What does "as a musician" mean though? No doubt he's more "technically proficient" than Noel on a guitar but does it matter? Any good jazz or classical guitarist can smoke any famous rock guitarist when it comes to technical ability, but so what? That's not what it's about. As a writer an arranger, Noel is/was leagues above Bell. That's musicianship. This. Andy is a musician, Noel is a creator. Two different kind of people but one is very common, the other is few in a generation. Andy's material can never match Noel's. But he's a huge bass player. As a guitarist i dont see much differences. see i think andy is the more creative of the two, he has such a broad back catalogue and has experimented with more genres then noel. noel has written more truly great songs, but i think andy bell is more of a consistent creative force

Noel is not good at experimenting though, but he doesnt need to.

Great read. Ironic its in The Guardian though, sadly that doesn't fit their hipster narrative that the band are just for window licking knuckle dragging homophobes.

On this day back in 1997 Noel and Liam turned up on Radio One's evening session and who can forget that interview. I haven't listened to it in years.

why does andy bell get some much hate (not hate but dismissed so much) on this forum he’s honestly the most talented musician oasis had and he’s a properly nice bloke, lots of people seem not fussed if he’s part of the reunion but i don’t think it would be the same without him there All I’d add is both Andy and Gem were great for the band. I think it’s pointless comparing 1993-1998 to post 2000. It was just different and there were still some great moments. Gem in particular did a fantastic job in very difficult circumstances to keep the show on the road when Noel left the tour in May 2000 following the fight with Liam in Barcelona. Gem learnt all Noel’s parts and helped replacement Matt Deighton. If they flew back to the UK without completing the rest of the European tour I’d guess the band would have been over. Andy’s enthusiasm to join the band and learn the bass was brilliant, he was excited to be in the band like us fans. He always spoke of being a fan too. I’d have loved to have seen Andy get more involved in acoustic sets and promotion etc but When Andy first joined the band in 1999 he was still living in Sweden and didn’t move back until around 2006. I think this is why he wasn’t involved in much of the promotion for SOTSOG and Heathen chemistry. He wasn’t in the electronic press kit video for heathen chemistry. Shame really as I enjoy listening to his interviews.

Another interesting article about how diverse the Oasis fanbase is: www.nme.com/features/music-features/oasis-indonesia-moleklane-aldi-taher-indra7-pestolaer-dmasiv-3805728Been wondering about this as I've been periodically checking their overall Spotify plays since the reunion was announced. At the moment they have nearly one million listeners in Jakarta! 949,608 to be exact which is slightly over 200,000 more than London in second place (745,907 for the fellow trainspotters). Not sure if I'm shocked more by these numbers or by the NME actually doing some investigative journalism.

I will read the article but if I'm not mistaken in third and fourth we have São Paulo and Buenos Aires. This didn't change with the reunion, if I'm not mistaken, those were the numbers previously to the announcement in August. I've had already read about this obsession Indonesians seem to have with things they like (as individuals, not necessarily the whole nation, you know what I mean) and it does seem to be even more extreme than Brazilians and Argentinians, which is... quite something. and I say that as a Brazilian myself

But on the subject of diverse fanbase, my first memories with Oasis are definitely linked to the soundtrack of Brazilian soap operas! For record labels that used to be THE way to make a single to explode in Brazil: play it on the radio and put it on a soap opera soundtrack. And so many Brazilians will tell you the same. Others will say that it was seeing them on MTV, but MTV signal wouldn't reach my city. I only got truly into Oasis later on though

Everytime I hear on the radio the first chords of this Tipsy song (I have no idea of the name of the singer) I think it's Wonderwall and feel like a total fool afterwards... Decided to google it and I'm kinda relieved I am not the only one who thought the same..

That video of the rehearsals before the big summer gigs of '96 that was played during The Swamp Song at Knebworth. Is there a good copy of that? You can see the video in the bootleg video of Knebworth

I see that Oasis have six sets of the full Oasis album catalogue on vinyl to give away. I won't be entering though as I already have all of their albums on vinyl which are the original pressings from before anyway.

Priming to sell us future stuff I bet. Reissue familiar to millions!!!

I wonder how the two of them feel about being completely ignored in all things Oasis since the split too. Then the reunion has come up and it's oh by the way you're needed again lads. What? Andy was part of Beady Eye, Gem a big part of NGHFB. When the story is being told on Supersonic etc and they only focus on 94-96. It's been a theme of so much since when they talk about the band. It's like that era doesn't exist after. I didn't mean they've been left out of the bands that come since or anything 😊

There was an email sent out where you could complete a survey to enter the giveaway I never received the email. And, as for the vinyl version of Familiar To Millions I have the original so I wouldn't buy a reissue if they released one.

Anyone here listened to the new Dolby Atmos mix of Familiar to Millions? It's all over the place... Especially Noel often sounds like he is singing without his teeth.

Received an email for entering the competition to win 6 sets album in vinyl, but don't know if I'll try. In fact, I have too many copies of DM vinyl, a couple of MG and BHN vinyls and Japan only coloured vinyls of DM, MG, BHN and TMP. I have no idea where I'll have to store them.
