Eminem has some very good output, to be fair. Beastie Boys are technically rap, and brilliant. Kany West is a dick, I don't get his hype. First class moron, him. It's not really my cup o' tea, but to the fans it's their "Oasis", and as long as it hold value to someone else (as long as it's not a harmful influence) then who really cares? It's funny you bring up Kanye, Cheeks. Is he an arrogant, opinionated loudmouth? Sure, but weren't Noel and Liam at the height of Britpop? (And still are, to an extent?) I see a lot of Oasis in Kanye in that respect... plus the fact that they put their money where their mouths are by releasing fantastic music. Kanye is an incredible producer and has talent by the boatloads—hate on his personality all you want, but don't take that away from him.

Has Kanye West ever created a song that wasn't either overly autotuned and had horrible instrumentation that sounds so computer like or that sampled the fuck out of a well known song?

Like all genres, there is good and bad - you have to know where to look. If you didn't grow up with it, you won't have nostalgia associated with a time you heard something so different from everything else, something your parents didn't understand and the mainstream wouldn't touch. That said, 2015 had some of my favorite hip-hop albums in a time when few artists of any style make great albums.
Daye Jack's Soul Glitch:
BadBadNotGood and GFK's Sour Soul:
L'Orange & Kool Keith's Time...Astonishing!:
Semi Hendrix' Breakfast at Banksy's:
Frank Nitt's Frankie Rothstein:
Golden Rules' Golden Ticket:
Run The Jewels' RTJ2
Of course, all of these are my taste and may not do anything for anyone else on the forum.

Don't mind Eminem.
Heard "Skepta - Shutdown" and it think it's ok.
Can't stand Kanye, at all.
Controversial one given Noel's diatribe on them but I actually quite like some of Sleaford Mods early stuff.
But overall yeah, I agree with OP it's just the wrong message for me in music.
I want my music to make me feel better and a positive message like you can get out of a rut if you're in one, you can have a better life etc if possible. Oasis does that perfectly. Kids need this kinda music now, we don't seem to have any of it around at the moment.

I'll try and sum this up about Mr. West - he's was a very good hip hop artist in his early days, but got the ego trip rolling in the last few years. He's the Coldplay of hip-hop. Yeezus was his Ghost Stories. There's probably 2 songs on there that I think are alright (Black Skinhead, Hold My Liquor) but the rest is very forgettable and Self Parody. Alot of people trying to say it's ambitious (and it is) but it was too much of a departure to his original sound. The College Dropout is still one of better hip hop albums to come out in recent memory and I can't deny that. As a person/celeb: yeah he's a ego-driven jerk - as an artist, I can respect some of his work and producing. His new album is out next month and Facts was another bucket into the Self Parody bucket, but the Real Friends and No More Parties in LA track with Kendrick sound like old Kanye and making proper hip hop again, so there's promise.

I actually really like Eminem's 2002 album "The Eminem Show."
Been spinning it frequently at the moment - including right now. When Eminem is on point and is serious, he is a top artist. I just hate his immature output which really devalues him.
But yeah, Eminem Show, top album.
Square Dance is my jam.

I know a lot of people with this perspective on Kanye. His fans do have a divide in some respects. A lot of traditional hip-hop heads, such as people who like j. cole, jay-z, pac, etc prefer the High School Trilogy, specifically the Chicago-tinged soul flavors of first two. I love all three of those records. They have a distinct young Ye feel to them that's was a real breathe of to the hip hop sound at the time, cause in the early 00's crunk and watered down gangsta rap ruled. Kanye killed that shit. I think after that he just got bored with traditional rapping/hip hop at some point in the mid-late 00's. Hell you can kinda hear it the beginning of Graduation, and as referenced again in his new single No More Parties In LA with the line "I was uninspired since Lauryn Hill retired". He has always been a producer at heart, so its been a thrilling journey to see him develop his skills and identity as an artist. His work has been more hit and miss, but its always interesting. 808 is definitely my least favorite Kanye record, but it basically shaped modern r&b. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is literally a maximalism masterpiece that could only be created by someone who is as creative and narcissistic as Kanye. Yeezus isn't really meant to be an album you can listen to on the reg. It's kinda an exercise in time, mood, and production. I wouldn't want another, but its an interesting record to have in his catalog. Ye as a public persona, I honestly feel like if you have to explain him, you're kinda missing the point, but I'll say something really quick. The Bound 2 video is literally him trolling the mainstream media (aka white middle corporate america), that's his whole deal. He definitely trolls fame to a degree, as people take him way way too seriously. When he says shit like he did today when he released the tracklist to his new record he tweeted out "so happy to be done with the greatest album of all time" and people get upset over that shit? Its actually pretty funny to me. Its cool to me that he has that confidence, and although it definitely probably won't be the best album of all time its no different than what Oasis were saying in 1996.

I definitely agree there's a double standard. Noel did the same thing boasting about being the best band in the world, better than the Beatles, etc. and alot of people couldn't stand that pride he carried. No different than Kanye. Like I said in my OP, their music may not suit you but just because you don't like it, doesn't mean the genre itself sucks. The guy is a really good hip hop producer - whether you like it or not that's were his talent has lied in the past several years over his songwriting capabilities. Yeezus has some interesting production on it but I don't care to rate it because he had less than a dozen songwriters on the majority of songs. This new record is 10 tracks and seems like it's going to be more focused and less extravagant. Will be interesting for sure. I noticed that Facts isn't on there.

I like a few tunes here and there, but I find a lot of it quite unsettling tbh. I guess that's the point of some of it, but I don't see the need to be so homophobic and hateful as some of them seem to be. And the attitudes to women of some of them, I think, are quite dangerous. Having said all that, I do have a soft spot for Snoop Dogg. Doggystyle is a genuinely great record.

Come on, I don't think there is ever an intention to tell listeners to go out and shoot 'a motherfuckin pig' or whatever. You have to realise most of these rappers are basing their lyrics on their own upbringing in neighbourhood gangs, so it's meant to be a reflection on that lifestyle and there have been many great albums as a result. Rap? Some of it is fine, but it's not for me - I've never grown up in a culture that has a penchant for rap (who the fuck has ever heard of a Scottish rapper?). So just as I've never had that upbringing, I don't expect Eminem or Kanye West to suddenly start making an album inspired by the Highland Fling. Though I detest the material culture of what many rappers become - the big medallions, the limousines, the white mansions and the "ho's" in the music video surrounding them, showing off their garish lifestyle. It's the one form of music that is most obsessed with materialism. It's disgusting. Once a rapper becomes rich, he seems to have absolutely nothing of importance to say - only a select few are inspired and rebel against the socio-economic problems that still exist in urban parts of America (like Kendrick Lamar for example). I admire that, but the majority of them turn into c*nts basically.
