Just reading news reports about Zak's departure from his Oasis duties back in 2008, and a lot of them claim that his exit occurred due to arguments with Noel and management. Is there any truth to this? I always thought Zak's exit was due to his many commitments with The Who which he could no longer juggle between that and Oasis.

I thought he left the band due to him wanting to continue with the who.
...sadly I wouldn't be surprised if something went wrong though!

He had other commitments, like with the Who. For both bands he was asked to be an official member, but declined both btw. Anyway, he's been touring with the Who ever since and is also involved with other bands.
Also, Zak has always remained complimentary about Oasis, both as musicians and as persons.

He also started a band soon after leaving Oasis, I think they are the penguins or something like that.

I was under the impression that it always was a temporary arrangement. He was going to drum for them until he had to go.

I believe he was ready to tour, but saw the length of the tour and he couldn't commit to something so lengthy (I think it was Oasis longest tour). Probably got out at the right moment in all honesty, considering all the crap that was to follow.

never thought zak was a good fit for oasis tbh. I only ever heard though that he left because of other commitments.

Pretty sure it was because he had prior commitments with The Who. Don't think it was anything salacious.

He'd also been drumming with The Who long before he joined Oasis. Given that, he probably felt they should come first if there was any conflict in tour dates.

My Dad took Zak in his taxi once. He'd left his passport at home so the old man had to take him there and back again. True story.

Didn't really like Zak's style of drumming.
Chris Sharrock was a great addition though. Sharrock and Whitey, for the win.

Well, yesterday with the Who in Vienna, no one had any complaints against Zak. That concert was quite something else!

Gigwise ran an article in May 2008 where they claimed Zak had fallen out with Noel, although they themselves were repeating an unnamed 'source' to The Sun newspaper so make of that what you will- Gigwise- Zak Starkey to be replaced as Oasis drummerA year later he gave a very complimentary interview to Rhythm Magazine regarding his former bandmates, as well as comparing drumming in Oasis to being as demanding as playing for The Who. The interview is reprinted in part at Music Radar (May 2009)Contrast that to Alan White who aside from some quite pointed remarks made on his behalf by brother Steve has said nothing, or Tony McCarroll's well documented departure and subsequent legal issues and I think the simpler explanation given regarding commitments elsewhere, tour lengths, etc. is probably closer to the truth. His follow up band Penguinsrising featured in October 2013 for Q Magazine- Q Magazine- Who? What? Where? Zak Starkey
