Loved the movie..
But I was a little disappointed by how much audio footage was clearly cut and pasted over certain shots... almost felt like we were being duped in places. It made me question how much of it was actually the real footage that coincided with what was being said. The King Tuts footage for example, the audio sounded much better than what had been previously available, and it was only recorded with a 90s camcorder, yet the sound quality was pretty decent.. made me wonder whether the sound had been taken from an early rehearsal or something..

Mat Whitecross said on twitter, I think to our very own davidjay, that they cleaned up the King Tuts audio. The Japanese video isn't the only source though. Mark Coyle also has a soundboard recording of the gig. He mentioned it in an interview with the Daily Record back in promotion for the Definitely Maybe reissue. The tape had a bit of "wobble" but its entirely possible they were able to restore the music for the film.

Hopefully this link should embed his reply. Cheers to Mat for the info. I took this to mean that they cleaned up the soundtrack on the Japanese videotape, but I guess they might have re-dubbed the sequence with audio from Mark Coyle's soundboard cassette. In 2014 Mark mentioned that unfortunately this audio cassette is a "poor quality, wobbly recording" with nothing usable. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/celebrity-interviews/sound-engineer-mark-coyle-reveals-3486555The reference to it sounding wobbly to me implies a problem with bad wow and flutter, which can now be corrected with some of the digital audio restoration software available these days. Celemony's Capstan is a good example, although it apparently needs a lot of tweaking to get the best result. The demo is impressive though. In the end credits it said that "Take Me" was written by Noel... wasn't that one of the crap tunes Liam wrote before Noel joined?

Just catching up on the home release of this - does the HMV version have EXTRA stuff exclusive to them, or have Amazon/other places just badly explained what's on the version they're selling?

Somewhere they discuss this topic... Basically, when Noel joined and started writing all the tunes they decided to give him owner ship of them all for some reason. Essentially, Liam didn't care at the time. So the credit as listed on the film is the copyright credit for which Noel owns almost all early Oasis tracks. Carry on.

I'll put it here then:
There's a Liam Vox Sad Song clip in the documentary!
Anyone else catch that? Is there a full version knocking around somewhere?

Definitely the first person to notice it. It's been out weeks but this is the first we've heard of it.
Sure you weren't hearing things?

I just saw it for the first time. Very cool
I was most excited for the King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut footage but was a bit disappointed that they only showed a short bit. Would love to see the whole gig. I can't believe Alan McGee signed them after only hearing 3 of their original songs + 1 cover. What a genius

I can't recall the source off hand though.

I'm still disappointed we didn't see Noel smashing Marr's guitar in Newcastle. If I recall correctly, they were even advertising that "infamous" Newcastle gig when they announced the doc.

A little off topic: that very guitar (a sunburst Gibson Les Paul, originally owned by Pete Townsend who later gave it to Johnny Marr) recently re-appeared at the Chasing the Sun exhibition, somewhat to my surprise. This means it got repaired and Noel kept it, although he never used it after the incident as far as I know. On a different note, he occasionally used the black Les Paul that Marr gave him as a replacement until the SOTSOG tour. I would have liked to see some footage from the Newcastle gig, as the guitar smashing story is very confused and at times contradictory. (pic from Instagram/Twitter/can't remember where I took it from)

That's interesting carlober! The black Les Paul is actually the reason why I bought my Les Paul this summer. I was going to buy Goldtop first but then I saw Noel with the black LP and absolutely loved its looks. And my guitar has also zebra humbuckers with coil-splitting so it matches the colour even better

Does anyone remember what Noel said about Liam wearing parkas? Did he say "Not a day goes by I wish I could rock a parka like the man" or "Not a day goes by I dont wish I could rock a parka like the man"? Was he complimenting Liam about parka's or taking a dig?

"There's not a day that goes by where I don't wish I could rock a parka like that man". I think he was serious.
