I dont really see the hype for finsbury, see it quite often that people want it to be released but theres much better gigs out there imo, Liams in full shout mode at finsbury. lets hear it for lyon, 90s Liam coming through. If I had to rank post 2000 tours it would be....... 1) DOYS - Love the setlists despite Ain't Got Muffins!!! 2) SOTSOG - Liam still sounding as strong as ever. Their first Greatest Hits style tour. 3) DBTT - Fun vibes, MSG sell out, semi Oasis cool resurgence. 4) HC - Cool to have Soundtrack of Our Lives opening on US tour. 5) Brotherly Love - What was even the point? Opening for the Black Crowes? Are you kidding me??? Oasis fans out numbered Crowes fans 2 to 1. Plus no record to promote. Just seemed strange but I'm glad I saw them that summer. Best part was Noel mentioning the unknown Strokes prior to the NJ gig and me checking them out, thus becoming obsessed with them for 3 years. think DOYS was a good tour I guess even if it felt the moment had passed for me, band really started to work in tight formation, just a shame just as the band were producing studio sounding instrumentals, Liams voice had given up, imagine those setlists and instrumental quality with a Liam from the 90s or early 2000s? incredible. Some people might get mad me saying it but Liams angry, tired and lazy vocals probably ruined that tour (echo was the best they sounded that tour) HC was cool because they played a riskier setlist and dropped a lot of the standard hits. DBTT was good, maybe a abit bland for me, speed of play was a major problem for me, songs were WAY too slow, Liams voice awful for the last half (worst its ever been) brotherly love was alright, cool festival shows like fuji and rock in rio. Liam managing to bring 1997 quality vocals to the table for the last time. SOTSOG was the last tour oasis really felt the oasis of the 90s, still had the fun bouncy element in the air for the most part. Liams voice had a deeper rock element to it.

Liams voice had a deeper rock element to it. After 2002, Oasis really should have limited the number of shows. Liam ALWAYS sounds best at the start of tours. He's usually a train wreck near the end. My last Beady Eye show in December 2011 made me feel embarrassed for him. Sad really after two dynamite shows earlier in the year. Oasis should have done like 6-8 UK shows, a handful of European dates a month later and 4-5 USA dates.

I knew Liams voice was probably gone for good when hes doing shows after long breaks like poole 2004 or starting out tours like 2002 and not sounding like his usually rested self like jools holland 2000, could tell the damage was setting in. His voice ALWAYS recovered to great levels at the start of the tours, but it reached at point where it just never came back like it did, basically starting each tour post 2002 more and more worn out.

Are you implying his voice detoriated due to the lengths of the tours? Because I can tell you that sure as hell doesn't make your voice sound like that.

The year is 2001, for the last few years till then, rock was in an overproduced modus operandi, with nu metal, kid a, be here now, this is hardcore, machina, linkin Park all with layers Upon layers of production in their songs.
Maybe it was a reaction to grunge, or maybe not.
Along came Is This It, with its crude, rawer, more basic but still very energetic sound, it changed the rock landscape for the 00's along with White Stripes and The Hives.
So that was the order of the day.
Noel took notice, the past two Oasis albums were a bit overproduced BHN(a mess) and SOTSOG(more focused), and also both got not so good reception, so it was a time for a more back to basics approach.
So in those conditions HC was conceived, a more basic rock sound and underproduced, with the songs being more "songy" than before, but Noel forgot the rawness and the energetic parts, HC sounded tamed, inoffensive, and old.

Up until Heathen Chemistry, I considered myself a huge Oasis fan. Everything changed with that album. Suddenly Oasis became this uncool thing I was almost embarrassed to admit I liked. Mind you, age and timing might have played a big role as I was 13-14 at the time and getting into all sorts of forward-looking music (be it Zappa, Stravinsky, Coltrane or Aphex Twin). This album was the absolute opposite of that. It signified Oasis retreating into this bland parody of their former selves after the SOTSOG backlash.
I truly believe it is the worst Oasis album, and not only that, the worst in my record collection (which is fairly large, by the way). The reason? Simply put, Noel's songs are shit. The last two albums have some good/decent tracks from Noel, but there is no salvation for HC. No, I don't really like any of the singles, and I think SCYHO is the worst offender by being the most cliched, sirupy and bland track Noel ever wrote. It sounds like a parody of an Oasis tribute band. I understand people like it a lot on this forum, but I just don't get it. The one track I like (and actually, love) from this album cycle is Idler's Dream.
In hindsight, I wish Oasis would have called it quits after SOTSOG. Noel could have emerged with a more low-key, less Oasis-sounding kind of album between 2004 and 2008, when he had already improved his singing abilities, and Liam, Gem and Andy could have formed Beady Eye. It probably would have been a commercial suicide, and Noel wouldn't have started his solo career as successfully as he did with HFB, but I'm sure we would have got better music out of this arrangement.

Loads of bands play tons of shows without sounding like they swallowed a cup or nails. While a heavy touring schedule didn't help him... he neglected his instrument.

Ive always wondered if Liam deliberately effects his voice to sound the way it does, and if he can actually sing 'properly'. I love the way it sounds, but id like to hear Liam sing with a natural tone.

By 1999 the band split up, Noel was a shadow of his former self, his songwriting skills suddenly abandoned him, and the hell raiser party, having-it-large image of Oasis died with SOTSOG. Oasis were always about the good times, heavy drinking, drugs and rock n roll, and that can only burn so long before the candle blows out. Other than Gas Panic, Go Let it Out, a few decent B sides and a couple of singles from the 4 albums post 2000, Noel really had ran out of steam, and ideas. Oasis Mk2 really was a bit of a shambles, and shouldn't really have happened. The first 3 albums and B sides were at least 5 albums worth of music altogether. The Masterplan plus the remaining B sides could easily have been 2 further albums post BHN, and that would have been a far better way to end the band, rather than the dross we got with the likes of DBTT and DOYS.

Loads of bands play tons of shows without sounding like they swallowed a cup or nails. While a heavy touring schedule didn't help him... he neglected his instrument. but it was Liams technique that wasnt sustainable, the more he sang the more it got worn down, his voice pretty much always sounded rougher towards the end of the tours even in the 90s, it just wasnt so drastic. if Liam wanted to look after his voice it wouldve meant singing differently but as it was, it was wear and tear and therefore longer tours didnt allow it to recover. it wasnt THE reason it went down hill but when it became apparent that his voice was going down hill, they only accelerated that by long tours. If they toured significantly less in the 2000s, he most likely wouldve lasted longer. think its quite obvious that Liams vocal technique doesnt gel well with long tours.

Christ, it's cheery in here, isn't it?
Heathen Chemistry is their worst album because of some of the filler album tracks. The singles were great. Simples.

The same could also be said of SOTSOG, DBTT and DOYS. The first 3 albums - DM, WTS and BHN were brilliant in their entirety, with very little in the way of album fillers...

I'd rather we have reasonable discussion than be fanboy/girls you see on Twitter and the like replying to every Liam tweet. Proper cringeworthy stuff.
I'm on this forum because I had an unhealthy obsession with Oasis when I was younger. and their old stuff is brilliant. They've released the some good things since then. and a LOT of mediocre/shit output. The end!

I wouldn't take it that far. The SOTSOG cycle had quite a few good tracks. The album contains FITB, GLIO and Gas Panic. Go Let It Out has brilliant b-sides and One Way Road is also great. Full On could have been great too but it sounds unfinished. An album with those songs, a version of Roll It Over which was a bit more like the demo (bar the lack of guitar solo, obviously), and some of the other SOTSOG tracks would have been a very good farewell album, if quite dark and anti-Oasis in a way.

I think it's good to be realistic as a fan and not to worship someone to the idiotic levels some people do. It's good to be able to say "you know what? This person did this and that and it was great, but there's also this which wasn't that great, because this and that". Makes for interesting discussions. Much more interesting than "ohmygod, you need go see it this way and you need to like EVERYTHING someone does and agree with EVERYTHING, otherwise you're not a real fan".

I'm maybe in the minority, but I think HC singles are weak. Especially Noel's penned tunes. The Hindu Times wouldn't have been on any Oasis 90's album. It's cliched, like SCYHO and Little By Little. On the other hand, Songbird has a bit magic. Yes, it's 3 chords repeated over and over but it's a very nice song. Not a great Oasis single, but a song you enjoy listening. I think Liam already reached his peak of songwriting during that album. Along with Songbird, Born On A Different Cloud is his best tune. Yes, the Lennon's influence is VERY visible (I remember someone saying it was a 4th rate Lennon's rip-off and a big piece of shite; I think it was matt , but maybe I am wrong) but the song got something to it: an atmosphere. Could have had a better production but I think it's good songwriting from Liam. Better than anything from Noel, Andy or Gem on this album. Talking about Gem, Hung In A Bad Place is an other Oasis cliche. Don't like the melody, the guitar, Liam's voice sounds like he parodies himselfs. The rest is the rest... 1. Songbird 2. Born On A Different Cloud 3. Stop Crying Your Heart Out 4. Little By Little 5. The Hindu Times 6. Force Of Nature 7. She Is Love 8. Hung In A Bad Place 9. (Definitely) All In The Mind 10. Better Man (yeah yeah !)

I remember when I first listened to HC songs. I thought Hindu Times was really good and I still think it is. I'm not sure if it's because I was still discovering the band and thought "Oh this is their newer stuff, I like it". Force of Nature - I don't really have (old) memories of that song but I don't think it's that bad. I kinda like it. Hung in a Bad Place - Simple rock n roll, I like it. SCYHO - I used to like this song a lot but now I think it's a bit boring. I understand why it's a big hit, though. Songbird - This song always makes me happy. It's not really "good" song but it's very catchy. Little By Little - I think it's a great song. Not my favourite from 2000s but I can see why people like it. A Quick Peep - Nice little instrumental (P)AITM - What the fuck is wrong with his voice. Sounds horrible (sorry Liam). I like the fact that Johnny Marr plays guitar in this track. She Is Love - A while ago I thought "another love song from Oasis" but I've started to like this recently. One of my favourite tracks from this album. BOADC - Okay. Nothing else. Better Man - I like the vibe this song has, but that's it. So I "accidentally" listened to whole album when typing this.
