Not even close. Nirvana by a landslide. Nirvana despite the fact that Kurt used an acoustic with a pickup on it and managed to achieve the worst acoustic guitar sound in the history of the instrument. Unlike Oasis (meaning Noel) Kurt put some real thought into his set list. Half the set was oddball covers. No other Unplugged by anyone had the balls to go where he went with his. It was almost as though he gave us an entirely new album to chew on. Extra kudos for digging in his heels and refusing to play Teen Spirit despite MTV putting pressure on him to do so.
Yup, poor, doomed Kurt showed himself to be an artist of the sort that Noel can only dream of being. Unfortunately for him (and us) Kurt could handle art like a total champ but he couldn't handle life.

Both are fairly dispensable IMO.

I'd still pick Oasis Unplugged album over Nirvanas any day even though it could have been much better. I can still hear the harmonica playing in my head and it annoys me to death and in this particular case i would have preferred Liams vocals (would have been more special with him doing the songs acoustic). About Nirvana. I never really got into them. I know they have a special place in history and i respect them for that but i feel they as musicians and songwriters (especially Kurt, horrible guitar player)are overrated. I don't mind them too much because i know alot of people think so about Oasis and that's okay. Best think about Nirvanas unplugged album is the setlist. As others have mentioned, they didn't play their biggest hits and made it into something special. Props for that, still not good enough for me.

That moment when you realize that Nirvana beat Oasis in a poll on an Oasis forum.

No contest. Nirvana. Oasis unplugged is average at best. Not sure any of the versions are the best they've been performed, and Noel got better as a singer since then.
Nirvana's song choices were interesting, and performance spectacular.

Like many of you, Oasis is my favorite band, and I very much enjoy their Unplugged performance, but Nirvana's Unplugged performance reaches an entirely different level, comparatively. Indeed, it is among the greatest live performances of the 90s.

Nirvana unplugged.
Oasis Unplugged is incredibly dated. The stylistic music choices just come off as cheesy, especially the use of harmonica (no offense to the guy playing it). But the Oasis Unplugged feels too shiny to be acoustic, for lack of a better term. Whereas the Nirvana unplugged is quite raw, and it's mostly only the band, though there are minimal uses of strings. I think even with Liam, the way those songs were arranged would come off as fairly cheesy and too grandiose for such an intimate setting.

Oasis getting properly crushed in this vote and that is perfectly fine.

Nirvana is the vote. That said, Nirvana Unplugged might be the most overrated live performance ever while Oasis Unplugged is generally very underrated because Liam went Liam on it.
And let's not forget, the most well known track from the Nirvana Unplugged features an electric guitar on it!

Gobsmacked at the result here.
Haven't properly listened to Nirvana in about 10 years.
Who the hell wants to be like Kurt Cobain?
Give me Oasis Unplugged any day - truly uplifting stuff from Noel. Pure and utter joy.
Laterz.

This poll was like asking whether The Beatles or Oasis were the better band; the answer is obvious, yet there will always be a few individuals who religiously hold that Hey Jude is a poor man's All Around the World. P.S. have you really returned and left without courting Beady’s Here Now? Did he leave you for Flatulence Panic?

Well, Nirvana covered Bowie, so that's gotta count for something.
If Oasis had done it properly, with Liam bothering to show up and take it seriously, proper arrangements, and a better setlist, there'd be no contest: 96 Oasis were ten times the band Nirvana were, in my opinion.

I do wonder what Liam sounded like on the full rehearsal TBH, considering he apparently sounded and looked like shit in previous rehearsals.
Id vote Nirvana, but im surprised at some people dismissing Oasis TBH. I loved the performance and thought Noel did a great job considering.

Be interested to hear what the good folks of Live4ever make of this. All things being equal - which was the better gig? That is, if Kurt didn't decided to turn his head into pencil (ie. fill it with lead) shortly afterwards, would the Nirvana Unplugged still be heralded in the same vein that it is now. Obviously, you can level the playing field for this question in a more morbid fashion... but feck that. Ah, so this is the infamous UGHF that Beady’s Here Now is always on about. Hello. Apparently i'm you or something. "I am he as you are he as you are me. And we are all together."? Dunno.

Nirvana's blew Oasis' unplugged outta the water in comparison. Just so stripped back, and really showcased their talent. Especially Cobain. If I could magically transport myself to any gig that has ever happened in the World, that'd definitely be in the top 2. It says a lot that 'The Man Who Sold the World', a David Bowie cover, is often perceived as being a better tune than the original. That says a lot. Aside from that, Oasis' is kinda remembered primarily for its antics, mainly Liam's heckling whilst curing a 'sore throat' with cigarettes and booze.
Despite that, there's something beautiful about the MTV Unplugged session of Oasis. There's just something so delightful in hearing a guy sing his own lyrics from his heart. Even doing his own backing vocals on 'Cast No Shadow' was a brave move, but Noel pulled it off. Good performance - just doesn't compare with Nirvana's. As much as I love Liam, it's cool that just when he probably thought that he had screwed them over, that the rest of the band went on without him and done a great job. To me, that showed that Noel was/is the brains of Oasis. No wonder Liam apparently tried to go on stage afterwards, and then sulked home. He could see that they were doing so well without him, I think. It's a pity that Liam never performed, as it would've been cool to hear his voice in its prime at that time being sung on stripped-back tunes.
Sounded great on that. I guess the aftermath boozing/drugs of Knebworth probably had an effect physically on Liam, though. On point however, obviously Nirvana wins. Amazing show. Simply amazing.

Nirvana win this pretty easily. It does get perhaps overrated but was actually one of the best MTV Unplugged's by some distance. Neil Young was another good one and struggling to think of who else.
Oasis Unplugged was at best OK and a salvage job -which it was -due to Liam. Agree with person above who mentioned some arrangements were a bit cheesey in Oasis Unplugged and lets face it Noel was no singer back then.
Nirvana's set was all over the place in a good way setlist wise and just very unusual for a band then who were still huge to pretty much just play lesser known stuff and covers and yet was very good. Their Meat Puppet section alone was great and have to give kudos to Nirvana giving them time.Certainly was first time i heard them. That was a cool thing about Nirvana - they actually did big up and help a lot of other bands & artists that might never have heard of otherwise.
Interestingly there was some Cobain handwritten provisional setlist for Nirvana's Unplugged which was quite different and included 'Old Age' (a then not heard Nirvana song) and 'Marigold' (a dave grohl song).
Bowie himself also liked their cover of Man Who Sold The World.
Its easily Nirvana that was better Unplugged.

Musically I'd say Oasis was light years ahead of Nirvana, but Kurt's vocals stole the show at unplugged, especially on Where did you sleep last night. Ya. Nirvana. Apart from possibly Alan White, Oasis are pretty musically inferior to their Nirvana counterparts. But who cares, Alice in Chains' set was better than both.

You mean. Noel unplugged ? Vs nirvana. Of course nirvana. Now if Liam was not being a idiot and showed up for work instead of showing up as a lager lout in the audience. To me it would have been. Oasis. Because I like there mere music better. But Noel singing all the tunes is just Noel and background musicians ......imagine if oasis were up there and Liam did Dlbia That would have been a moment in history. Instead it's another story how oasis had a shot to really make it huge and pissed it away. Why I love them. But also getpissedoff
