It's quite easy to criticize a band. Just look at Pitchfork! It's easy to attack Radiohead as pretentious, elitist, and snobbish art students, but it's equally easy to dismiss Oasis as mindless, pub-trashing hooligans. But to do either would be missing the strengths of both bands. Oasis is all about the rock 'n' roll, the huge choruses, the stadium singalong moments, while Radiohead is about social isolation and alienation, texture and detail, and evolving to incorporate a wide variety of genres. Each band has their own appeal.
One thing I will note, however, is that, despite that Oasis and Radiohead's fans seem to have a mutual hostility toward each other, I've seen far more respect for Radiohead among Oasis fans than respect for Oasis among Radiohead fans.

I take your point though it comes from a perceived notion that Oasis were purely about mass appeal and no thought, not helped by music critics including the NME whose editor told Oasis PR officer Johnny Hopkins privately in December 1997 that he had always hated Oasis because "They reminded him of the bullies at his school."- which says a lot to me about the shallow thinking behind such ideas.

Radiohead are a great band and I listen to them every now and then. OK Computer is a brilliant album but it's not as good as DM or MG, both those albums had a bigger impact than all of the Radiohead LPs put together. Oasis changed the musical landscape. Oasis spoke to the masses, ordinary people who love a good pop song. Radiohead spoke to and helped out the suicidal critics who wanted to become musicians but weren't good enough. Simple. www.spin.com/2015/03/radiohead-ok-computer-archive-library-of-congress/I love Definitely Maybe. It's one of the best debut records ever and encapsulates the sound of a lost youth generation and their desires to make it big. The rawness of the record is outstanding. Morning Glory is also very good, but there are tracks like Roll With It give it a dated tinge. One thing that struck me about OK Computer is how refreshing it is coming back to those tunes. You can't really put a date on songs like 'Lucky', 'Airbag', 'Paranoid Android', 'Let Down', etc. It's relevancy still is maintained today. I love DM and MG but OK Computer alone changed the music landscape and broke many barriers for different types of sound and what was possible at the time.

I love Radiohead, but if they aren't the most overrated band ever I don't know what is. Not everybody was in love with them, presuming this cost her a few quid so I doubt she's a major fan

I love Radiohead, but if they aren't the most overrated band ever I don't know what is. For me it's The Strokes. People still give a shit and they haven't delivered a quality album since 2003.

I love Oasis, I mean really really love them. However, anybody who thinks they came even close to the genius of The Beatles is mental.
