Am I the only one who thinks Heathen Chemistry is one of their best albums? I'm not going to say it's better than DM or WTSMG because I don't think anything they ever do will match those records, but I think HC is a great great album. I think it's better than Be Here Now, definitely better than SOTSOG, and I liked it a hell of alot more than DBTT. Let me run down the songs from HC that I think were up their with the other Oasis classics...
1. Little By Little- It's catchy, a little psychedelic, and Noel aboslutely NAILED the chorus.
2. Stop Crying Your Heart Out- I really think it's up there with DLBIA and Wonderwall. I gotta hand it to Liam on this one, his voice was amazing.
3. The Hindu Times- Definitely not my favorite song off this album but you can't deny it's a great song. "I get up when I'm down/I can't swim but my soul won't drown/I do believe I got flare/I got speed and I walk on air" ...I mean come on those are great lyrics.
4. A Quick Peep- It sounds like an upbeat Pink Floyd song and they absolutely nailed it. Probably my second favorite Oasis instrumental.
5. Probably All In the Mind- Liam's voice is really raspy in this song but for some reason it just fits perfectly IMO. I think this is a song alot like those uptempo rockers from that 94-95 period like It's Good To Be Free and Listen Up which who doesn't love?
6. The Cage- The best song on this album IMO doesn't even have lyrics. This is the not only my favorite Oasis instrumental, but I think it's one of my favorite all time instrumentals. I really think The Cage was Noel's attempt to make a song that could've fit on The Wall. I remember reading somewhere Noel said The Wall was his favorite album of all time, well this song is dripping with Pink Floyd. One of the best they've ever done.
7. Born On A Different Cloud- Another great psychedelic song if you ask me. I also think Liam wrote great lyrics to this one.
8. Hung In A Bad Place- Reminds me of early Oasis with the heavy guitars and prob Gem's best song.
Those 8 songs are just the ones I think are up there with Oasis' earlier stuff that everyone loves and wishes they could do again...well I think they did that with this album so I just can't understand why it's widely considered to be nothing more than mediocre?
Anyway I'm curious if anyone else is as high on this album as I am...

I think HC is underrated. The first 6 tracks are great, and I think (Probably) All In The Mind and She Is Love get an unfair amount of stick really, they are both good tunes.
I can't agree on A Quick Peep though, I mean it's alright as a tune but it is entirely pointless on the album and is just there as filler and so Andy got a songwriting credit and royalties, IMO.
BOADC is a great tune and Better Man is alright (nowt that amazing though). I wish they'd made a full song (as in not just a couple of verses and one chorus) out of Idler's Dream and put that on the end. Would've been amazing.

Three standouts:
Stop Crying Your Heart Out (the best thing on it) Hindu Times Little By Little
Two pretty good:
Hung In A Bad Place Songbird
The rest filler.

It's a good album, but not one of their best albums to me.

I love Hindu Times: one of their best tunes, underestimated I think. Then SCYHO, LBL, Songbird, BOADC.

No one likes The Cage or A Quick Peep?? I LOVE Quick Peep!!!!! TYFTGT is better though. If they wanted one from Andy on the record why stick that one on a b-side? Side note: I think DBTT has proven Andy is a killer songwriter!

if it was their third album it would be thought of as not far short of classic.

Andy proved that long ago with Ride and Hurricane #1. I do think it helped him cement his place in Oasis though. I really look forward to seeing Andy's next contributions.

Soul-less, formulaic, with terrible production. By a long, long way their worst album IMO. It sounds like something Shed 7 might've recorded.

I think this album really shines during live performances. Finsbury park was just awesome. Better Man live is way better than the studio version. I think the same can be said for all the other tracks. Maybe the album production could have been better. I also prefer the Hindu Times demo to the released version.

the timing was off. had it been released 5 years earlier it would have measured a few steps up on almost everyone's radar. like most will attest, the first six tunes are not terribly better or worse than any of the first six off their remaining albums. The last 5 are hit or miss depending on your taste. Overall, it's still superior to a large sum of anything else within its genre released within a year of it. it's largest shortcoming likely has to do with it being recorded by a band called Oasis.
