You can start chronologically, since the beginnings of Lennon & Macca's solo careers are both great. It went pear-shaped in the mid-70's due to a fading inspiration coupled with the tacky sounds of the synthesizer... Lennon: "Plastic Ono Band" & "Imagine" are essential. "Mind games", "Walls & bridges" are very good albums, a bit uneven but they contain great songs. McCartney: "Ram" & "Band on the run" are essential; "McCartney" is really DIY, you like it or you don't but it has its charms; "Red rose speedway" is classic Macca without the extra sparkle. From "Venus & Mars" onwards tread at your own peril... Thanks! And George and Ringo? God I love this song! I always play it several times when I get to the end of "Ram"; if you miss the second side of "Abbey Road" that's as close as it gets.  As for Harrison, "All things must pass" is an absolute masterpiece (it's my favourite album ever, actually), George let loose all the songs he had stacked for several years that he couldn't place on Beatles albums, with classy production from Phil Spector that suits them perfectly, the result of this perfect combination is sheer beauty! I would advise, if possible, against the 2001 30th anniversary reissue, which was not only remastered but also -sadly- remixed. For this reason I stick to my old 1990 CD pressing with the original mix which sounds much better. ("All things must pass" has been reissued again in 2014, I don't know which mix they used.) Apart from "Brainwashed" which I love, I haven't really listened to his other albums though, only gave them a couple of spins (no particular reason for that, I've just been busy listening to a lot of music). They're not as good as "All things must pass" but George could regularly drop a catchy pop song, such as "You" on "Extra texture": completely daft but irresistible. Finally, I've only listened to Ringo Starr's 1973 "Ringo", which casts an impressive array of A-list musicians: John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul & Linda McCartney, Billy Preston, Harry Nilsson, Klaus Voorman, Nicky Hopkins, Marc Bolan, Steve Cropper, Bobby Keys, Jack Nitzsche, Milt Holland, Tom Scott, Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Rick Danko & Garth Hudson (from The Band), Merry Clayton & Martha Reeves all play or sing on it! That being said, this album didn't strike me as a masterpiece, though it's pleasant. I intend to listen to 1992's "Time takes time", I heard a few tracks from this record that sound great! |

Though for Lennon, I'd sub out Walls and Bridges and put Double Fantasy instead. Come on, "Walls & bridges" contains great songs: "Steel & glass", "#9 dream", & of course the splendid "Nobody loves you when you're down & out" to name but a few! I really like this album anyway, didn't expect much at first from this 1974 release recorded during Lennon's lost weekend, but it grew on me with each listen. "Double fantasy", however, suffers from a tacky 1980 production & most of all from every other song on it being by Yoko Ono, which completely disrupts it. A shame because Lennon's songs are not bad. |

I find strange how people suddenly stop liking Beady Eye on this forum, every time Liam releases a new song the threads are filled with negative comments towards Beady Eye even from users who used to like the band.
Of course everyone is entiled to his opinion, and I wouldn't even consider myself a Beady Eye fan, but I listened their 2 albums (and b sides) today for the first time in months and there are really good songs, so I don't understand how the band has turned into some kind of joke on this forum.

It seems people have short memories... I'd argue it has more to with "recency bias". New things are always better (or worse) than they really are. Over time they lose their luster. and you can see them as they really are better from the distance. Beady Eye are not the worst band ever, but their tunes haven't held up over time all that well. And looking back now... they were simply missing something. |

If Inwould get a penny for every fucking time the "lack of chorus" thing comes up.... I would have around 6 pennies. Not every song needs a chorus and in Soul Love is one and its a good one in my opinion. I don't need a cty out loud and put every emition in that one fucking piece of a song while a invisible hairblower dries your sweaty chesthair and makes you look like leonardo dicaprio on the titanic while he painted mona lisa epic gets millions jumping chorus. I don't really think it's that every song necessarily needs to have a chorus, but more that a lot of Beady Eye songs don't really go anywhere or have bits where you'd expect a chorus and...nothing happens. They need something to lift it up a bit. Can you please take off that Beady Eye t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up. Thanks. |

It's been 3 years since their split, yet it feels like longer. I'm glad that I saw them 3 times. Shame that I didn't buy any single except The Roller, but I'm still pleased to get the German Rolling Stone with The Roller vinyl with their autographs etched. |

Gave a new spin to DGSS since the release of Liam's new tunes, and it sounds marvellous. Way more heart, soul and... why were people complaining for again ? A few tracklisting changes and you got a very good LP. I tried to listen to it a couple weeks back... got bored by track 5 and had to stop it. I'm not sure what "heart and soul" you found on that record. It sounds like a band going thru the motions of making a record because that's all they know how to do. Full disclosure, I was a massive fan of it upon release, but it has aged worse than a bologna sandwich with mayonnaise. Too many tracks. Too many of which fall under the "meh" category. I recon they really only had about 5 or 6 quality tunes, but decided to drop 13 tracks on the record. They were cleaning out the back-catalogue with this album and it showed. Most tracks are stale. Just my opinion of course. |

Just my opinion of course. Four Letter word is pretty good Also i find Morning Son to be a touching song, as well as for Anyone and World Outside My Room. Never understood the hate for the Beat Goes on as well, although it is way too long. As i said, i revisited the tracklist FLW Millionaire The Roller Bring the Light For Anyone Wigwam World Outside My Room Man of Misery The beat goes on Morning Son Not the best record ever, but some good tunes. And it sounds pretty good on quality headphones. |
