Like I said, it was only my personal opinion. I share the same views on BOTH Liam and Noel. I've seen Oasis enough in my life. I got my thrill. I was lucky. Now I'm on to their new careers and output. I'm all in on no Oasis songs. I never thought it would serve Beady Eye well. I stated 4-5 years ago that the moment they play a Noel written Oasis song, I give the band 12 months tops. That's what ended up happening. Probably a coincidence but it was my belief at the time. If Noel never played another Oasis song live at his gigs I'd be perfectly fine. Both brothers are fine with out the tent pole Oasis songs. If they believe and trust their material it'll show at the gigs. I'm sure back in HFB early days you remember everyone was saying album 2 for noel will only play 1-2 oasis songs? cos everyone thought he was serious about being as solo artist but he moved basically the other way.. So the point is noel isnt touring for his fans, people like you or me he's touring for casuals selling out an arena .. .So if liam can make an album make some cash following same route fair play edit idk why you highlighted BOTH? Because every time I say i'd prefer Liam and Noel to tour with post Oasis material, I get a swarm of people attacking me over Liam when I mentioned BOTH brothers. Thats why. People only seem to focus on the Liam part. Boggles the mind.

Liam can play anything he wants. If he want to play I Am the Walrus 10 times in a row, it's his choice. If he wants to play Columbia, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Rock n Roll Star, Supersonic and Live Forever, it's his choice. It's not hypocrite, if he enjoy those songs, why shouldn't he play them?
Noel's setlist are too safe, what he did in 2016 with his setlist was awful. (Exception for bringing Ballad of the Mighty I back, I don't like it, but it's not playing it safe) Liam playing Oasis songs means a bigger chance for people wanting to go to his concerts > Liam happy > Liam continues. Maybe it's selling out, maybe it's playing it safe, maybe it's the right thing to do, but if it means that Liam will keep going with his solocareer I'll be happy.

Liam, if you're gonna do Oasis songs, be sure open with It's Good To Be Free. Thanks.

beady eye playing gimme shelter was more adventurous than anything Noels done thus far in terms of setlist.
Liam 95 singing that tune would be pure fire.
beady eye refusing to play oasis tracks was cool man, they were serious about being a new band, just a shame DGSS was a poor move, had BE been released first I think they would still be around now.

Well we are apparently since you have a problem with Liam singing Oasis songs. Liam will focus on his own material I would expect as they did in Beady Eye when they played a paltry two Oasis songs and weird people lost there shit about it. Slagging off Noel has nothing to do with Liam doing songs he made his own and that Noel hasn't even played because of that association. Why is it whenever I say this stuff people only focus on the Liam part. I also always mention Noel in these statements. I gave Beady Eye and Liam great credit for focusing on their own material over Oasis songs. I do feel that its better to play stuff they wrote than not. Again for me its a pride and confidence issue. I could be wrong but that is just me. Nobody else. Because it's so much easier to focus on the negative for some people. It's easier to ignore the reasonable portion of a comment and completely focus on one thing and maximize it. If I say a bunch of positive stuff about Liam in a comment, with one point of criticism, I get attacked for that. If I say something positive about Noel, oh look, I'm team Noel! Despite often criticizing him as well. Recently someone referred to me as being anti-Liam, and I will not stand for that. Fuck 'em, I will not let somebody else tell me what I like. I'm an Oasis fan first and foremost and that means I'm a fan of BOTH brothers. Also, what the fuck has Noel's attitude towards people to do with the fact Liam will perform Oasis songs? This is a thread about Liam. People constantly have to put the other one down, even though it's irrelevant for the thread. SORRY for my rant, which is also irrelevant but something I had to get out. Carry on people.

I prefer both to be more focused on their new songs cause I already hated the fact that the latter day oasis setlists were based around tgeir greatest hits from dm and mg.
But I get the point that it opens liam the door to a bigger crowd so he can also show his solo stuff to a bigger crowd. If he moxes the setlist in a good way and tge aongs play well into each other it maybe helps him to get bigger during his first tour and help him to play less oasis the next rime he hits the road.
I would be cool of he only plays oasis and beady eye songs written by him but if he truly loves for example singing columbia or maybe dig out some interesting gems that would be great. Just stop singing wonderwall...

Liams songs should do good thats all I care. Then he can open the gigs with Sad Song and end them with with a heavy metal version of DLBIA.

But seriously, what would be the point ? who wants to go see Liam sing Cigs and alcohol, Whatever or Wonderwall, Supersonic AGAIN AND AGAIN. I like when artists try new stuff (looking at you Noel) Liam is in a new cycle, So forget about Noel and sing your fuckin songs. No one will ever take him seriously, ever, if he keeps on trying to cash in on Oasis. The point is selling more tickets and doing the fans (who mostly will be Oasis fans) a favour. You don´t take Noel serious then I guess? Noel does too much Oasis songs as well. But then again, it's his songs. Would you understand Macca singing 1/3 of Lennon's songs during his set ? fuck no. One a setlist of 12 / 14 songs, Liam should do no more than a couple of Noel's. People kinda lost respect for BDI once they filled their set with Oasis tunes tbh, the first time around, it was only their songs, and that was fine. You dont establish a solo songwriter career by singing your brother's tune, even though you sang on them ffs.

But I think people are a bit too serious on that matter. Lost respect for Beady Eye cause they did 2 songs? Really? Especially when Beady Eye consisted of the guy who sang those songs 15 years plus 2 other guys who did those songs live for 9 years and another guy who played drums live on those songs for a year? I don't have to understand it I guess. I said it before and I say it again. I'm with Liam on this. It's his songs as much as Noels. If he wants to play them he should do it. If half of his set will be Oasis songs it's too much for me but 2,3,4 songs, why not.

Play any oasis song. They're his as much as Noel's. Brings in the punters but will actually help people hear his own songs. Noel's always done half half. Liam can do the same no problem. The difference is Noel wrote those songs. He's got the ownership despite which brother actually sang them. Big difference. It's also a pride thing. Does pride really matter though? At the end of the day, 90% of fans at the gigs will be wanting to hear some of the classics which I believe Liam has just as much right to play as Noel does.

Very interesting discussion this. My main argument is that if he's gonna play oasis songs, then he shouldn't just do Noels songs. He should do his own oasis songs also. Nevermind the discussion about whether he should play songs Noel wrote, but doing what Beady Eye did with only performing Noel-written songs was weird.
Edit: Removed suggested setlist because I found out there was a thread specifically about this.

by all means play Noel songs but only if Noels parts can be filled in properly by either Liam himself or by other backing singers, never liked beady eye playing morning glory with no "weeellls" or live forever without the falsetto parts, just highlights that Noel wasnt there when really Gem or andy shouldve stepped up to the plate or pick a song that you can perform to completion.
surprised beady eye never did this one.

I think this shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what made Oasis great. It won't have anything to do with pride as far as Liam goes or who has there name of the legal document. Why does Noel not perform Rock n Roll Star or C&A or Morning Glory? Who is talking Oasis? I always prefer both Liam and Noel to focus on their solo material first and foremost. If they have to play Oasis songs, play the ones you wrote. Liam does enough slagging off of Noel, he should show some pride and rock out with his songs. It doesn't even come down to that. Im sick of noel plodding his way through listen up, sucking all the life out of champagne supernova or supersonic, and sticking to the same oasis songs over and over. Why should that be all we get as oasis fans for the rest of our lives? You are many others are adimant oasis will never get back together because it isnt wanted by noel, fair enough. But i will pay £25 to hear watch the best frontman alive sing the songs with his voice that makes them what they are, and im sure many others will too.

so it's another oasis tribute show, with liam shouting out wonderwall, cigs & alcohol, live forever, and rock 'n' roll star. with joe shmoe on bass, jack fuck on lead guitar, and harry schmedlap on drums. queue up for your tickets now!
at this point maybe he should just stick to the studio and do the random one-off acoustic gig with andy on guitar or something.

Again, Liam is trying to establish his own brand of music after Oasis. Beady Eye sadly crashed and burned. He's always talking a big game, DGSS better than DM for starters, but he came back to Oasis as a hail mary play. I just think he needs to be strong and do what Beady Eye did during their debut tour. No Oasis material. Plus he's always slagging off Noel but he's gonna sing the songs Noel wrote. I guess people just don't care and they want Oasis back so badly they are willing to hear the songs by any means necessary.

As I've already said, I just hope he chooses the right songs and/or the right musical arrangements that can suit his current vocal delivery. I'm not really interested in hearing him shouting and cutting lines short on Cigarettes & Alcohol because he has to overcome a wall of sound behind him.
That's a bit like what Noel did. He knows he can't top Liam's CS rendition so he morphed it into a different, mellower track. I personally love it, but hey!, that's just my opinion, man!!!
(Now, I realize that this probably makes me a feckin' Noel fanboy in some of your minds. I'm not, please spare me all that over-dramatic bullshit, thanks.)

For what it is worth as much as he insults Noel as a person or calls his solo music boring I have yet to read or watch an interview during which Liam insults Noel's Oasis songs. In fact I would go so far as to say that during the press for Supersonic he has done nothing but show respectful for Noel's song writing ability, so he doesn't look much of a hypercritic for singing the songs he publicly talks up. Whatever the rights and wrongs of him/Noel/Tony (bet the bastard sings Live Forever every night in his shower) playing Oasis tunes live I thought it was important to clear this little tiny misconception up.

Oh i dont take it seriously, just think it's an interesting topic to understand why some solo careers fail and other don't. Yeah the fact that they started playing Oasis songs was the first nail in the coffin. You dont attract new people by being Oasis minus Noel, of course people are gonna come for those tunes and not for the new ones. Take Jarvis Cocker : when he launched his solo career, he sung zero Pulp tunes. You may lose some of your fanbase but that's the only way to gain new people. Especially when it's the same band, it's suicide to go onstage and play your brother's tune, although you got like 30 songs to choose from between 3 songwriters. And some good ones... Or Dave Grohl with Foo fighters : he didn't start the thing by playing Nirvana's back catalogue. Coxon, when he plays alone, plays only his songs from Blur... etc I mean, am i the only one who think this is nonsense ? Of course those tunes belong to him, and in a few years, maybe he could slowly begin to play some of them, but first : make yourself a name without your brother's tune. If he was touring with not his own material, then fine, you're a performer, end of story. But here, he wants to be a singer / songwriter... So act like it. It's a very complicated situation though for Liam, i'll give you that.
