be Where There's Life 9. I Believe in All 10. Boy with the Blues 11. Soldier On

Noel, Gem, and Terry Kirkbride recorded these alternative versions at Strageway Studios in L.A. with Paul Stacey on production some months after the DOYS sessions. It was the last Oasis recording session.

If Noel was willing to go back into the studio to do that and could get it done in time to release as an extra disc for the album, why the hell didn't he wait a bit longer for Liam to put down vocals for Come On Outside and Record Machine? This band really shot itself in the foot on a regular basis.

I take your point now in the digital age when downloading, playlists, streaming, etc. in many ways have made the album format obsolete, but back in 1997 with both the industry and majority of the record buying public hooked into the album format along with those b-sides not always being easily available on single format in many overseas (i.e. non-UK) territories then yes unfortunately they did need to be kept for a third studio album. In retrospect though for new generations of fans discovering the band this will matter less and less as they discover songs and make their own collections, playlists, etc. under modern formats, and perhaps the band will get a much overdue reappraisal of their overall catalogue of songs

Bag it Up The Turning Waiting for the Rapture shock of the Lightning I'm Outta Time (Twiggy remix) High Horse Lady Falling Down To Be where There's Life (Richard Fearless version) The nature of Reality OR Ain't got Nothing (I really don't mind these but 1 is better than both) Record Machine (HFB version fits better than DBTT one but solo and bass are lacking) Soldier On

Lennon, that's the perfect DOYS yeah I still listen to albums and only albums, no compilation as to me they are for lazy people. Most of the times, there's loads of hidden gems rejected from those so called best of. But as Mossy do, i make my own tracklisting, with only songs from the same sessions. So The album format (extended or shortened !) is still relevant, coz it delivers a feeling / an emotion from the time the songs were recorded, but the tracklisting, not so much...
