Still blown away at how he regained his voice. I honestly thought his live singing voice was no longer salvageable what with age creeping up and no evidence to the contrary over the last 15 odd years. Along with Noel having the balls to do something different from his usual ho-hum MOR music, this has been the best surprise Gallagher related this year, and indeed any of the years I've followed Oasis.

Born On A Different Cloud is a fucking tune. For a man of who the general public thinks he has no songwriting qualites he has penned down some class tunes.
If a person who isn't named Gallagher wrote Songbird, Born On A Different Cloud, Evil Eye and I'm Outta Time they would praise him to heaven.

He will never escape that comparison unfortunately.

That Nottingham setlist was basically just an Oasis gig.
Reform the band, you pair of mugs!

Has anyone else felt that All My People (Liam's Bonus track)and Interlude (wednesday part 1) from Noel's album, sound almost exactly the same in melody?

That Nottingham setlist was basically just an Oasis gig. Reform the band, you pair of mugs! That is pretty much his usual setlist now which is great, he seems to always be doing Rock n Roll Star and Morning Glory to start, followed by four or five As You Were songs, then two or three Oasis (usually Some Might Say, Slide Away and Rockin' Chair, followed by three more AYW songs, Supersonic and BHN to finish the gig then his encore seems to be Cigarettes and Alcohol, Live Forever and Wonderwall recently. Even chucked in D'you know what I mean recently

It's been two months plus since As You Were came out and I find I'm still really enjoying this album very much. Probably more than I was even before. Which is a bit interesting because as I listen through the album with my critic's hat on and pick at all the little things I can, I realize there's a number of little short comings on the album.
Objectively speaking, many of the songs Liam wrote himself are good, decent songs (Bold, Greedy Soul, I get By) but nothing outstanding or stellar. But that said, I really love these songs most because Liam really puts himself in his songs - they coudln't be anyone elses words. These songs are the ones I keep coming back to lately.
The ones he co-wrote are of course more polished in their songwriting but I find that Paper Crown, which used to be my definite favourite off the album, is the one that's gone down in ranking the most. It's still a lovely tender song with a great Liam vocal but maybe the fact that he didn't write any of it at all is affecting that? Right or wrong, that's just a thought. Ironically, Chinatown (the second he didn't write at all - which is surprising given some of the lyrics) is one that I'm enjoying most but its the atmosphere of the song that really makes it shine. Well produced I suppose.
The one that's grown on me the most is Universal Gleam. It was at first listen my definite least favourite - the only song that didn't do anything for me. Again, its not a terrific piece of music/writing. It is perhaps overly similar to Blur's Tender, it kind of plods on and doesn't really go anywhere even though it feels like it should. Yet I find that I really like the lyrics, I love Liam's vocal delivery on it, it's tremendous live and really carries momentum as a quasi-flag waver. "But I'm older now, going to show you how for real" The song feels like one of the most genuine moments on the album. It's also a lot of fun to play on the acoustic IMO.
My favourites would be:
I Never Wanna Be Like You (such a happy go lucky acoustic bounce with a creeping menacing edge, fav vocal)
I've all I Need (some cliched lyrics but also some very heart felt moments from Liam, great closer)
For what It's Worth (love the idea of a song apology from Liam, he delivers it very naturally)
Wall of Glass (terrific, the screeching harmonica and jagged guitars trademark this song very well)
Doesn't Have to Be that Way (while it does feel a little out of place, its a great sign of things to come)
Universal Gleam (as I've explained)
A criticism would be the production is a bit too beige and ordinary in parts. Some tracks are done perfectly, but some like Come Back to Me, sound so retro it's like revisiting DGSS (which I don't mind, but time to move on). It's a very different record from Noel's. While I love the songs on Liam's more, I really love the sound textures and atmosphere Noel achieves with his record.
But the thing is, I love every song off this album. Even with its imperfections, it's a great record and I'm really happy for the positive reception its got.

Just listened to Wall of Glass again for like the 91218401th time. My gosh, everything about it is just perfect, especially given the fact that it was the first single off of As You Were. The harmonica thundering in followed by the guitars and the pounding drums could turn the dead of night into bright and early in the morning and bring the fooking dead to life. There's so much energy and to top it off, Liam gives a great vocal performance and delivery of some pretty good lyrics over top a well-executed arrangement and song. That song is just the type of jolt every person needs in the morning.

Your man deserves everything he’s enjoying right now. He’s never gonna have the greatest songwriters of the world dying with envy but he has star quality and the common touch. I’d never have backed him to steal 2017 but he has. Round about the Supersonic premiere he looked like a man on his way down. Raggedy maw’fucker.

Definitely lowest point was around the Paris fashion show and the footy match in Italy.

Wall of Glass, Greedy Soul and For What It's Worth still getting decent airplay here in NZ. Haven't heard anything from WTBM at all on radio which is very strange. But hats off to Liam!

I have a massive “class” chip on me shoulder. No denying.
Liam having a word for Leon off Gogglebox was great for me.
Push on. Believe. And back Corbyn. We can find a better deal x

Listened to the album again and while the songs and production are really good, the flow is poor. Greedy Soul into Paper Crown doesn't work at all, nor does the three consecutive ballads from that point on. In case anyone missed it, the ONE TRUE TRACKLISTING:
1) Wall of Glass 2) Greedy Soul 3) Bold 4) For What it's Worth 5) I Get By 6) Paper Crown 7) Come Back to Me 8) You Better Run 9) It Doesn't Have to be This Way 10) Chinatown 11) All I Need

On what basis do you consider him a maniac politician? The fact that he made Dianne Abbott shadow Home Secretary sums the man up for me. Yeah that's a good reason to entirely write someone off. Most cabinets, in opposition and in government have the odd one that makes a mistake or two, the Chancellor had his figures even more wrong than Diane's. Her social voting record is very good and seems to generally have the best intentions at heart in spite of the odd gaffe. Hanging your dislike of Corbyn on Abbott is strange indeed.
