Two songs which are remarkably similar, in their riffs, solos, Noel vocals, fact that they almost made their parent albums, and the fact that they were released as track 2 of the last single from their parent albums! And both are quite divisive among Oasis fans!! So which of these two b-sides do you prefer? Personally, I prefer The Fame. Its bombastic display of arrogance with a touch of melancholy will always trump the euphoric Step Out in my book, though both songs are extremely underrated among Oasis fans. But what do you think? P.S. for whatever reason I've never minded that Step Out's chorus was stolen from Stevie Wonder, even though that is probably the most blatant instance of plagiarism in the Oasis canon.

I've only listened about 3 times to The Fame and can't remember what it goes like so I imagine I didn't really like it. Step Out is just a copy of Uptight so I'm not too keen on that one either.

I like them both but Step Out wins it by a nose.

Both pretty naff, but Step Out edges it.

Step Out by an absolute landslide. The Fame couldn't be any more throw away if it tried and is easily amongst one of Noel's worst ever songs. A real awful effort.
Step Out however is great and would have easily found a place on The Masterplan had I chosen it. There's a reason why it was a fraction away from landing on (What's The Story) Morning Glory?

The euphoria of the chorus of The Fame puts it over the top for me. Otherwise not the best songs and very similar

Step Out.
I especially love the FTM version that brings out what is great about this song, and that is the fact that it's an absolute onslaught of excitement and happiness in the verses, then blooms into a really cool chorus that is filled with euphoria and wonder.

When they put the promo cassette out, Stevie Wonder's camp demanded cowriting credits due to the song's similarity to 'Uptight (Everything's Alright)'. Therefore to avoid losing money, they removed it from the album and put it as the b-side to Don't Look Back In Anger instead, where it would sell fewer copies and Oasis would therefore have to pay fewer royalties. As far as I'm aware, nothing replaced it on the album. Maybe Bonehead's Bank Holiday was used to fill the extra song on the vinyl version or maybe that was already going to be used.

Yeah spot on. Step Out is a pretty good little pop song, but it might have been redundant to put it on WTSMG considering Roll With It is on there. Both are pretty nonsensical pop-rock tunes that aren't quite great, but their good pop songs that have some absolutely great moments. Definitely owes a lot to Wonder's hit, but its a pretty solid tune. One that they probably should have played live more. The Fame is pretty eh. Its a portrait of the huge ego of the band during BHN. When I'm drunk its pretty fun and its got an attitude to it, but its just not that great of a song. Its got the bland dad rock melody of HC's material but its combined with the worst cocaine fueled characteristics of BHN.

It's not even close. Step Out by a mile. Shouldve been on WTSMG. Best Noel non acoustic bside.

Step Out is the better song, although I hate the "Think you're gonna cry" lyric. It's cringe. But other than that, top song.
Still went with The Fame as it gets, just like Magic Pie, wayyyyy too much hate on here.

I went and had a listen to them both. First time I had listened to The Fame in about 10 years and it could be another 10 before I listen to it again, its dire. The gulf between it and Step Out is massive.

I can't remember what The Fame tune sounds like. All I remember was I didn't like it much.
Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I thought that aside from Going Nowhere, the b-sides of Be Here Now was the alarm signal suggesting the decline in Noel's songwriting.

I did go back and listened to it when I said that recently though, but I already forgot what it sounds like again.

The Fame by a mile
Step Out is too much of a rip-off even by Noel's standards

The Fame is so underrated! That chorus is MEGA. It should of been on BHN. I don't get that hate on it. The lyrics aren't bad. It's just Noel's take on fame. Lol. Love the sound and the guitars. Sounds huge. The last chorus could go on forever to me.

And he wrote Going Nowhere in 1990 or something like that.
