Fuck, I didn't even see that Van Conner passed away a few weeks ago. Bassist for The Screaming Trees.

Yes, those are his best live vocals. I think the fact he didn't have to play any instrument made it easier for him. Playing guitar/piano and singing at the same time is MUCH more difficult than just singing. It is his best live vocal and interestingly done so without playing an instrument. It sounds studio level of recording which is interesting as Noel records vocals separately. Do you find it more difficult singing and playing? It's an interesting observation and something I never considered before. Reading andymorris post, I guess it depends on poeple. But for me, yes, singing without a guitar in hands has always been easier. More control and power.

Watching this video made me feel validated and even more certain that this is easily Coldplay's best song, and one of the best of the 2000's.

For a truck-driver who thought he would only hit a crow, for the window that didn't mean to kill the starling.

Sam Smith is trying desperately to make himself seem interesting to cover up for the fact he releases the blandest music on the planet. Even Ed Sheeran would find it too beige. I don't know any of his songs but that James Bond song he did was absolute shite. That's more the producer's fault though, and their obsession for dreary themes of late.

From what songs I do know “dreary shite” is a good description of Sam’s music.

Master craftsmanship from Marr as always so delicate with Morrissey's yearning melody and lyrics. The Smiths never fail to amaze me. Given those descriptions, it's so easy to fall into the trap of being so twee and sentimental (see Belle & Sebastian) but The Smiths knock that on the head and make it sound so beautiful without ever coming close to that nonsense. Something really magical and mysterious in them that others who try to replicate it just don't get.

Sorry, not sorry (But more seriously, I don't link those two bands that much. Belle & Seb during their great era followed more the influences of Nick Drake's more baroque tunes, Love's Forever Changes and the VU ballads than The Smiths sound imo).

If you don't support new bands with radio time how are they supposed to get bigger?

I don't understand, did he get his job by saying that he will play new music and now he is not doing that? Does he advertise his show as show where you can hear a lot of new music?
Owner of radio station have him his show, it is his show now and he can play what he wants and it is our choise to choose if we wanna listen.
Where is the problem?

I like them in small doses but far too on the nose at times, far too sugary sweet that is never offset by any humour or wit. Murdoch's vocals can be a bit too fey too. I can hear a lot of lyrical similarities with The Smiths on many songs from If You're Feeling Sinister (an album I do really like) but it lacks the charisma and wit of Morrissey. Musically, there's no comparison though, Marr's compositions are genuine thing of beauty (nobody will ever match the riff of Some Girls, or the pulsing rock of Queen Is Dead) and I'd take a lesser Smiths song over any Belle & Sebastian any day. It's no criticism of Belle & Sebastian, I just think The Smiths are a lightning in a bottle moment over the course of a few years that could never be replicated. Perfection from start to finish.

This was an awesome interview. Damon is such a force it seems. Wish Noel would do a proper collaboration one day or just give us that demo of him, Noel and Graham rocking out to “We Got The Power”.

I thought I didn't know much about Burt Bacharach, but turns out he wrote this classic. As well as these two songs more known with different artists, but I think these are superior. The second one in particular is just pure perfection. The Stranglers’ version of Walk on By is a must!

They made some great songs in the 70s especially.
