I am of the belief that Noel could not sing that well in the early days. Acoustically it is a different matter but listening to Acquiesce, DLBIA and Magic Pie live are a bit painful in the early days. When did his voice start getting better? Personally I look at the SOTSOG era as the incline. His vocals on that album are immense and some of his vocals live were unbelievable.
However, I think the world started to notice how good he was when TIOBI came out (himself too, I believe). Would anyone else go along with this?

In the middle of the Be Here Now tour he starts to improve. By the time of SOTSOG tour he's excellent, a stark contrast to Liam who's on the way down!

You can hear it get noticeably better during the second half of the Be Here Now tour, no doubt due to him singing more in the live shows with his acoustic set.

He stopped yelling and started singing. You can tell on his versions of Don't Look Back in Anger. His technique changes for the better every tour until leveling in the DBTT tour

jools holland is the crossover for me, the moment where Liam was just starting to come down and Noel was starting to pick it up more, he clearly started working on his vocals around that 2000 era imo and through to about 2005 where he started singing a lot better, you can hear how much easier he sings DLBIA nowadays compared to the early 2000s.
he even cuts off some of the long notes during barrowlands towards the end.

Funnily enough Noel started to sound better around the same time Liam started to sound worse.
Near the end of the BHN tour he started to sound more confident and by the time SOTSOG came along he sounded good. But it didn't end there. His voice matured more over the years.
I find it quite impressive that with his history of smoking, drugs, booze and whatnot, he can sing quite high and his voice is very strong and powerful live.

Since 1999 I think. Even he has trouble now with singing. The first line of The Death of You and Me and What a Life! doesn't sound good imo.

I agree with the OP... sotsog era is when he started to be able to sing as well live as the studio vocals. Early live versions of acquiesce could be cringeworthy.
And yes, I agree that TIOBI was a turning point, where I really was impressed by his singing. It was distinct from Liam, felt like something Liam couldn't pull off, whereas a lot of Noel sounding songs, you felt Liam could possibly sing as well, if not better.
Just running with that train of thought, a Liam sung Masterplan would be so good...

The funny thing is that, while I had that moment of "oh fuck he's losing his voice" when I first listened to Go Let It Out, I had the exact opposite response to the beginning of Where Did It All Go Wrong. It's as if some evil demon slowly stole Liam's vocal ability and gradually gave it to Noel.

He said himself it when he began singing Little by little live and stopped trying to sing so loud the people at the back could hear it and just concentrated on singing
