I came here to post about this! It’s been a long time since their last album and the gig. And they’re coming to this side of ocean this Autumn! To me Boxer is still my most favourite album of theirs and I believe that High Violet was their peak, but I can’t resist Matt’s heavenly voice, can I? Matt’s voice is a registered weapon developed by cigarettes and wine. Does he smoke? Never knew it myself

I have spent about two weeks (re-)listening to Red Hot Chili Pepper's entire discography. AMA, I'm now an expert at your service. Can we at least agree Blood Sugar Sex Magîk is the best RHCP album? Happy new year. Oh god no. Californication has one mediocre song on it, BSSM has like four. It's not even close. Thanks.

What are the four? I’m not saying you’re wrong, it’s all opinion…..I prefer the older material, it could be my age. God bless.

Then there's a few that are alright, but doesn't do much at all for me. Apache Rose Peacock and dare I say Breaking The Girl. Always hated Kiedis's vocals in that one. Not even counting They're Red Hot. And hey Californication isn't exactly new, 24 years old this year.

I don’t like many whole albums after One Hot Minute, just songs here and there…I have their new album, haven’t listened to it yet. I personally love Breaking the Girl and Naked In the Rain. They’re Red Hot is probably my least favorite. Crazy that Soul to Squeeze was recorded during BSSM, but was given to Coneheáds, love that movie. Thanks.

If you think of BSSM as an album written about an awesome journey you went on with your three favorite allies (ha), They're Red Hot would be the song your friends jammed out to in the car. You had this whole dynamic and fun journey with all sorts of original, funky and fresh stuff going on, but you keep coming back to that one song, and the whole thing wouldn't be complete without it. I'm glad to see there's another Funky Monk on here because RHCP was the first band I ever loved (Oasis was 2nd). I agree with you that BSSM is their best album and Californication is a close second. BSSM was so impactful and influential to the emerging '90s alternative rock scene and the band's whole career. The tunes are there and without them, Cali wouldn't have happened. (Although, we'll forget the car commercial song, The Greeting Song, exists )

(Although, we'll forget the car commercial song, The Greeting Song, exists )BSSM is my in my personal top 10 albums ever…it holds a lot of personal meaning to me. It came out when I was still pretty young. It has all the great singles like ‘Under the Bridge’, ‘Give It Away’, and ‘Breaking the Girl’, of which I only really listened to…..in my later teens I revisited the album and realized how many great album tracks are on it. It was really my first lesson in fully consuming music….love that album. The RHCP need to do some reissues, surprised they haven’t, with alternate takes, demos, etc. like most bands their age have done. Thanks.

Lennon2217, what do you think of the new National song? I think it's OK. I hear the same vibe as Bloodbuzz Ohio. As I love the dark side of them, hopefully the new album will surprise us!

It is definitely one of the bands stronger lead singles. The guitars remind me of the band The War On Drugs which I view as a good thing. I'm always surprised when The National toy around with drum machines and programmed beats. They have an incredible drummer in Bryan Devendorf. Let that man cook please! Very excited for this album. Awesome guest list.

Which band is better? Chili Peppers or Green Day?
I ask because these were the two big American bands in the first half of the 2000s amongst school friends.

It's an inspiring little video from Johnny.
Learning definitely keeps him fresh and doing new things like soundtracks. He doesn't age either does he? Must be that curiosity and all that running he does.

If I should try to make an objective point(being an RHCP fan who only likes a few Green Day songs), then I would say that while Green Day maintained relevancy for about 15 years(which is in no way bad), it is remarkable that RHCP, 40 years into their carreer, are still capable of making good music. That's not why I think they're better, but it is something that sticks out to me.

If this song was released today, instead of 1997, people would be proclaiming the return of U2 and remarking at how it's the freshest the band has sounded in years. Like, seriously. The way this song is produced with the way those high-pitched vocals are processed and used as instrumentation, the strong bass & drums, Bono's delivery and the lyrics he delivers were all way ahead of their time.

Always dug this song off POP. The video version is slightly different than the one on the actual album however. They moved verses around and edited it for City of Angels film.

I actually really like that they did. It gives it more of an exciting ending and the bridge having the instruments drop out adds some suspense to fuel that ending. To me, Pop is about perfect from top to bottom. I know Miami and TPBM get panned, but Miami is such a neat experiment that's so intentionally, insanely ironic and sleazy. Live version smacked too. TPBM has a cool sound and nice build-up with lyrics that nail the point of Pop to a "T' I do wish they would've relegated Miami and TPBM to ensure the album flowed better and was shorter but also I feel like the album wouldn't be the same without them.

RIP David Crosby. All the baby boomers are leaving us. I think he pioneered the folk rock genre. CSNY knew what they were doing

One of the most gorgeous melodies I know. Simon & Garfunkel's music will forever remain timeless. Had the thought of making a post like this a few days ago after having listened to Sparrow, which is another of their lesser known* songs. Paul Simon was a genius. (Ok so apparently April Come She Will is their seventh most listened song on Spotify, but my point still stands!)
