All four Beatlés sang lead vocals on all-time classic songs, no other band can say that. All four Beatlés had very successful solo careers, no other band can say that. Now, Oasis did have two of the best and most successful debut and sophomore albums, but the Beatles had longevity and never really dropped off, where Oasis did.... But, Oasis are relevant....just kidding. But it is all opinion.....opinions can't be wrong, unless you're wrong, so.... God bless. Queen! Every member of the band wrote at least one classic. In my opinion they are one of the few bands that really come close to the beatles. But very few people on here seem to like them. Finally somebody mentioned Queen on this forum.

Finally somebody mentioned Queen on this forum. They are underrated here. They made classics in different genres, were a fantastic live band with possibly the greatest frontmen of all time.

I would say that the Eagles have that as well with regard to the vocals, although I don't really like either the Beatles or them....

I'd only put artists like Dylan and Bowie, and maybe Springsteen and Costello - people like that, who've churned out countless great albums - up there with the Beatles. I always put Oasis at the level of bands like The Smiths; bands that came along, were great for a while, made some defining records, changed millions of lives, and then left. Unfortunately, they never mastered that last part, dragging it on way after it had run out of steam -- but that's probably a subject for another thread at another time.
So no, I don't think you can compare their output to the Beatles' - although, if Noel could have kept his 90s form going for a few more years, and Liam had been able to maintain those untouchable pipes, who knows what would've happened... - but that doesn't stop me loving Oasis considerably more. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love the Beatles. But how I feel sometimes when I listen to 90s Oasis, no band will ever get near that for me, I don't think.

I really don't understand how Oasis fans are saying they prefer Radiohead to Oasis.
I can't think of any Radiohead song that even comes close to how I feel when a track from Definitely Maybe is played. It was literally the soundtrack of my childhood, and being only 23 it still makes me feel like I can achieve anything, however bad anything can get.
Pass me a beer.

The Beatles are the best band ever, easily. Oasis are my favourite but the Beatles are the best.

Just to clarify, I don't prefer Radiohead over Oasis, or Oasis over Radiohead. They both bring me equal pleasure from their music.

My favorite bands probably include:
(no order)
Oasis The Verve Radiohead The Stone Roses U2 The Beatles Travis Gorillaz The Smiths Genesis
and duo/solo artists like:
Simon and Garfunkel Tears for Fears Phil Collins Noel Gallagher Richard Ashcroft Ian Brown Kendrick Lamar Nas etc.
I get just as excited for each of these people equally. Great music and great outputs from them at a certain point in time that get me interested in them. The Beatles is perhaps the greatest band ever to walk the planet, but doesn't mean I listen to Revolver more than Definitely Maybe.

I dunno, I'm still adamant that Radiohead are better than The Beatles. For some reason, it's like totally unreasonable to put any band over the Beatles. Why? I totally understand their historic influence etc, but IMO Radiohead are totally superior.

It's ok to prefer Radiohead but The Beatles at their sonic peak caused a ripple effect for generations to come. Two different generations, but I do see Radiohead as a modern day Beatles. Like matt said, you can't really compare the Beatles to anyone after their generation of artists. The generations that followed were very much inspired by their catalog.

The Beatles were revolutionary in the 60s in terms of sound and using different instruments that hadn't been used in pop before (much like Brian Wilson did with the Beach Boys around the same time)
They were one of the first bands to use the studio's almost endless possibilities, it's max. potential. Innovation was a keyword. They also incorporated many styles and genres in their songs and didn't compromise.
What seems so simple now, with everyone pretty much being able to be a top producer at home, was unique, new and revolutionary at the time. Their songs seem very simple now, but you have to see it in the context back then. No one used backwards stuff or looping, or changing pitches and different effects on instruments and all that stuff.
And that's just the music. I haven't even discussed the lyrics, their image etc. yet.
They're by far the most influential and best selling band (and most covered band) to have ever walked the planet and not for nowt. And if it wasn't for them, many bands wouldn't have existed or sounded the way they do, and that goes back even for bands such as Pink Floyd, so don't even get me started on Radiohead or Oasis.

The thing is, it really does matter that The Beatles did it first. Loads of people could make a song that sounds like Tomorrow Never Knows now, but to do it in 1966 is mind bending. They're firmly the greatest band ever IMO. I'd put Radiohead second and then Pink Floyd.

Back then it was completely different. I like Radiohead, but to be the new Beatles you need a bit more than a few funny pedals and effects. Plus Radiohead isn't for everyone. The Beatles were much more accessible, for a much broader audience. They had an immense cultural and musical impact. Once again, I love Radiohead, but I also think they're a tad overrated.

Maybe it's just me but I've never listened to Radiohead. I do know that they have a song called Creep. But what is their best album? Their best album is highly debatable because they're all very different and they've not make a bad one since their debut (Pablo Honey, incidentally the one with Creep on it). I'd advise you to start with what genres you prefer: The Bends - Britrock / Grunge / Pop Ok Computer - Artrock / Pop Kid A - Electronica / Ambience / Rock Ammesiac - Jazz / Electronica / Rock Hail to the Thief - Rock / Pop / Electronica In Rainbows - Rock / Pop The King of Limbs - Rhythm / IDM / Rock The King of Limbs and Ammesiac are probably the hardest to get into, while The Bends and In Rainbows are the most straightforward. Mean Mrs. Mustard , I agree Radiohead are nowhere near The Beatles. One of the things that makes The Beatles the greatest is that they're not just one of the handful of bands able to combine artistic innovation with brilliant pop melody / appeal - but that they're the best ever...AT BOTH. Simultaneously. That amazes me so much. It's incredibly rare to have a band capable of doing both at once but to concurrently be the best pop band ever and the most artistically innovative band ever is ridiculous. Radiohead can't dream of being as good as them in either, and neither can any other band. I do think Radiohead are in that highest tier with The Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc though - and I'd personally put them second, possibly joint with Floyd.
